Mitty Weekend
Steve....I hope you got a chance to meet Woody, Sam Neave and Greg Ira. Sam builds all the engines for the number 46 car plus Greg's, Woody's 240 and 280 race car. Those guys are a trip....totally nuts! I almost booked for the Mitty, but too much else happening.....post more pics if you can. Guy Sounds a little bit like Italy? Sam built motor. IMG_0824.MOV

New KYB Rear Struts - Too Soft?
I just installed new Tokicos in my 73 47,000 original mile Z. When you pushed down on each corner, the car was soft and bouncy. I figured they must be the original blown shocks. When I removed the struts, I was surprised that they were loaded with KYB's .......just my personal opinion that the Tokicos are a better shock for our Z cars.....you'll live with your decision for the life of your car....Tokicos ain't that much more.

Mitty Weekend
If you get a chance Steve, stop by and take a look at my good friend Woody Staub's number 22 car. He'll probably be with Greg Ira too. Guy

Distributor shaft gear
Jeff....I remember back in the 70's there was a problem with the worm gear ( the gear that slides onto the crank nose and meshes with the teeth on the distributor sprocket) under harsh racing conditions. The two it seems were incompatible and caused wear under race conditions. The solution was a bronze worm gear that you could get from Nissan (NLA). I bought them for most of my engines before they became NLA. Seems to me that someone was making them again.....try googling them or maybe eBay. If not, I would replace all 3 items .....oil pump, worm gear and sprocket and go at it again.

RIP DEANNA
So sorry to hear about Deanna.....we lost Cheyenne 9 years ago....I miss her still.....we bought Millie...another worthless flea bag that we are totally in love with....a shame dogs have such a short life span....I feel your pain.

Front end overhaul
All finished with the 73......new shocks, springs, ball joints, tie rod ends, wheel bearings, Wilwoods and bushings. I really like the way she sits and handles with the new Eibachs.....car drives like new. Now the car is as fun to stop as it is to go. If anyone needs help with any of the above improvements, feel free to ask.

Front end overhaul
Actually, they are lighter than stock....the calipers especially.
-
Front end overhaul
Not sure about that Cliff....maybe someone else can answer that question. My guess is you need to match the larger caliper to a wider vented rotor. These calipers are huge, as is the rotor. It's a simple install.....Xmas is coming up....put these on your list and tape it to the fridge.
-
Front end overhaul
All together.....I had to put new grease caps on to finish it off. All that's left is to bleed those big calipers and button it up.

Front end overhaul
Wow....At first glance, I thought that was a long neck Bell's Two Hearted IPA ( not a jack) in front of the brake rotor. Looks good Cliff....but, disappointed that it was a jack.
-
Front end overhaul
Only on the vented rotors that are angled (curved vanes).
-
Front end overhaul
I appreciate your input......yes, I was careful to install the discs with the vanes angled back....amazing how much air flow moves through the vanes just spinning them by hand. These brakes really cool themselves....not important for street, but critical for racing.
-
Front end overhaul
Jason240z.....Rotors are correct....vanes angled back....sucks heat away from center of the brake rotor.........

[2017] What Did You Do To/with Your Z Today?
Love your car.....cool trophy too.
-
Front end overhaul
Driver side.....Installed new tie rod, bearings and races....cleaned up and painted. As soon as the machine shop removes the old shock, I'll install the new shock, Eibach, ball joint and Wilwoods....bleed em and see how she sits and stops.

Not Z but it's a hard to past up the opportunity
Wow......What was he thinking? Ramming speed grannyknot!

at wits end
TDC compression stroke....is the little half moon exactly at 11:30 facing forward? Also, I'm sure you know the rotor rotates counter clockwise......not clockwise.
-
at wits end
TDC compression stroke? Big difference.... like Chuck said.....first two cam lobes pointing up when piston is on TDC (compression stroke).
