  1. My opinion is Mikunies are not the way to go. Trip mikunies on a stock motor do absolutely nothing when compared to a refurbished (ZTherapy) SU setup. Both deliver a mix of fuel and air proportional to the vacuum. You need the mikunies when you add more vacuum from the motor (pistons/valves/cam) than the SUs support. Mikunies are the last upgrade you do, not the first. That's the way I see it.
  2. Throttle bushings leaking air or other vacuum leak?
  3. The shoulder strap on the '72 was static, not retracting. Retracting shoulder belts bolt in to the same mount point as the static strap however.

I have 300K miles on my car and have never had any problems with the door strikers. I've replaced my weatherstrip a few times, but not the door mechanisms. Are they really "failure-prone"???
  5. Run it like an open source project where list of 10 or so folks who know what they are doing can actually modify the data. A simple data entry web page and simple approve/reject page could be written in something simple like PHP. Might make a fun Google Web Toolkit app which would mean java.
  6. Thinking about silver POR on the brake and fuel lines. Wha-da-ya-think?
  7. I did it one day. Was pretty hooked except I blew up my motor. I spun a rod. The Z racers with L motors asked me "did ya put an extra quart of oil in?". I said no... "Well, you were cornering real good out there, you probably had all the oil on the wall of the block and ran the crank dry...." Other factor was the block has 300K miles on it. Sure was fun!!! :stupid:

These aren't standard DatsunRestore (my wife didn't want butterscotch) so its a custom color, but is representative... I couldn't get the fabric to lay down in the lower recessed corners. Looks great when the doors are closed. http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=24646&ppuser=14083
  10. Wow, I'm about to put the front of my motor back together. Can't imagine more timely info. Sorry you had the time/expense setback!

Motorsport sold a Hirschmann automatic antenna in the '80's. I have one of those and its been extremely reliable.

Two reports we should dig up for this. One is the Wind Tunnel experiments on the S30 done a while back. The other was way back but involved exhaust system swaps on a stock motor dyno'd.. The test showed no improvement (until you beefed up the motor)...
  13. It would be fun to make vids of classic mechanical mistakes like letting the timing chain drop, hack sawing spindle pins, stripping stub axle nuts, stripping manifold studs, jacking up the car on the floor pans....

I'd put my philosophy as "L six cylinder motor with SU side draft carbs". Everything else is up for interpretation.
  17. 432Z show-n-tell car RB motor in a '72 for the track my Green '72 <-- getting overhauled now for Texas hill country drives one of Dave's overhauls

I would imagine the 432Z's command hefty price tags in Japan. Carl?
  19. Replacing the bushings at the back of the transmission really helped my ride.... Just FYI...

Absolutely. If you didn't get after the wheel wells while it was all opened up, you'd never be able to live with yourself... The horror...

The Datsun dealer marketing photos used lots of photographic color filters so they are poor guides for color originality. The avocado green paint code 113 comes out much darker in the photos than it actually is for instance... http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=32325&ppuser=14083

I like it showing on the suspension. Lots of fine examples on classiczcars. I got pretty jazzed about the idea from Dave and others and did mine up. To get the bite, I sand blasted everything... It took 2 4 oz cans of POR to do this job. I'm also going to have it showing in the battery tray area, underneath the master cylinder, most of the engine bay frame rails and across the lower part of the firewall/tranny tunnel. I read POR does well with brake fluid. hitting it. http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=32786&ppuser=14083
