Spindle pin, ahhhh!
Well, it took about 3 hours to get it out. I sure took a lot of muscle, it was very tiring.

Spindle pin, ahhhh!
It seems that my zed had suffered an accident in the rear right suspension. The car would sit about an inch lower on the rear right. After replacing the shock and coil, the problem was still present. So I purchased a rear right suspension unit(control arm, drum, and the whole deal). I removed the old suspension, then I proceeded in removing the spindle pin since the new control arm was not intact and was missing the spindle pin. I thought no big deal i'll just use the old one. Haha! that was way easier said than done. I couldn't get it out, so I had to go and purchase a new one from Motorsport. Putting it in was no easy feat either, The notch where the spindle pin lock slides into is not dead center so it has to in a certain way. I put it in the first time and, guess what, I put it in the wrong side in. I had to take it out and flip it over. But the darn thing seems to have jamed too! I wrestled with the spindle pin until I finally pulled it out. I flipped it over and there, perfect fit. Now my zed sits even on both sides. That was a hell of job, I think i'll make one of those spindle pin pullers that some of you guys have.

New tranny! woo-hoo, well kind of...
My transmission was making a loud whirring sound that only got louder as the RPM's got higher. I took out my transmission and took it to the transmission specialist, it had a bad bearing inside near the front of the transmission. Rather than just replacing the bad bearing I decided on getting the whole thing rebuilt. I got the rebuilt transmission back yesterday, put it in and the sound is gone. It feels and sounds much better.

Hot Starting?
The heat shields that I removed were on the fuel lines leading to the carbs, it looks almost like cotton covered in aluminum and wrapped around the lines. Man I wish I would have taken some pictures.

Am I the only one whose named their Z?
I haven't named my Zed, but I was wondering what you refer your Z as, male or female. I haven't decided on the sex of my car. I would like to know everyone else's feeling, it seems to me that this car is a very "manly" car(I don't mean to offend anyone). It's just that I find some what offensive when some one walks up and tells me that I have a "cute" car. Your thoughts?

Look at this picture..Is this too high
yup, my 73 never goes past the halfway mark, I have an OEM Nissan thermostat. The radiator is the stock one, it stays cool all the time.

Interchangeable suspension?
Cool, thanks for the feedback, I guess I'll keep looking for parts from a 240Z, I don't want any more weight on the car. Thank You so much, I would have hated putting in the parts and finding out that they were not the same. You saved me a lot of time. Thank You.

Interchangeable suspension?
I needed a new rear right suspension, strictly the a-joint. It seems that the PO had an accident and the rear suspension is now bent. I went to the local pick-a-part and all I could find was a 78' 280Z so I picked up the a-joint and everything attached to it(Coil, shock, drum etc.) I was wondering if these parts are interchangeable for a 1973 240Z. Can I simply remove the coil+shock and pop that thing in, or is there more to it? Any help and pointers are greatly appreciated. Thank You, Albert

bad dog parts
Has anyone purchased anything from http://baddogparts.com/ Is this place reputable? I am going to purchase a fuse box with a cover from this place and was wondering if anyone has ever bought anything from there. MSA has a new fuse box but it is a little too expensive $150? I know it is the new type fuses but it's to much for me right now. Thanks

Hot Starting?
In the morning when I start it, I just open the choke and it starts right up. I removed the heat shield from some of the fuel lines. That seems to have fixed the problem. Yeah and there is also a leak which I will be taking car of that today. I went to put gas in my tank and I decided to fill it to the top, It wouldn't fill, then I saw there was a leak at the fuel pressure sending unit, the gasket is worn out. Any ideas where I can buy that gasket and what it is called? Will I have to buy a new unit?

1973 Zed for sale
I am selling my car, I thought I would never be doing this but I have to. Going to college and using the money that was intended to buy books and using it to fix my Zed isn't going to work. I had another problem, I know it is minor but they never end(problems). There is a gas leak in the gas tank. The gasket that goes in between the fuel pressure sending unit and the tank is worn, hence the gas leak. I will change it tomorrow and she will be ready go. It also needs a new U-joint for the drivetrain but I don't think I will be changing that. There is an ad in the classifieds. This feels so bad but I have to.

Hot Starting?
You know, I think it does have the a heat shield on some of the hoses the car was originally from Oregon and I think they had those on for the cold weather. I'll remove them and see what happens. Thanks, I don't know why I didn't think of that.

Hot Starting?
Hey I've been having this problem with my Zed. When I start up my car in the morning when the Z is cold it will fire right up without a problem. After I drive it around and gets to normal operating temperature I park and turn it off, and if I Turn it on within five minutes it starts right up. If I Leave it for about 10 minutes, then come back and try starting it, it wont start unless I give it some gas. If I don't give it some gas it will just sputter and then turn off. Any ideas on what causes this, and how I can fix this. I own a 73' 240Z and the carbs were replaced with 72' 240Z carbs.

well guys.. the time has come..
I bought mine for 1000, from this wrecking yard in San Pedro... It was going to be made into a cube... I just couldn't see a work of art like this get destroyed. Sometimes I regret buying it but I am really happy that I did buy the car. I am sure you will feel the same way, DON'T GIVE UP! Ours will be as beautiful as the other ones outhere.

well guys.. the time has come..
That center console doesn't look like a 73 console. I might be wrong, but I haven't seen any with that type console. If you don't mind me asking, what was the purchase price. It is the same year as my Zed and seems to be in near the same condition. Nice car, your gonna have a lot of "fun" for the next few months... I know I did. I learned a lot of new things. Looks like you live in So-Cal, maybe you can take her to the West coast Nationals... If you decide to take her tell me so that I don't feel so bad about taking mine too!

Weather Stripping
I've bought the kit from http://weatherstripspecial.com/ before, they also sell everything separately. You can normally buy everything on-line but I just checked and they have this posted under the 240Z Purchase link, "Due to product supply issues please call or e-mail for availability. Thank you" You can also check Motorsport at http://www.zcarparts.com/ here is the link for the weather striping from them, http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/CTGY/SWR01 If you want I can e-mail you their catalog via e-mail in the PDF format, they have all the different weather striping listed in there.

Thanks! I didn't know some of that stuff, i'll look into buying a new alternator from a 280zx.

Not this again!
Well, I was having a problem with a short before, and I just like to make sure it's charging before I take it on the road. So is it normal for it to turn off when the lights are on? and where can I find a Higher output alternator. Thanks
