Awesome! Mine is a late '73 240z so this head is the same as what my car had when new. I would have never known if it wasn't for this goldmine of a site where Z knowledge is huge! Just one step closer to fully original.

You guys really know your ztuff ! Never heard of that Modification plus program. Mine had flat tops when i first got it, but quickly replaced them with '71 carbs. Will definitively take a closer look at that panel tomorrow. What else should i know about that program ? I have serial no HLS30 141667

Hi folks mine is a late '73 240z 4speed and and when i accelerate from a standstill, i head a solenoid click at around 2500rpm coming from the passenger kick panel electrical board. What is that solenoid anyways ? There's no electrical fuel pump on this car, but 2 unplugged wires with the 2 fuel gauge wires at the tank. am I missing a pump? it has a mecanical one, of course. Always wondered if that solenoid is somehow related to the fuel system.
  8. Bought my first 240 in '84; it was a '72 with minor rust issues but overall in very good shape. Was working at the local speed shop then, and a guy just walked in and offerered to sell it to me, knowing i was looking for one. Didn't do much to it other than proper maintenance and it got stolen in '86. then bought a '73 in a sad, bad & unfinished condition. This prompted me to scavenge and strip every 240Z in salvage yards in the area to build a stockpile of replacement parts, as many of these parts are now on my '73. Both my 240Z came from St-Hyacinthe. ( a little place between Montreal and Quebec city). Now there's snow on the ground, so my '73 is stashed away for winter.

I'm replacing the inner door panels in my '73 and the ones being installed need to be tinted from white to black. Tried Plasticolor vinyl tint but didn't like the cheap plastic looks of it. Suggestions anyone ?

These locks are easily rebuildable; I took a pair of mis-matched locks and fixed them to work on the same key. I've found that pre-90 Hyundai springs & pins will fit in Z locks. as for the facecap, mine were just straightened and glued in place with 2-part epoxy . Done this 8 years ago and they are still holding & working well.

Hey boys & gals, new guy Wab here. This is my story, hope you'll enjoy it! My first encounter with the Z was way back in 1967 at Montreal's international exposition also known as Expo 67. I was only 9 yrs old then, but very interested in the car world. Gee dad! That little car looks awfully fast!! i remember saying. I dunno son, my father replied, it's just a japanese car. A few years later, in '71, there was was one of these who would zoom down the road behind our house everyday at 5:15pm and i would stop wathever i was doing in the back yard just to watch it go by and listen to it, just wishing to get one, once i'm old enough to drive. Many years later, in '84 i bought my first Z, a very nice '72 Burgundy colored, black interior with wire wheels. It was beautifull and was a true pleasure to drive. By then i was working in a car specialty shop selling headders & mags & carbs & hi-perf. stuff and reading everything in sight car related, and getting very handy with tools & cars. Then after 3 years of pampering my precious z, it got stolen !!! A few weeks later, i'v found another one, a '73, in a half finished state of restauration, but running. That Z wouldn't go 60 mph and held the road like a dump truck The bodywork was well done, with new factory frame rails, inner fenders and floor panels, Straight & solid! But whoever did the handling and mecanics on this Z shouldn't be allowed within 10 yards of a tool set ! So i started scrounging scrap yards for bits & pieces and ended up with a shed full of z parts for my Z, i've even bought 2 z scrappies just to pick 'em clean and learn everything about how this car is assembled and works together. So 20 years ago i started work on my '73, but with kids & wife, the process slowed down to a crawl. Now the kids are adutls, living their own lives, and the Mrs is now my Ex, so i can now work on my z as i please. Last year it was diff/axles/bushings/suspension/bars this year tranny/hood/deck, heah, installing a vintage duck tail on the rr deck will be cool. Next year ? engine and ignition. Once the car feels like it should, then it will be time for it to look good. For the past 10 years, i've been busy restoring bikes , cars , snowmobiles and turning my 100 years old 18X36 stable into a superb back yard garage, 2 stories high; the 2nd floor used as storage of all Z parts. So here i am today. 48, with a wealth of knowledge about the Z, all the tools i'll ever need, a lifetime supply of parts, a spacious heated garage, and a new girlfriend who likes to tinker her own car, and good at it. So i ask you, my fellow Z'ers, does it come any better ? Now i just need to learn how to post pics. on this site.. Wab

greetings fellows Zders, first post here I have this nice '73 240z in need of tranny work, so i started working on it yesterday. I'm now to the stage where the shift forks need to be removed, but to my surprise, these are welded to the fork rods and can't be removed without grinding the welds first !! There is no mention of these welds in the factory shop manual. The trany is a 4 speed type B So, my question is: Are they supposed to be welded ? Do i need to re-weld them during re-assembly, has anybody seen this before ?? :stupid:
