I was at Hertz renting a Tahoe the other day and they had a flyer for a Boxter for something like $180/day. I lit up, "Dude, I could get this thing and take it to Streets of Willow with the POC!" Guy behind the counter says, "We know people do it. They do it all the time." steve

Yes! The Duel. Strangest hour and a half I have ever subjected myself to (several times). Just got a really clean copy of 'C'est etait un Rendezvous'. Watched it numerous times and while great, there are some 'issues' I have with it........ steve

  6. Nissan's Chief Ghosn to Steer Operations in North America The Wall Street Journal 03/24/2004 Authors: Arran Scott and Norihiko Shirouzu (Copyright © 2004, Dow Jones & Company, Inc.) TOKYO -- Nissan Motor Co. said Chief Executive Carlos Ghosn will take direct charge of its North American operations to guide the Japanese auto maker in a crucial market amid disappointing early sales of some key new models. Nissan's comeback in the U.S. market continues, with overall vehicle sales -- including its Infiniti G35 sedan and coupe, Murano crossover sport-utility vehicle and Maxima and Altima sedans -- rising 26% from a year earlier in January, 46% in February, and an estimated 35% this month. But the move, announced yesterday in Tokyo, also comes at a time when Nissan is wrestling to correct marketing errors on the edgy Quest minivan and the full-size Armada SUV, two new models critical to the success of massive investments Nissan has made on a big new assembly plant in Mississippi. One of the biggest challenges Mr. Ghosn faces as he takes direct responsibility for North America is "to make sure the company delivers on the investment put into the business," said Simon Sproule, vice president of corporate communications for the auto maker's American sales unit. Nissan's business in the U.S., relative to operations in Europe and Japan, has been "the weakest and needed the most investment, so he is focused on paying the first attention" to operations that are key to Nissan's future, he said. The Brazilian-born Mr. Ghosn, who engineered Nissan's huge comeback from its brush with bankruptcy in the late 1990s, will keep his position as CEO and remain at Nissan headquarters in Tokyo. But he will cede responsibility for Nissan's Japan and China operations as part of a sweeping management shuffle effective April 1. Mr. Ghosn, who has come to the U.S. once every quarter, now will attend every monthly top management meeting for Nissan's North American operations, Nissan officials said. Executive Vice President Norio Matsumura, who leads the North American business, will take over as head of Japan operations. That move could bolster Mr. Matsumura's chances of becoming Nissan's chief operating officer next year, when Mr. Ghosn becomes CEO of France's Renault SA, which owns a 44.4% stake in Nissan, while remaining CEO of Nissan. Nissan will make an announcement regarding the post of chief operating officer by March 2005. Mr. Ghosn will hand over management of Nissan's China operations to Senior Vice President Toshiyuki Shiga, who will continue to oversee markets outside Japan, North America and Europe. Nissan said the management changes were aimed at preparing the company for the launch of its next three-year growth plan, which it will unveil April 26. Among the challenges Nissan North America faces is jump-starting sales of its Quest minivan, which competes against vehicles such as DaimlerChrysler AG's Dodge Caravan, Honda Motor Co.'s Odyssey and the Toyota Motor Corp.'s Sienna. Since the Quest went on sale last July, sales have averaged about 3,700 vehicles a month, far short of the 6,700 vehicles the company was aiming to sell. Jed Connelly, a senior sales and marketing executive at Nissan's North American sales unit, said the company was "too bullish" for the Quest in a highly competitive segment. Nissan executives said the company also underestimated demand for the top-of-the-line trim of the minivan and demand for expensive optional features such as the big "skyview" sunroof and the rear-seat DVD entertainment system. To cope, Nissan last month began offering both skyview sunroof and DVD features in a wider range of Quest models, company executives said. The Nissan Armada SUV, a big truck built to rival Detroit models like the Chevrolet Tahoe, also is underperforming expectations. Mr. Connelly said the Armada, launched last September, is selling at a pace of about 2,800 vehicles a month. Nissan has to sell 3,400 vehicles a month to achieve its goal of selling 40,000 vehicles a year. Mr. Connelly attributes the Armada's problem in part to intense competition in the U.S. full-size SUV segment. Just got a new one today...there is a nice whited-out 240 on the front with these funky Pana/Mini-looking wheels. Inside the front cover they are selling 'Racer-style 8-spoke alloy wheels'. 15X6 is the only size and $219 each or 750 a set. Who makes these things? You would think they could at least get 'Z' center caps! Also, when you check the credits, it says "Front cover photo 'altered from original photo'", so they added the wheels! I haven't shopped for Pana's for a while so don't know how they compare in price. steve

Stephen, I'm guessing you paid at the door and/or arrived very near the close of registration. that side street is always the last to fill up, and I agree, that is a different crowd over there! Some of the 510's are incredible, but the Z's over there are usually the most decrepid varieties around! You need to arrive early (before 7) and/or come with a club. stephen

When you have your rears off, put some around the hub where the drum slides on. Required torque for lug nuts is RFT. steve

Actually, I know this car and those are the good ones. I know they look almost exactly like the Basset/Circle/Diamond Neckcar wheels, they are the AL ones. Center? The name is very common but I am having a senior moment. Look in the back of GRM or Sports Car. They take forever to order. steve

  20. If you are getting a refund check anywhere near that big, you need to get a new accountant IMMEDIATELY. What a pretty car. I looked at it pretty hard back when I was shopping. Now I have pretty close to that in my project and it barely rolls! Definitely cheaper to buy them done. steve

Me thinks a WCZR decal would look pretty good on that. Craig, I'm your bestus buddy in the whole wide world, REMEMBER? steve
  22. Probably have to go to a smaller filter, as the one I use is about an inch from the inner fender. No biggie. Who needs a big filter when you have a big pan. I'll just go back to the 1515. There is no way I am attending anything! Ihave been racing so much my wife is really tapping her foot. I be staying home. steve
  23. Thanks Keith... I wonder if there is an adapter plate the filter screws into. Just basically a spacer with a couple ports in it. I am not putting in an oil cooler right now. Just the big pan and Giant filter for now. Maybe I will just put the warning light sender in the other port in the pan--the one for the turbo drain. Not ideal, but..... Interesting: I bought a infared digital pyrometer because I was having some tire issues last month. Last weekend at WS I was pointing that thing at EVERYTHING. It was so fun! Braked disks, drums, radiator tank, and oil pan. If I recall correctly, highest temp I saw at the pan was 237. What a fun toy. steve

It's coming...It's coming! The carbs are on the new motor now....along with the header and the externally adjustable Comp oil pump and new starter and new alternator and also the tranny and the new Comp LSD and the frame rails are gussetted and the radiator is in and brakes are in with new R4's and bled full of 4, and floor areas are cut out and metal is sitting here ready to be welded in and door guts are out and new ATL is in (haven't built firewall yet) suspension and bushings have been done for some time, and sitting here on the shelf are a Holley Blue, two HPG-1's, all my switches and guages and warning lights and my new 6AL and my Jones tach and my Sparco seat and my roll cage and my 5" Supertrapp and my Unilite and my ITG and...oh, I think that's all. I like to shop a bit ahead of myself! Motor is pretty mild, about 10.5:1 and a 270/460, fully ported head, oversize valves and springs, .40 over, new flattops, all balanced, lightened flywheel. metal shop called today and the sheet of AL for my dash has been broke (breaked). Need to get the cage in and finish welding on the interior so I can wire this puppy. Then Vroom Vroom. Until then, just been thrashing my street car down at Willow Springs. Something GOTTA let go on that poor thing soon. I can't even remember how many times I visited 7000 on that thing this past weekend. steve
  25. No remote filter, just a 7" filter in the standard location. >>>I'd run it off the adapter plate on the block, before the oil gets to back to the pan<<< Is there any other port? Other than an adaptor plate/remote? steve
