  1. I'm one of the very few people running the MSA 2x pipes setup on a 2+2. I had to have a foot long section welded in to make it fit the longer chassis, but I am happy with the way it mounts up. It does hang a bit low, especially on my car, which is lowered with Tokico springs and running a shorter-than-stock wheel/tire combo. Speed bumps are a real hazard for me, and I occasionally even scrape a tad on more pronounced hi-speed highway dips. Be warned, this setup is LOUD. Almost V8-ish at idle, and the resonances are a bit strong in the 2-3K range, but there is nothing like the scream when you're WOT and pulling through 6K. Truly an intoxicating sound! The backfires and burbling when you close down the throttle is a plus in my book too. I would be remiss if I failed to mention that it can be tiresome over long drives, especially since the car is turning over 4K on the Interstates (no OD and 3.545). But it suits my driving habits well. It sure does wake me the hell up on the drive to the office! I should post a sound clip, I'll see if I can put one together over the weekend.
  2. Well done! Looks OUTSTANDING!

Lots of Z guys/gals in FL. We're in Tampa. A lot of active clubs as well. Where are you?
  4. Disconnect the upper ball end of the linkage from the throttle rod to the carb linkage, and see if the idle drops. When I converted my 260Z from flattops to SUs the linkage was too long and caused the same problem. Turns out I needed to use the thick carb spacers from a 240Z instead of the 260Z spacers. Changing the spacers increased the distance to the carb linkage and made the fit correct. Anyway, if you disconnect the linkage and the throttle return to idle, you'll know if that it is too long and won't allow the carb throttle plates to close fully. Good luck!
  5. Nothing will "fit" without fabrication other than an L6. Even an RB or other inline six won't just bolt up without fabricating new engine mounts and getting creative wherever else it is necessary to fit. If you mean "fit" as in having enough room in the engine bay, sure--ANY four will fit, most any six, and most small block V8s too. If you visit Hybridz.org you'll find that the Z engine bay has been made to accommodate some pretty amazing stuff. That's probably your best source of information on non-L6 swaps in general. For what it's worth though, putting a sub-2L four in an S30 Z strikes me as sacrelige.
  6. I just changed out the stock struts and springs on my 260Z for a Tokico kit including springs and Tokico HP strut cartridges. Total drop was 2" in the front, 1.5" in the rear. I am VERY happy with the setup, and the kit cost only about $350 on Ebay from seller jdmwerks, who I recommend highly (with the only caveat being they are lousy at communication). Great value. This will totally transform your car's handling if you are coming off stock suspension. Definitely a harsher ride, but well worth it (at least to me).

Actually the stock rearend for a '74 2+2 Auto is an R180 3.545, I have the identical car :squareeye Heck Elliot, if it looks decent and runs even fair, I'd buy it for 300. Swapping the carbs is easy, just remember you'll need to change out the skinny carb spacers for the thicker, 240 style. That was my only goof when I swapped out my flattops for roundtops and couldn't get the linkage to fit. :stupid: I just dropped the car almost 2" with a Tokico spring/HP strut package ($350 from jdmwerks on EBay) and the handling is super! Better highway ride than the 2-zeater too. I've got a year's worth of time and a bunch of money invested in mine, and I can say that I have ZERO regrets about going 2+2. As for "ruining the lines" of the Z, I think the 2+2 (like the Jag XKE 2+2) has its own style, and set up right it gives away nothing to the coupe. See my gallery for some pics (taken before the 2" drop)http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showgallery.php?ppuser=14082&cat=500
