Thanks for all the input everyone. Well, looks like I'm gonna have more time to decide. The guy at the bodyshop where I'm having the job done says he's a lil behind and trying to get this Falcon done so it might be 2-3 weeks before I can get her in. I could go else where but I really want to use this shop- he specializes in older, classic cars, and this guy seems to have genuine affection for my car and says it would be a "fun job". I guess he bought a 260Z new back in the day.... ...I could yet become part of the "Yellow Z-Car Club"

hey I had a friend with a GTO that color....very nice. If I go for red though, I'll go with one of the vintage Datsun reds, 110 or 905. I'm scheduled to get my air dam next Monday and I'm taking it in shortly thereafter...gotta decide soon.....

Well just got an email stating that my air dam has been shipped....which means my Z will be goin to the bodyshop within a week. Finally. This is exciting! That said, I still haven't decided on a color. Would I be banished from the Z community if I painted my '73 a non-'73 color- 919 yellow? I prefer this slightly over the 112......or I might go red...who knows....we'll see...

Some beautiful Zs indeed! Man, this is one of the toughest decisions I've ever had to make...drivin me nuts. Anyway, my car's original color was actually 112 yellow instead of the early 70s 919....its almost a golfball green color, and sometimes refered to as "lime". I actually prefer the 919 yellow...but that wasn't the original color. Arne, I see your point and would like to maintain a more vintage look. I decided against the full bodykit and am just getting the Xenon front air dam and carbon fiber bumpers....otherwise maintaining the classic look. So I'm sure I'll go with an original datsun color as opposed to something more modern. I plan on taking her in as soon as the air dam gets here- which should be any day now- so I need to make a decision here shortly....

Hey Hitman! here are some pics of my car as it is now:
  8. Yeah I thought $1,525 seemed way too low for that beauty. My Z is a '73 so I guess it was the 112 shade of yellow, which has more green in it like Arne said.
  9. Is there much difference between the 112 yellow and the 919 yellow? Seems like the 112 might have a lil more green in it. From what I can see in my car, can't really tell which color of yellow it was for sure...
  10. Thanks Steve, I'm definitely leaning that way. What makes it harder is I don't think I've ever seen a yellow Z in person....they must have sent all the yellow ones to the West coast! (mines from New Mexico...)
  11. My car's original color was 112 yellow....I can see glimpses of it in the interior and engine bay. Still debating whether to have it painted back to that color or red. Ny friends have been no help, some love the yellow, some hate it.....

Well, I'm getting ready to have my 240Z painted. I like the current grey OK but there are scratches, some surface rust, and damage to the hood that need to be repaired. This is going to require quite a bit of paint anyway, so I figured I'd be better off getting the whole car painted....that way it would be consistent. Anyway, I've narrowed it down to three colors: 1) Pale yellow....this was the original color, I can see indications of it in the interior and engine bay. This was my first choice, but seems to be a love-it-or hate-it color...I've got mixed opinions... 2) Red...of course the disadvantage of this is there are so many red sports cars around...and they seem to attract the wrong kind of attention... 3) Dark blue....I saw a Z on Ebay this color....very cool and classy... Any advice or opinions out there would be appreciated...this is not gonna be cheap so I wanna make the right choice. Also, are there any advantages to having a car painted back the original color?

I was 24....and my first Z was an '81 280ZX 2+2. She was an ol rust bucket, but man I loved that car.....
  14. A guy on another board was interested in the yellow car...but I guess her reserve is like $10,500. Seems a lil high for a car with that kind of mileage?
  15. I got MSA headers and exhaust for my 240Z. Sounds MEAN....and with a noticeable increase in hp too.

Well, I've decide not to get the full body kit and go more for the classic look. IMO, 240Zs are too good looking to tamper with too much. Anyway, I'm gonna find some bumpers and I ordered a Xenon front air dam yesterday. From what I can gather, there are three options as far as bumpers: 1) Euro style chrome bumpers: look great but expensive. 2) Carbon fiber: According to MSA, these are designed for 70-72 240Zs so you have to buy the early 240Z brackets and adjust accordingly. 3) Fiberglass: these are the cheapest, but just like the CF bumpers, they're designed for the early 70-72 Zs so you have to buy the early Z brackets. Anyone have any experience or opinions on the various bumpers?

Hey y'all, I'm new on here. I just bought a 240Z last Fall that I'm in the process of fixing up. I want to get the car painted this Spring but I'm trying to decide whether to just buy bumpers (currently doesn't have them) or maybe a bodykit with the integrated bumpers, maybe something like the MSA2 kit. I'm leaning towards just getting the bumpers (maybe Euro...or carbon fiber) and maybe a small front air dam...that way it'll maintain the classic, clean look. Any opinions or suggestions out there on this? Here are some current pics: And oh yeah......GO BEARS!!!!!!
