  1. I have some photos posted on my LizardSkin application in this thread.
  2. wow! WTF? Good eye Leon...
  3. I'm looking at the photo and the distortion on the inner bolt hole seems to indicate that the top plate is too weak to accommodate the negative camber introduced with the slots. The cheap solution is exactly what Leon mentioned. Maybe the car was being raced hard and street driving won't distort the mount point any further. A camber plate with decent welding will fix it the right way.

Its a pressurized gas tube strut cartridge, KYB and Tokico are most commonly used. I use two big pipe wrenches; one on the top nut that is keyed like a bicycle crank nut, the other on the shock tube. After the threaded nut is off, hopefully the strut pulls out. Sometimes they get rusted into place. Don't think you'll run into that on this strut as it looks relatively modern (I'd guess 10 years old). When assembling, I put oil in the void between the gas tube insert and the strut body to prevent rust.
  5. You should have a solid rear end soon. Might want to read up on the RT differential mount modification to smooth it out even more. Those fuel and ventilation lines look like they are on their last legs, but I haven't figured out how to get them out w/o both the tranny and the diff out of the car.

Pixar in Cars 2 honored Matsuo-san by naming the Japanese team's pit boss "Mach Matsuo" at the "World Grand Prix". Very fitting tribute. Mach is a '70 Fairlady Z. I spotted a bunch of Z's in the movie and updated the wiki here http://pixar.wikia.com/Mach_Matsuo

Today's Austin American Statesman (local paper) includes a nice glossy F1 race week guide. If you are in town, pick up a copy. http://www.statesman.com/documents/2012/nov/13/download-copy-your-f1-grand-prix-fan-guide/ I'm kicking off race week with a paddock tour Thursday morning.
  8. Just did my '04 Tahoe which had the same issue. It was the pressure regulator which was odd because it held a vacuum and wasn't leaking externally. Must have been the O-Ring on the high pressure side which would leak to the low pressure return line; low pressure O-Ring problem causes an external leak as would the diaphragm cracking). Figured it was the regulator or a leaky injector. Found a whole set of injectors for the truck for 150.00 which blew my mind http://www.fuelinjectionsurplus.com/NEW-OEM-FLEX-FUEL-FJ502/dp/B000IYLJFS?field_availability=-1&field_browse=5436368011&field_product_site_launch_date_utc=-1y&id=NEW+OEM+FLEX+FUEL+FJ502&ie=UTF8&refinementHistory=brandtextbin%2Csubjectbin%2Ccolor_map%2Cprice%2Csize_name&searchNodeID=5436368011&searchPage=2&searchRank=salesrank&searchSize=12
  9. Baby gets new shoes!
  10. That myPublisher web site is awful. Car should highlighted on classiczcars
  11. I had puffs of smoke on startup and between shifts. What fixed it for me was new valve stem seals. While I did pull the head and did the valve seals at the same time, it is possible to do the seals w/o pulling the head.

    Seriously cool find.
  13. Datsun 240Z going from LA to Boston being blogged. Looks like something to watch. http://hooniverse.com/2012/07/11/time-to-introduce-the-datsun-drive/

So trogdor1138, check your gas cap negative pressure valve gasket :cheeky:
  15. GreenZZZ posted a post in a topic in Help Me !!
Negative pressure!!! Symptom is full tank of gas will leak out the crease on both side of cap when making right turns.
  16. You have the hood cracked for more airflow/cooling?
  17. Everything I owned fit into my 240 until I was about 22. I wouldn't buy stuff unless it could fit into "the pack" which was an elaborate load-out scheme to move out of a furnished apartment at the end of a semester of school. Like your shopping experience, the car was loaded to the ceiling even on the passenger side. On the misconception side, I was on a date and the gal asked if my car was Jag while sitting in the passenger seat. I tap the "Datsun 240Z" logo on the glove box and a few times and get nothing but a confused stare. I figure she didn't read much and said, "Yeah, its a Jag with a Mercedes straight six motor for reliability..."
  18. Guy Miller ranch... where thoroughbred Datsuns go to stud.
  19. Is this why the console changed between 71 and 72? The stick is in a different spot?

The stress of the gas tank work might have caused a crack in the filler neck. Mine lasted 30 years before cracking. Other thing to check is if the gas cap has an rubber gasket in it or the spring loaded pressure relief valve in the cap is stuck open.

Good thread on rebuilding the box here... http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/thread23409.html Mine came out great. Blasting/painting and replacing the padding took a bunch of time though.
  22. I had my eye on it too. Easy to swing by Cibolo and grab it. Hopefully he got a can't say no offer.
  23. They were $500 a set last year. $610 now. Real nice parts.... http://www.new-datsun-parts.com/datsun-240Z-parts-doors.html
  24. Price is key to this project as the full replacement panels can be dyed easily enough and have the felt window wipe on the inner lip.
  25. Anyone know how many '72's were made like that?
