  1. Yes, from the 70's......but not to cover anything up. It's quite a well preserved original Z. Not much required to get it to 100%
  2. Jamie.....We tried to buy it forever....... I finally gave up and already have the Safari Gold 71 now. How much principle can someone have? By the way, I still need to get by to see your "stuff". Maybe after X mas. Happy Holidays!!! Guy
  3. The difference between men and boys is "the price of their toys!" Beautiful car.......beautifully done. My friend did one with an RB26........Blazing torque and acceleration. Wish I could put Blakt's car in my garage. Unfortunately builders who do everything first class rarely recoupe their dollar investment, and that doesn't even include the 2,000 hours of labor, but most people who do nice resto's get most of the satisfaction "doing it right!" When's your birthday Brandon?
  4. I bought new clips from Black Dragon last year......they list them as brake hose lock plates and brake hose lock springs.......I bought the rubber blocks from Jim Frederick....Carl could probably tell you if he still has some. Guy

I've done it on all 5 of my engines(no problem).......a little tapping on the sides of the towers with a rubber mallet helps.......tighten down in small doses and check the torque chart....it may be a max of 12 ft. lbs.

You sure do need to come out Brian....the new L24 in the 73 is a real ball to drive.....It really sings at RPM........ I'm working out there most every weekend.... Sundays are good 'cause deer season's in and the rockfish are starting to move into the Chesapeake!!

Thanks for posting the pics Brian........I want to get by and see the progress myself. Don't hesitate to call on me if you need help. As soon as Chuck gives me the OK on the new door handles, the old ones are yours at a price you'll appreciate......free. Guy

Ditto what Jon says.......and don't over-torque the cam tower bolts....... 10 to12 foot pounds max if my memory serves me correctly.
  9. Quote: "Five and Dime"....."Anyone as excited as I am?!! GT5"..........Evidently some thieves in Canada are!!!

Yes.....I've had head bolts stuck so bad from carbon build-up they had to be sent to a machine shop to be removed from the head. If the head bolts broke off up in the head, you won't be able to drive it off with the block of wood as Andrew mentioned (and I agree with), but you may be able to break it loose. Then pick it straight up if the bolts are up in the head. I'd be careful with a putty knife on an aluminum head (IMO).
  11. I must have installed mine on bass akwards!! :stupid:
  12. Arnie.....All you need to do is loosen the forward muffler clamp and rotate the muffler to what ever position suits you.......It didn't come with instructions, so I'm not sure how they recommend you hang the muffler. Those turbo mufflers sure do breathe good!
  13. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=40158 I installed the same system on my 73 last weekend. I was amazed at the fit and finish. Everything bolted right up and the hangers were in the exact right spots(nice system). I did have to take the muffler to a shop to open up the end so that it would slide over the exhaust pipe. The shop did it for free......2 minutes. I also think it's a tad bit loud, but might have a resonator installed to tone it down just a bit! I took some pics......see above. Guy
  14. I don't think he's ever going to come back and let us know what his compression tests results were...........guess we'll have to wait for next weeks episode!!! :stupid:

Have you installed the proper bearing collar for the pressure plate that you installed? Example: 240Z pressure plate requires 240Z collar.......280Z pessure plate requires 280Z collar etc. I'm not sure what the difference is in slave cylinders, but they should be matched......240Z pressure plate, collar and slave cylinder etc. etc.
  16. Rich......It's so nice to see these old cars come back to life.......You do an outstanding job!!!!! Beautiful work!!!! By the way....you can buy the brake booster stickers from Mike at Banzai, along with most other stickers. Guy
  17. It's marked P30 on the block with the oil pick-up in the front. The factory had to have painted the block that minty-green color....... no one in their right mind would have painted it that color! I'm wondering what stroke the crank is.......do I have the early L24 rods or the L26-L28 rods. I may only get a spare front cover and a spare set of 9mm rod bolts out of the deal. OZ .....what will it cost me to ship it to Australia? You can have it for one kangaroo steak! :bulb:
  18. The engine block is painted a mint metalic green.....I'm just wondering what parts I can salvage if any......would like to use the crank, rods front cover etc.for spares......the block looks OK.....no water erosion. The oil pan is gone.......maybe the whole works should go to "Mt. Trashmore"!! Won't be the first bad investment I've made.......won't be the last! :stupid: :stupid: :stupid:
  19. Anyone know for sure? What crank and rods were installed?
  20. I recently bought a short block from a private seller (he said it was from a 72 240Z). You can't have too many spare parts right? I didn't even unwrap it till today. I noticed it looked like factory notching of the exhaust valves on the block, so I assumed it was an L26......right? Wrong......upon closer examination, the serial numbers do read L24, but the number is 321,302!!! I thought the L24 Z engines stopped at 172,732. What in Hell is this motor? Guy

You bet Jeff.....Anytime I can get an absolutely rust free straight Z with original paint, I feel like I'm ahead of the game. The interior was perfect except for that auto shifter. We took care of that! Hope to see you in Savannah next year. Guy
