Unable to place my ads.
^ I was on a borrowed internet connection. Whenever I attempted to upload pics, the connection would fail. Again, I apologize. I am quitting the Z biz, and figured I could help a few people out, Matt.

Unable to place my ads.
The rims are gone, however if anyone is still wondering, I still have a complete '78 motor that is FREE to whoever wants it. The seals are bad, 150psi in all holes, but it smokes after an idle. Motor is in long block form with all acc's in a box. Sorry, I will not ship. I will not bump this thread anymore. I don't want to be pushy or rude. Please PM if interested.

For some reason, I am unable to complete the process of placing an ad for some stuff I have. I am on a weak "borrowed" internet connection so that may be the reason. Black pearl mirrors??
Mirrors alone worth $200? If I didn't have a conscience, I would part out my car. I have it advertised locally for sale as a complete car and will get a fraction of what I could if I were parting it out.

so if you could do ANYTHING to your Z...
I'd register it. With my work taking up most of my time, there's little left to find the motivation to get this car on the road. Smog laws and 29 year old parts are sure making this project less and less exciting. :disappoin:disappoin:disappoin

Just bought #331 and two parts cars
Mike, I admire your passion for, and dedication to the early Z's. If you are anything like me, you probably want to keep and restore all of them. These choises are very difficult to make (to state the obvious). I have not come in contact with, or even seen a low VIN Z in person (lower than #10,000). To own one, let alone a few, must be awesome. Not much to add to your thread, but you definately have my props!

Lookat What I did!
KDMatt, I noticed in your initial thread that you purchased the connectors as well. I have not located these yet. Are they from CSK too? or Mr. Injector? I will search the forums too. I have to tell you guys, compared to the other Z car forums, the demeanor here is very mature and professional. Here, there are far fewer flamethrowers, and omnipotent administrators.

Lookat What I did!
I found the link you are referring to and I will give it a try. This is valuable info. Thanks for the support and the valuable responses -public and private, Matt

Lookat What I did!
My main reason for asking was that the small hoses appear to be permanently attached to the injector at the base. Is this hose removable? Mine leak.

Lookat What I did!
KDmatt, I am looking to replace the injectors on my Z. Unfortunately, the cheapest new ones I have found are $75 ea. These were @ NAPA. Would you mind sharing with us where you found yours and how much $. In your initial post, you mention checker (Kragen out here). I will check their website. Matt

Project BPE
Thanks for the tip Zbane. I thought of that too after reviewing the day's events. The gas that was drained from the tank was yellow/ orange and had a foul odor. I used a new plastic tub as a recepticle so I could examine the contents. I could see no solids in the old gas. I have an extensive list of parts I plan to replace, and your suggestions are on the list:). Matt.

Project BPE
Aside from having the ugliest engine bay on the board, I noticed today that the motor is down on power. I'm thinking that it has to do with either a vacum leak, incorrect ign timing, or a problem with the vacum advance. While sitting still, the engime revs up just fine, but when I attempt to run the car under load with heavy throttle, it lacks the power it once had. All cylinders are firing, there is no popping, stumbling, or hesitation. I'll see what answers a search gives me.

Project BPE
The car is running now. I drove it around today (about 5 miles), but there are some small details that still need attn. Next is the complete engine tune for smog. There is some black smoke @ WOT, so I will adjust the AFM accordingly. Sorry, no pics yet.

Here are some before (current) pics: I hope all goes well with this.

Project BPE
Well everyone, tomorrow is the day. As some of you know, My Z has been stored in a garage since Feb of '95. I have not driven the car since '99. Tomorrow I will start the process of bringing the Z back to a 'streetable' car. This will be a tedious task, but well worth it. I am familiar with what needs to be done...it's going to take some serious effort. My first goal is to get the Z running again. It only needs new injector hoses, a good fuel system flush (I hope the tank is okay:paranoid:), and fresh fluids. There was nothing wrong with the car when I stored it, so all of the problems will be related to improper vehicle storage:stupid:. I will inspect the front calipers, pads, and rotors, repack the front wheel bearings, inspect the rear wheel cylinders, all of the rubber brake hoses, and bleed the entire system. I hope the master cylinder is still good:nervous:. Also, I will bleed the clutch. The pedal feels okay even after all these years, but I don't want any problems. Lastly, I will tune the engine so it will smog If the car passes smog, I will then have to take the car to the DMV, so they can verify the VIN. Then after all of the paperwork is completed, I will be able to drive my Z again. When the car is roadworthy, I will have more options regarding its future. Some of you may remember seeing it in the classifieds here. I bought this car with a blown motor, replaced it with a junk yard unit, and promptly stored the vehicle...it's been a while. If I've missed anything on the list of repairs, let me know.

Will Cars of Today Become Classics?
. http://s2000.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2494&highlight=s2000+motor]link to S2000 specs ta240. IMO, the evolution of the S2000 mirrors that of the first gen Z. In the first year of production, the S2000 had its own "first year flaws". For example, the tail lights on early S2000's did not have enough reflectors inside, so they changed the rear lights for 'o2. On the early S2000's the synchros for 2nd gear were a weak link in the trannys, and the seat belt would catch on the framing of the top (when down) to name a few. Just like the Z, Honda has added displacement, torque, and luxury oriented features through the years similar to the differences between the 240 and the 280Z. The body panels are the same, but the car as a whole is not. My car has all of the flawed parts on it and that's okay by me. It is completely original and I hope one day, it will represent yesterday's technology just like the 240Z does today. Horsepower is down on the newer models, torque is up. My car was manf'd in 6/99, I believe that to be the first month of production. It is #415

What would you like to add to your S30?
CA registration...is that too much to ask?

Will Cars of Today Become Classics?
I agree with wingnut whole hartedly. I purchased a new Honda S2000 in late Sept of '99 with the hopes of re-living the driving joy of the 240Z I owned in H.S. The deal maker for me was the fact that this car was one of the first 500 built. I immediately thought of the '69 year production Z's. The car is a blast to drive and only has 20k miles after 8 years. However, with these cars, even the low VIN's are valued no different than the newer models. Honda really hyped up these cars when they were introduced and gave buyers the impression that this was to be a very limited production car. After 8 years of production, I guess I was fooled. Oh well, I still have my Z

How Much Should I be Spending on a Paint Job for 240z
I agree with Gary, The question you are asking is not easy to answer. I say this because there are , as you know, $100 paint jobs as well as $10,000 paint jobs. This all depends on the condition of the car, amount of prep (bodywork, block sanding, etc.), quality of products used (sealers, paints), intensity of rust removal (rotisserie, cut 'n weld), and final assembly, to name a few. Bringing a car to a paint shop while disassembled is risky. There are many risk factors that one should consider. The most common is probably the accidental misplacement, or even theft of the parts. Be careful when having a vehicle painted while disassembled. It is common to see uneven coverage and color/ gloss differences in the clearcoat. Some body panels may look different in specific lighting. If you are looking to paint all of the areas not seen, have them do this while the Z is apart. Then, they can assemble it and then spray the exterior so the body is covered in a uniform matter. I am no painting expert, this response is based on experience. Matt

I'm in San Diego this weekend
Where are you staying? What part of town? Matt here, I'm in Mission Beach.
