I hate this "LOVE-HATE" Relationship... This car just drives me nuts sometimes. Here is a List of things I have done to her: 1. Rebuilt entire engine 2. Replaced all gaskets for engine and Transmission 3. Replaced Master and slave(clutch) cylinder 4. Put in an electronic ignition. 5. Replaced Voltage Regulator 6. Replaced all 4 Shocks/Struts and put in some Eibach lowering springs. 7. Refinished and restored gas tank and replaced all fuel lines and filter. 8. Replaced Radiator and all hoses 9. New fan clutch 10. New fan clutch again, the other new one went out. Defective? 11. New battery 12. New starter and alternator 13. New clutch and flywheel 14. New tires 15. New headlights 16. Replaced windshield wiper motor and arm. and the darn thing is still not reliable. All I thought I needed was the body work now, but boy am I wrong. I guess i'll have to take her to an Auto Electric shop but before I do maybe someone can help. Here is the problem, when I turn on the car, turn on the headlights then disconnect the battery the car turns off, but if I hold down the throttle(just a bit)then turn on the lights and disconnect the battery the car stays on. I had the alternator checked and it is fine. If I have the headlights turned of the car stays on but it sounds and looks like it wants to turn off but doesn't. It just idles low, I have adjusted the idling and it just seems to drop low again. Sorry for the nuisance and thanks for all the help. Is she cursed or is this normal? I just feel like selling her sometimes, but then I wake up and realize that i'm not in the right state of mind.

Awesome! I just bought my new bike today and I needed someway of lugging it around in my Z... Very useful thanks a lot!
  3. I'm going, but I am not sure if I will take my Z, I would feel pretty dang embarrassed being next to all those perfect rust-less Z's(for the most part). My car is too ugly outside right now. My car originally from Oregon has some rust on the fenders, floor pans, and hatch area. What do you guys think, should I take her?
  4. I found some cables that were disconnected from the engine bay, oil pressure sensor wire, water temp sensor wire, and some others near the radio that I had no idea what they did, but I just put some electrical tape over them and voila! No more problem, I am still going to re-wire my Z just to be on the safe side. I'm going to remove that dang radio and put a new one in. There is a bunch of cables that belong to the radio and the equalizer that need to be gone, it looks like a web back there. Thank you all so much for your help.
  5. Hello Everyone! My name is Albert Sepulveda I own a 1973 240Z with quite a bit of problems. I bought this from a family that was going to junk it. I have always liked Z's so I couldn't see it get crushed. Little did I know all the problems the thing had. Anyways, I live in Los Angeles, CA. I am 20 years old and I am always seeking to learn from my elders(especially about Z's). If anyone ever wants to go fishing sometime, tell me I am always fishing around So-Cal. P.S. Oh, I'm a A+ Certified Computer Technician, so if you have any computer problems tell me so that I can be of some help.
  6. I checked all those connections and fixed the ground on the alternator. I started the car with a new battery, I disconnect the battery and the same thing happened. There must be a short somewhere... Where should I look. Oh, and the switch only has two positions. Thanks.
  7. oh and I found a switch inside where the fuse box is and tried switching it "on/off" and I didn't see any difference. I'll check as soon as I get the alternator thing done. Thanks everyone!
  8. I might have figured this out. I tried starting the car yesterday and it wouldn't start, I put another battery in and it started right up, I disconnect the battery and the car turns off... alternator, right? I take the alternator to the local Auto Zone to get it checked and the darn thing is ok. It turns out that a few days before the radio thing, My dad changed one of the radiator hoses and in doing so the corroded ground cable for the alternator broke apart and off. I haven't had the time to replace the wiring for that. But hopefully that is all. Do you guys think that is possible?
  9. I bought a wiring diagram off ebay, I haven't had the time to work on it... I think I have the service manual... It was in the car when I bought it. I will repost the results. Thanks everyone. P.S. I checked the dash dimmer, it didn't do anything... I was wondering what those knobs were for...
  10. I replaced a bad fuse for my radio on my 1973 240z, after doing so, all lights and gauges on my dash (except speedometer and ammeter) stopped working. Also my parking lights and turn signals stopped working. The brake lights and head lights work fine. I checked all the fuses with a multimeter and I replaced all the bad ones, still nothing. I don't know where to look next. I ordered a wiring diagram, but thought I'd ask while I wait for it to be delivered. Thanks in advance.
