Pretty easy to test 'em...put it in a pan of water on the stove with a meat thermometer. Watch till it opens. I will see you in Fremont tomorrow, no? Do you have a car in the show? I will be there--proudly representing 'Modified 280z's"--VERY popular catagory here in CA (that was sarcasm, folks). Please come by and say hi. steve77
  5. ...for Z's by the bay??? Probably not...everybody who is anybody will be going up I-5. Would be nice to have some company..... steve77
  6. I know this isn't much notuce...but: Driver's Talk Radio--AM 1410 KERN is having a remote broadcast Saturday, August 3rd at Nissan of Bakersfield in the Bakersfield Auto Mall. There will be a 350Z present and Tracy Miller from Driver's Talk Radio is trying to drum up all the grassroots support he can get--both vintage and recent. I will be traveling to Z's By The Bay that afternoon, so can not offer much support other than posting this in a few places. Any Z's that can drop by would be nice also Roadsters and 510's. If possible, let him know you are coming: Tracy Miller looseshoe@csurfers.net CELL: 661-972-5492 Thanks, Steve McConnell

  11. My opinion is you will like what K&N will do for your car. The car sounds better and will get better air (cleaner and less restricted). I also am of the opinion it gives a teensy bit more power. However: I stronly feel the only real way to get noticeable power improvements from this sort of bolt-on is to combine it with a free-flowing exhaust. Easy in, Easy out. Try this: Take the air cleaner off your Toyota Corrola or Volvo 740 or Geo Metro or whatever and go drive it. steve77

  14. www.510again.com--rumoured to be defunt and rarely updated www.Dimequarterly.com (the best--from the Hales) Either of these sites will give tons of links... There is also a REALLY ACTIVE 'list' called the bluebird list. E-mail me privately and I will give you the address. Steve77 ZVOITURE@aol.com
  15. I took mine to the local Midas. After explaining several times to several different individuals what I wanted AND CLEARLY STATING I DID NOT INTEND THEM TO DO IT FOR FREE, I was given the "We can't be liable" speech. Can't be responsible for damaging your arms, for damaging your new bushings, what if we get them out and the urethane ones in your hand don't fit? What if the assembly fails? And on and on. Lawyers have ruined the country. I gave up and went home and did them myself. Now, in hindsight, it was probably a BIG mistake going to MIDAS. They are a pretty big franchise 'chain' store here--even though they advertize, "For all your suspension needs--including lowering and lifting". A smaller suspension shop would have most likely not had the 'corporate' mentality. steve77

I can't comment on a f54/n42...That sounds like something that was put together...and who knows how it was put together? Flattops? I have a bone-stock innards in my L28 which in 77 (in the US) came with n47/n47. I have a K&N intake and headers with straight-out exhaust and I rev it easily and frequently to 5500 and occasionally to 62 or so. I tell you about the intake and exhaust because it did not rev to these levels easily before. I have never owned a L24, but I have heard many people say it can rev higher. Of course, it all depends on how it was built and how it is running....Balanced? Polished? Knife-edged? ARP? etc. etc. etc......A decently put together L should be safe to 7 and a very well built L-series could visit 8? steve77
  17. Hanson, if you're looking for E31's, I have a friend here with a few. They will be un-refurbished and probably in the $100-150 range. steve77

This was presented to me in a fairly close variation and it got me to thinking........ If someone who appreciates a 350z doesn't recognize or appreciate a 240, is the 350 really a Z? steve77

Hey, you want to make this conversation really interesting? Ask about headers and low-restriction exhaust, and if it produces more 'power'. Leave your question really vague. Just say, "power". Not torque or HP. You will get 500 different answers. steve(header, K&N---"easy in, easy out"= more power)77
  20. Hey guys...As a card-carrying member of the RSPBRC (Rear Spindle Pin Bushing Replacement Club), I can agree this is not fun. I just met a guy the other day who has several hundred of a tool he made in the 70's to remove these. He says he could sell them for maybe $30??? I have not tried them yet, but is anybody interested? Doesn't somebody else sell a tool for this? Maybe in Canada? Seems I saw one once online... steve(the soot is still drifting down from the garage ceiling)77
  21. Owen? Royce? I will meet you at ZFEST right???? We need a little sign of something--like a gang signal! Something.....how about a little White-Out 'Z' somewhere on the car. Somewhere it won't detract from judging or anything (not that my beater will be judged very hard!!!) Would the lower corner of the windshield on the passenger side be too ugly? Just put a little '240z.org' there with White-Out. And nobody pop up here and say, "See?...we should have 240z.org sitckers." I wouldn't put a sticker on my car if you paid me. steve77
  22. "August 4 is also the 212th Birthday for the United States Coast Guard. " Wow, you don't say.... Mike, if you can't make this show, you are a three legged monkey-hum**** sack of poopoo. I'll be there and will take lots of pix... MSA was/is great and all, but with the 350's and MrK showing up (i.e. Nissan support) all I can say is, "Take THAT, MSA!" steve(11 days till ZFESTwest)77

  25. Thin bumpers are on 240's and a version of them (almost identical) are on 260's. And the overriders come and go with individual whim....Bumpers are not an ideal way to tell 240's apart.... Fat, crash bumpers appeared on the280 when it first came out for the '75 model. Look at the 'wrap-around'--the black fat rubber side pieces that connect the bumper to the body. '75 and '76 are smooth with a single groove running their length. '77 and '78 have 'accordian' bellows. CAVEAT: I am speaking of USA vehicles only! steve(psych!--NO BUMPERS!)77
