  1. Exactly Gary. Have the kyb g-2's all around on my 72. My springs are progressive and things could not be be better. Just my thoughts
  2. Arne: Thanks for mentioning that. But we can still buy new distributors for our cars.Would I be correct in saying that with a new Datsun distributor and Pertronix ignitor the cost would still be less than some other applications? Mallory or MSA for example. Just a question. John:classic:
  3. One word. Pertronix. There are some good electonic systems out there and they do work well. Most are spendy. I paid around $90.00 for my pertronix ignitor and it was just about the best upgrade I ever did to my 72. I mean the thing is simple and it has been bulletproof for me. I had previously tried a E1280 module dizzy and it just did not work for me.Module went out ( it was old when it went in) and you either get another one out of the junk yard if you can find one or fork out $300.00 plus for a new one. I also have a couple of friends that have some seriously sick muscle cars and they have been running pertronix for years. There are alot of options out there but this really works for me. :classic: My opinion only. There are alot of good people on this site that are very knowledgeable and I am sure they can give you some other options as well. Good Luck

Its alive. Another zed is being brought to life. I like the flatblack too. I am always working on my 72 and it is a ongoing process. But at least you can work on them. These cars now days you cannot even see the motors, let alone work on them. Keep up the good work.
  5. Now I am not positive but believe that they are the same 1970 thru 1978. The three screw type that is. I am however sure that you can get a new one OEM from your Datsun dealer. Why not put the original back on? Just my two cents worth.

There is a guy up here in Portland ( John) that has them for sale all the time on CraigsList. They are "used" valve covers that have been polished. They are a nice product. $100.00 each and that is a fair price. Look in auto parts(Datsun) for Portland Oregon and you will be set. You will not be disapointed.:classic:

That car is not only overpriced it is a mess. But I guess there are people that would pay the price. Just not me or any of the Z guys I know. All I can say is wow. Is this the part where you put the lipstick on the pig? Just my honest opinion. This is a prime example what e-bay can do.

Pretty sad. However some must die so others can live on. looks like there is quite a few good parts left. Man that rust is terminal though.
  10. Great job. I think that alot of people get trapped in the idea you need to spend alot of money to do things right. Sometimes, but not always you can save yourself alot of money. I try and do alot of work by myself (and a couple of close friends) :classic: I get alot of personal satisfaction that way. Besides that my ex-wife saw to it that I will be a PWB (Poor White Boy) for a long time. Seriously it looks great in my opinion. John
  11. I went to the local NAPA store here in town and was looking for #110 Persimmon/Orange Red. I prefer to call it Orange. Took a while looking thru some old books but had no trouble getting the paint. Polyurethane enamel from Martin Senour paints. In my opinion only it is as good as PPG paint. It was about $440.00 a Gallon. However I got the paint. thinner, and catalyst for a whole lot less than that. I know somebody. I have to admit that the paint chip in the book looked a whole lot different ( more red) than the undersides of my tool box compartments. But it was a very old book. I am just saying the paint is available. I only wish it was Dupont Centari Enamel:D Just my two cents worth. John
  12. I have done a couple of valve covers and it was alot of work but like Gary and others said it can be done. I finally went out and bought my last one from a guy that lives out in this area. Chrome plated for $100 dollar bill. They are extremely nice. Doing two by hand was enough. As for valve cover gaskets I get mine (72 240z) at my local Napa . I have had no problems getting Beck-Arnley and or Felpro. Just had to wait a couple of days. I also believe you can still get OEM Nissan. There are several choices available. This is what works for me in my opinion only. Have fun. I might add that after I take things apart a couple of times I usually get it right. But thats how I learn. :classic:
  13. I have both as well and they are in fact the best upgrade for your electrical system. IMHO It will make an amazing difference, I do know that. Simple to install and they do exactly as advertised.

Got mine thru my Nissan dealer as well. That was the easy part. The real fun is under the dash. Actually it wasn't that bad. It is pretty tight in there and the job is a little time consuming.Since you are replacing the hoses make sure and get the grommets where they go thru the firewall as well. I am sure they are toast also. Hope this helps.

I looked harder and found the answer I needed.:stupid: However it would seem that Konig would make them a few millimters taller so that you did not have to mash them flat or remove the dust cover. Aaaaah that would be just to simple to do would it not? And at least say something about it. Live and learn I guess. I am going to call them tommorrow, but I will get a nights sleep first.

I just got my new Konig Rewinds for my 1972 240. I ordered from them factory direct from a dealer friend of mine. They are 15" wheels. I do know alot of people run them. Here is the problem/opportunity. On the front wheels the center cap is hitting the dust cover and will not go on. Pulled the dust cover and the spindle nut is almost out to the end. So that means a shorter dust cover will not help. Will talk to Konig tommorrow and see if they make a taller center cap. Any of you guys run into this problem? I really love the wheels and new tires, but this kinda bums me out. :surprised Waited 4 weeks to get them. I have seen alot of posts on Konigs but never have seen this issue come up. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks in advance. John
  17. Thanks Gary and to you too Arne. Good advice. :classic: Do not worry Gary I will see you around.
  18. Gary : This is exactly why I am not going to Canby. There is always some confusion and politics and rules. Not just at Canby either. Personally I would just rather get together with a few people such as Roger and you and sit around some place and have something to eat and drink and just bs about Z cars. Its not worth the headache. Furthurmore the club thing is not for me either. Just changing directions and life prorities and going down a different road. I also do not want to offend anyone that goes to Canby or is in any club. If it works for them I am happy for them. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and I support that fully. This happens to be mine. I have owned Z cars for almost thirty years and just want to do my own thing. On a personal note thanks for your help and advice . All the best. John:classic:
  19. I will put my two cents on this one. Originally I went with the E1280 module distributor conversion on my 1972. Howwever I had some issues due to the wrong coil and such and lost a couple of modules. I admit the car ran real well compared to the points system. Beandip ( Gary) helped me with the process. Well due to the cost of modules ($300.00+) from Nissan and the headaches of chasing a used one down in the junkyards I went to a Pertornix ignition. I was able to use all my original wiring and simple two wire connection and away I went. In retrospect I wish I would have done the Pertronix in the first place. Simple and only $90.00 from NAPA. Plus you get a 30 month warranty from them. My car is stock and it runs just as well as well with the Pertronix as the E1280 Module. Mileage has stayed the same. I will add that the coil I was running was a MSD Blaster 2. My tach would jump around and after about two weeks the module died. However I have read threads on here that other guys use them with no problems.( with E1280 Module) I am still wondering about that part of it. Not an expert. Finally I will say in my opinion that the Pertronix is the way to go due the simplicity of installation and the long track record of excellent performance. It is working very well for me.:classic: Will add that I called Tech support for Pertronix and they were very helpful with some questions that I had.
  20. Way to go Dave. That is a heck of a deal, and that is an understatement.
  21. The thing I like about E-Bay is it pushes the price of our cars up. As for price on this car, who knows? There is a very nice 1978 on Craigslist out here in Portland for $8000.00. It has been on there awhile. If I had my choice I know what I would do. You can do alot to a car for another "few" thousand dollars. I guess in my opinion only alot of these e-bay cars are overpriced. And they always seem to special or unique in some way or another. There are still quite a few cars around that can be purchased for a whole lot less. Parts as well. They just require more work than some of the others. In my opinion thats what it is all about. Maybe this is a nice car, but its alot more money than I have. Also the sellers rating is a little scary.
  22. I will apologize for saying the 260 2+2 is ugly. Quite frankly in my opinion only it is not attractive or appealing. However I did say if someone wanted to restore one I don't have any problem with that. Not trying to discourage anyone here. If it makes you happy, it's your car. So rock on Brother.
  23. Those 2+2 cars are just butt ugly. No one else will say it so I did. There are a couple of them on Craigs list out here and they can"t give them away. I know where another one is sitting. They are a pig with wings. All years of themLOL However this is only my opinion. They were the result of a bad dream somewhere in Japan. I have no problem if someone wants to restore one, it's not gonna be me. And as Escanlon said somewhere down the road they may be worth something. They may be rare, but they sure are ugly.
  24. You said it perfectly.
