    I am from alabama so we dont have to have emission parts on our cars. But when i got my z it did have emission control on it,but since i use it to drag race only i took all of the emision stuff off of it and it runs fine. So if it is a daily driver i would put the emisions header on it, but if it is just a toy i would not use emision control parts on it. The choice is yours,either way it will run fine. The question is, TO B OR NOT TO BE LEGAL!!!

  3. Hey Warren, I have read all the posts on your prob. ann the one thing i havent seen a comment on is the fuel pickup screen in the tank. I had a prob. simular to yours. First off I have a fuel injected l28. So this may not help you. But mine started starving for fuel @2500-3000 rpm,s. When i found the prob. it turned out to be the the fuel pickup strainer in the tank. I took it out & replaced and it worked fine. That is 1prob I had w/fuel sys. The other prob. I had was the exact same situation, I rebuilt the engine and it took me about a year to get it back together. When i got it running I had the same prob. again . I never really figured out what the prob. was that time ,but this is what i did. It had a fuel cell in it but i had took it out an put the factory tank back in while it was tore apart ,so i blew all of the fuel lines out,installed a new fuel cell, and a glass fuel filter in. Ichanged all of this at one time so im not sure what fixed it. I think it was the venting line off of the tank.

    Check your fuel pressure to see if it is enough to run .Spray carb cleaner around carb base and manifold to check 4 air leaks. Also if your car has vent lines on the tank, you could have some thing in your lines that restricting your fuel, so you still even might be getting enough pressure but not enough volume. Is it possible the carbs need rebuilding? Remember if it,s getting fuel ignition,air, it should run. Ive had the same symtoms on my z, but it,s fuel injected so i dont think it will help you w/your prob, It was the fuel pump. I had two pumps that seemed to work fine, but i tested them and one was surging, I also blew all off the fuel lines out, and it works fine now. Its going to be something simple and stupid. Good luck.     So how much hp does it take to run 200 mph anyways? Where the hell can you drive 200mph in a street car? I origanally thought it was a horse power issue. But now that i think about it, porshe made a 944. Any thoughts ?

    Yepper,s thats the clip allright. I kinda thought that it might be a gtr or a knock off of the gtr. But i dont know that much about the new gtr, so i didn,t want to comment on it. All so i dont believe half of what i see on nopi. I have been to 2 NOPI events and it wasn,t that impressive. (they didn,t have the first original datsun z car,just one w/350 auto.) I was just curious to know if any one else had seen this or if there was an article of this b.s Thanks for the clip.

    Is datsun coming back? I was watchtng nopi tuner vision last night and saw what seemed to be a 350z. But it had twin turbo,s-(NOT SURE IF THEY ARE OEM OR NOT) and it had Datsun and 950 z emblems, Also briefly showed what seemed to be window sticker of $100,000. Has any one else heard of this?

  10. Thanks 4 the tip, How ever i do have a spare set. All though i dont care to use them. I decided to back it down last night. I did some testing with it and it and because of the humidity she fell of of the power band a little. I was still pulling pretty good @6,700. after that she fell on her arse. I have a little more work to do before i go back to the track. I promise i,ll try keep it under 6,000. Thats hard to do in this car cause its too much fun.
  11. It ran well. Maybe to well. The suspension is a little to stiff, it kept over powering the track. Tried all sorts of launching from 800 rpm,s -3500 . Best et was 10.12 w/no traction. Last time i went to the track w/original suspension and motor was a little weaker, best et was 9.70 through the 1/8. Some thing else i noticed is that the track is a lot slicker than the street in front of my house he he. So sticky,s here i come!!! Gonna test out the supra next week!!

I have a few, It has a full flow tech exaust system w/flowtech header readies,aluminum flywheel,brass clutch,tranny swap,super coil,taylor 8mm. wires,I took the clutch fan off and installed an electric fan in its place,eliminated power steering, to take drag off of the motor and replaced the gas tank w/a fuel cell. And i replaced the restricted exaust manifold w/a big belly manifold. and also cold air. Thats about it. Thats all i can afford right now.
  13. Not really, I had suspension issues and he car really strained when it hit 7000- 7500 rpms. How ever it would tack up a little more on a cool night. But I resolved the suspension issue and without doing any thing else to the engine it will hit 8000 rpms without a problem and still pulling pretty good. Oh yea, in case you are wondering, this is just a track car. I WISH I COULD DRIVE IT EVERY DAY! But the suspension wont allow it.
  14. Thats about normal for this car, usually i push about 7,500-7,800. I replaced the rockers today and it seems to be ok. I did pull the head and there was no visable piston/valve damage that i could tell. Taking her to the track tomorrow, I guess i will find out if its fixed. I will post results.
  15. Thanks guys for the help,I figured it out. It was so simple that it was stupid. I was fixing to pull the motor out and for some strange reason i decided to pull the valve cover. And there it was, a rocker arm had come loose. So i checked it out with another one i had and it was just wore out. So i replaced it and she runs fine. But i suspect the others are not far behind failure either, so i will replace all of them tomorrow. I am still confused though, because i checked all of the rockers before it started smoking and they all seemed to be in working order. Every thing seems to be back to normal, nosmoke no missing and she will run very well, all though i am afraid to push 8000 rpm,s untill i get all of the rockers replaced.     Hey guys &gals. I just built a motor about 600 miles ago,The motor ran great. But i used this motor in my race car so i am sure that had a lot to do w/it. The motor is an l28e. It will turn 8000 rpm,s very quickly, I know it broke the piston today. BUT WHAT I DONT KNOW IS HOW. Acouple of weeks ago the #3 piston hit the spark plug and closed the gap. I put a new one in it and there was a little bit of a rattle an then it cleared up with no problems. (I did check the cyl. for trash and there was none) well today it started again but this time it was #6. I changed the plug and ran it up the road and it ran fine. but when i got off of it, sure enough it done it againbut this time it moved back to #3.There was no rattles or knocks it just started missing. so i took all of the plugs out because they are the long shank plugs. and i put some short shank plugs in to give them some more clearance. Then i took it up the road, and it ran fine. So i stopped, pulled over and turned around. When i started moving again , it started to miss and then she started smoking real bad, so i am assuming that the piston broke. What i want to know is how come it kept swapping cyl., and how come it did not hit he plugs every single time i cranked the engine if it was a clearance issue? Any help would be greatly appreaciated. I just dont want to make the same mistake again. THANKS Gene.

    I am mainly concerned w/ the speedometer because all the stuff i have is manual out of 79-80. the digital car has no tranny or motor in it, Do ya think the ecu, afm, and engine out of the 80 will work without re wiring it if i leave the digital cluster in it? I am trying to figure out the best route to take on this swap. I have an awesome running gear in my 80,but the body is completly shot! Oh yea, the digital car is an 83.

    I would use a whole set of rods and pistons from the same set.That would insure a better ballanced set. Because they would have the same amount of wear on them. I would not use the bearings, put new ones in it,they are not that costly. I would also have the crank checked to be safe. U might need to have the crank turned. I dont know much about the top end cams etc. maybe some one else can help u on that. good luck.

    Good news and bad news guys&gals. The good news the car ran well nothing broke.(on the car at least) That brings us to the bad. The dadburn tranny went out on my truck on the way home from the track. Had to pull the car home in second gear about 15 miles. Oh well thats what i get 4 selling my hard body and buying an american made truck i guess.

    My truck, im pullin it to the track w/my z. . Im just kidding. Im goin to attemp it with the z. I got the tranny back in last sunday. I cranked it up about 6 o clock. It needs a exaust flange gasket and i have to tap the manifold and install 1 stud. Found a loose fuel line at the pump,a loose water line, all minor stuff. Wish me luck.
