Total Restoration Project. 71
This thread will be dedicated to the restoration of my fathers 71 240z. He bought the car last month, but we have been trying to buy this very car for 13 years. It has been sitting un-driven since 1979. I take a lot of pix, so by the end of this I am sure there will be hundreds of photos if not thousands. We are attempting to replace as many bolts as possible as well as removing all undercarriage components, blasting and or cleaning and reassembling with new components or at least painting the old with semi gloss black Poly-urethane through a detail gun. The interior is almost perfect except for the seats which will be re-upholstered. 1 very small crack in the dash. The console, heater control panel, diamond vinyl, headliner etc are like new. We are starting under the car first. The paint is a dark olive green which is as close as the original factory rust prevention spray color as we could get. <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/460289856/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/177/460289856_a4b850a3cd_o.jpg" width="640" height="480" alt="IMG_0826" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/460289884/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/187/460289884_fdbf4bf7d5_o.jpg" width="640" height="480" alt="IMG_0827" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/460289886/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/218/460289886_78ce5e3679_o.jpg" width="640" height="480" alt="IMG_0830" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/460289888/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/226/460289888_1055c33c68_o.jpg" width="640" height="480" alt="IMG_0858" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/460289902/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/216/460289902_9a69f9cb7c_o.jpg" width="480" height="640" alt="IMG_0886" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/460289936/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/190/460289936_bbc7e7a2ce_o.jpg" width="480" height="640" alt="IMG_0889" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/460301181/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/198/460301181_262b700d6d_o.jpg" width="640" height="480" alt="IMG_1058" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/460301191/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/223/460301191_eb78c1521e_o.jpg" width="640" height="480" alt="IMG_1059" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/460301195/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/243/460301195_6b9c60df2f_o.jpg" width="640" height="480" alt="IMG_1060" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/460301197/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/246/460301197_690ac801e0_o.jpg" width="640" height="480" alt="IMG_1063" /></a>

Just an update, The rear subframe/suspension has started going back in. We are pulling everything in the engine bay/ crossmember and front suspension this weekend and will be updating pics. Does anyone know of a source for new metal brake lines for the bay?

Tokico HP - Z is two inches taller
I just ran across this. When my pops and I lowered his car and put it all back together, it sat up higher. Like a truck. We used Eiback Progressive rate springs and it turns out we had installed them upside down. With the Eibachs, the writing on the coil should be right side up. When we realized we screwed up and then flipped them, the ride was finally lower

Thanks. BTW, we are working on getting the Username to Diseazd. Waiting on moderator approval. The car will be silver, but will be painted right, removing all the interior except the dash. The car will never be sold, so original color won't be an issue. This 71 will be lowered an inch, and upgraded with 4 piston discs in the front and a disc conversion for the back in the future as well as sway bars. Any suggestion as far as bushings. My pops got all Urethane. We don't want it to be too stiff. The adjustabel shocks will be set on soft. 5 speed, and possibly power steering upgrades are planned as well. For the exterior, there will be 16" panasports like the green car and the sating grey BRE front spoiler to match the rear tailingt panel and front grill. Full engine rebuild with triple carbs and a mild cam.

Updated pics of the restoration We cleaned up the bottom after removing the rear assembly. Sand blasted all the suspension and drivetrain and painted them black with Urethane and some flatener to get a semi gloss finish. We then painted the floor boards and under carriage an army green to resemble the color of the factory rust prevention. Also Urethane. New Eiback springs and Tokico adjustables as well as all the rear assembly with new bolts will be reinstalled this week. <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/451279958/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/228/451279958_80a3e4bc9e_o.jpg" width="640" height="480" alt="IMG_1122" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/451279962/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/219/451279962_110edbfbe8_o.jpg" width="640" height="480" alt="IMG_1189" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/451279970/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/236/451279970_46a15a1b1a_o.jpg" width="640" height="480" alt="IMG_1191" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/451279986/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/209/451279986_01c90396a6_o.jpg" width="640" height="480" alt="IMG_1221" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/451279988/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/176/451279988_1c3f185138_o.jpg" width="640" height="480" alt="IMG_1222" /></a>

Suspension advice
So nada eh??? The options so far are Eibach, Tokico, or susp. tech. springs. Definately want adjustable shocks and would like to lower the car 1-1.5". With that said, we would like to keep the ride as comforatable as possible. The Eibach and tokico no adjustables ride pretty stiff with the 16" panasports. Other than using a spring/strut setup, what coilovers are the best and most comforatble? The car will never be raced

Pic request of Butterscotch Z's....... And our pix. Take a look!!!!!
Hello, I am new to the forum. I am 27 and my pops and I are working on a few Z's. He owns them all, but I do all the paint and mods and help with everything else. He has a 71 240z that he just purchased yesterday. I saw the car in someones yard 14 years ago and we have been trying to buy it ever since. It has been parked since 79 and still has the 79 inspection sticker. Oddly enough, as we found the title in the glove box..... The last owner purchased the car 3/22/74. We git it 3/22/74 33 years later to the day and 14 years since we started trying (although not to the day) It is almost perfect with 70k original miles. Practically untouched. His other car is a 72 lime green. Lowered with Eibach springs, Tokico shocks. 16" panasports, BRE front spoiler. We pulled the motor and rebuilt it with slight bore, new pistons, rings, bearings, new carbs, machined head, new valve springs, seats, ceramic coated manifolds etc. Followed up by 2 300zx's 1 non-turbo and one twin turbo. Less than 100k each and like new. Here are some pics of his cars and my E34 BMW <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/431883160/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/174/431883160_abef4c0885_o.jpg" width="640" height="480" alt="100_0394_4" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/431883152/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/162/431883152_adf1470cf5_o.jpg" width="640" height="480" alt="100_0379" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/431883147/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/158/431883147_94eba1548e_o.jpg" width="640" height="480" alt="100_0374" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/431882327/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/185/431882327_d7ecbcc729_o.jpg" width="640" height="390" alt="100_0315" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/431882317/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/178/431882317_06d91bd71b_o.jpg" width="640" height="480" alt="100_0251" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/431882321/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/146/431882321_e33bcd2525_o.jpg" width="640" height="480" alt="100_0253" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/431884072/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/167/431884072_62239a9041_o.jpg" width="639" height="368" alt="IMG_0457" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/431884069/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/156/431884069_3370b57fc4_o.jpg" width="640" height="480" alt="IMG_0455" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/431884066/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/182/431884066_b7e0e83d9e_o.jpg" width="640" height="480" alt="DSC02772" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/14049800@N00/431882333/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/157/431882333_11f12f0e4f_o.jpg" width="640" height="480" alt="100_0324" /></a>

Suspension advice
Hello, I am new to the forum. I have a 71 240z all original in immaculate condition as well as a 72 that has been fully restored. I lowered the 72 lime green with Eibach spings and Tokico shocks. I would like to do the same to the 71, but I feel the combo on the lime one is too stiff. What would you reccomend for lowering the car with a better ride? I was thinking adjustable shocks with suspension techniques springs. Any advice? Thanks BTW, is there a min. post requirement to post pix? I have 4 Z's total and have some great pix.
