Wish I could have such luck selling on eBay!
If and when someone does actually pay, I have a lot of "RARE" as most of the eBay ads say, Z parts to sell them!

Wish I could have such luck selling on eBay!
I included an embedded link to the eBay listing in the "'73 240Z at $8,600" part of my post... I also included the .PDF because I've found so many posts that referenced expired eBay listings, expired Craigslist ads, or other outdated URL's that were no long valid, etc. If somebody does a search a year from now and finds this post at least they can see what I was referring to and not get a broken link. But thanks for posting. I've got my eye on the 260.

I'm getting the "Itch" LOL
Some may have the cold and snow to deal with but living in the Bay Area 20~30 miles outside of San Francisco, the earthquake known as the "big one" may hit at any moment so sayeth the doom sayers and scientists. So.... I drive my Z every chance I get! I feel for anyone dealing with the cold and the snow. My first vehicle I bought brand new was 30 days old and parked across the street from my apartment outside of Chicago. A neighbor knocked on my door to tell me someone had hit it and took off. He said they had revved their engine at the stop sign and started fish tailing as they gained momentum. The just missed a couple of cars on my side of the street before careening over and hitting my pickup just past the drivers side door. The only sign of them was their tire tracks which were quickly disappearing in the snow on the street.... and of course my ripped open truck bed! So much for worrying about the "first scratch"... Unfortunately the neighbor didn't get a license plate or make/model of the hit and run vehicle. The driver was never found. I was in the Military at the time and was glad to get orders back to Calif. 6 months later. I was more than ready to leave the cold and snow! I don't miss driving in it or shoveling it on a daily basis but I do occasionally drive up to the foothills and play in the snow...

Wish I could have such luck selling on eBay!
'73 240Z at $8,600 and climbing but still hasn't met the reserve price... I know 240's go for more than 260's so I'd be more than happy to get $6,000 for my low mileage (72k) early 260Z. Maybe I should ask this guy to list it for me. eBay Motors_ Datsun _ Z-Series (item 190200419674 end time Fe...pdf

Do you think your car had Led Zeppilin played in it?
Sounds like you bought it from "a little old lady from Pasadena who only drove it to church on Sundays"... And maybe to MADD on Saturdays...

Fumes are Killing me
I bought a '74 260Z a few months ago from the 2nd owner who bought it from the original owner one year prior. He told me that she had informed him that there would be gas fumes if the tank was filled. Not that I doubted the information but I got tired of stopping so often for a half tank of gas. I decided to go for a full tank and just as advertised, there is a fuel smell in the cabin. The gaskets, taillight, hatch, etc. are original but since it's not an exhaust smell and only happens on filling the tank I'm betting those are not the issue. 240znz posted: Exhaust fumes or fuel fumes? If fuel smell, then start checking all the hoses on the fuel tank especially around the expansion tank behind the right hand hatch inner guard cover. Guess I'll start looking where 240znz suggests.

I get so tired of this -ebay listing
I bought my '73 on eBay in 2005 and to the seller's credit the car was pretty much as advertised. I flew from the Bay Area to Burbank, CA. and drove it home. I know more about these cars now then I did then but do not feel even the slightest bit of buyer's remorse. I guess I was lucky. Since then I found a '74 260Z on Craigslist in the next town over. I bought it to drive while I finish working on my 240 & plan on selling it when the 240 is back on the road. I've been bitten by the "while I'm at it" bug so progress isn't being made as fast as I'd like... I would have been suspicious of this ad back in 2005 and am suspicious of it now. Living in Calif., I don't think I'd buy a Z that wasn't from CA or AZ anyway. Just my 2cents... eBay Motors_ Datsun _ Z-Series (item 260190369499 end time De...pdf

SU Carb Choke Hardware Needed
Now that you mention it... the "original choke cable hold-down bracket assemblies" sounds like just the parts you're describing Bruce. I'm keeping the carbs so do not want to part with those.

SU Carb Choke Hardware Needed
I'll look for your other thread but was wondering why you went that route as I'm considering going EFI on my '73 with an L28 ZX engine. I have choke cables from a 72. My 73 choke cables go out the passenger side and over the valve cover. The 72's go through the firewall closer to the driver and do not go over the valve cover. If the '72 style are what you're looking for let me know & make an offer. I also have a console from the 72 and a console from a 71 that have the choke lever on them. Regards, Roy

Outer rear control arm bushings help
Here is E.S.' response to my question about the shells: What he believes we now know... <<<<<< Reply from E.S. >>>>>> Kevin Lake <email address here> to Me date Nov 1, 2007 9:14 AM subject RE: Outer shells with #3062 poly outer bushings? As we had talked about on the phone I beleive you do remove the shell for that application THANK YOU And my response to his response: Kevin, Thanks. I sent the email message before calling. I was pleasantly surprised to not have to through some "run-around" automated system AND to get the answer to my question. FYI & Food For Thought... There seems to be others at http://www.classiczcars.com as confused as I was. It would be extremely helpful to those of us with these older Z cars if the specific instructions for the outer bushings were included in the package. Replacing bushings is something a lot of us will only do once so having the details would save us time and frustration. Thanks & regards, Roy

Selling on eBay
In 2005 when I decided it was time to find a 240. I looked on Craigslist, eBay and every other place I could think of. There were a couple on CL that were promising - at first. Then I saw two on eBay that I wanted. One was asking too much or the bidding got to high, I forget which. I bought the one I did because the car was in the same state about 500 miles away. I figured I could get my deposit back if the car didn't match up to the description. From this thread it looks like I lucked out. I gave a $500 deposit and paid the rest in cash when I picked up the car. The owner picked me up at the airport. I inspected the car, paid the balance and drove the car to Northern Calif. I've learned a lot over the past couple of years. Knowing what I know now I would have just been patient and found one local but I'm still glad I bought the one I did. It's too bad there are so many jerks and scammers in the world.

Rear Control arm bushings!
But it's always better to make sure your common sense matches up to someone else's common sense when it comes to something as important as suspension. As many problems as have been reported with E.S.' quality control I would use caution and get a second opinion before I left parts out when instructions, even though they are generic, say to use them. I called E.S. and verified that yes in this application the shells are removed and not used. Just my 2cents...

They said this was the "exception to the rule" and not to use a shell. There went about an hour or two...

Outer rear control arm bushings help
I'll apologize for the lengthy post in advance... I'm installing an E.S. poly bushing kit on a '73 240Z. Okay so I thought the shells/sleeves were part of the arm too. After finding this thread I was able to persuade them to leave their home of 35 years but believe me they didn't want to leave! What this thread doesn't indicate is whether a new outer shell/sleeve was used. It appears like it wasn't but it Energy Suspensions Instructions states: If your new bushing kit does not have new shells and/or sleeves, you must reuse the original shells and /or sleeves. Do not press out shells. Leave shells in arm. Remove rubber and sleeve from shell. Cam Bolt style Bushing's use a special washer on each end of the sleeve. To remove these washers, use a small punch through center of sleeve and tap lightly. When new washers are not supplied in kit, originals must be reused. Which seems to indicate that the original shell should have been used since the kit doesn't contain one. If that's the case then the bushings will not fit and now I have to find a new set of sleeves and get bushings that actually fit the sleeves. No wonder another forum member decided to buy a rubber kit. I called the local Nissan Dealer and after the Part's guy laughed at me he said he would try to find it in the "system". I think Black Dragon carries rubber but I'd like to use what I already paid for. If I look at the Master Parts list available at: http://www.atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/bushings/240zbushingkitlist.gif I have eight poly bushings with the number 3062 on them which corresponds to the parts list for the kit: The 7-3104 Read control arm bushing set contains: Outer (hub end) 8 - 3062 bushings (hub end) 4 - 15.10.70.39 (.750" O.D. x 1.630" sleeve) Inner 4 - 3078 bushings (inner rear position) 4 - 15.10.49.39 (1.187" O.D. x 1.0005" I.D. x 2.450" sleeve) 4 - 3077 bushings (inner front position) 4 - 15.10.95.39 (1.187" O.D. x 1.005" I.D. x 2.062" sleeve) It says to use 17019 installation instructions which I found at: http://www.energysuspension.com/pdf_instruc/17019.PDF As I mentioned before, their instructions confuse me though. Do I not use an outer shell/sleeve and use the bushings I have OR... Should I be using an outer sleeve and if so where do I get one as I had to cut the originals to get them out. This would mean that the part number # 3062 outer bushings are wrong for this application. I found these threads as well. They were helpful but didn't answer my question... Wacky Tach
I found a 240Z at a local junkyard. It was a '72 but someone had stashed some parts in the hatch area, one of which was a long pig tailed fuse block with I believe to be a 25410-E4600 Assy Fuse Block that fits "Up-To" 12/70. I also saw a steel fan and remembered reading something about the earlier 240's having them but I was so busy pulling parts from the '72 that I didn't grab it. If you have a pic or two please post and if it is indeed a steel fan from a Z I'll snag it for you if you want it. It's yours for whatever it costs: junkyard price + shipping costs. Cheers

Black Pearl on CL
I don't know enough about these limited edition 280's to say anything about them. I'm not interested in it myself, preferring the earlier 240's... but thought that perhaps a member of the forum might be. As always: "caveat emptor". This site is a great place to gain the knowledge needed before making a purchase. Thanks for sharing a more knowledgeable opinion. Regards, Roy
