Question about block/head milling for streetable upgrade
Seek out a professional familiar with the process to build the head. There is so much more to it than just shaving .080 inches......there are shims, different valves and with a different cam, rocker geometry problems as well as spring heights.

Hls30-24140
Bill.....Yes.....This Sunday in Richmond.....Eiji's coming down......come on down too. The 3:54 with ZX 5 speed turns 2600rpm at 60 miles an hour. It feels like a great combo to me.....if you've got one already, give it a try.

Sue Bonk said he only had a total of 10 rain soaked practice laps. Amazing!

4.11 Rear end was fun for a while. Keeping eyes peeled for a 3.90 R180 though: I feel like an 18 wheeler shifting gears at red lights. Bill....You might want to try your 3:54 ........I love mine with the ZX 5 speed......don't forget to change the speedometer drive gear in the tranny so your speedometer reads accurately. It's a 10 minute swap....held in by one bolt. Guy

Pinion angles( driveline operating angles)
Just amazes me how critical those angles are.....a quarter inch spacer between the mount and tranny caused the problem. I wonder how many have a vibration caused by this and don't ever figure it out?

Pinion angles( driveline operating angles)
I just put a 1983 ZX 5 speed in my 73. I had restored the tranny cross member on the tranny I removed and it had a brand new tranny mount and a 1/2 inch spacer (between the tranny mount and the tranny), so I used that crossmember, tranny mount and spacer. When I test drove it, everything was fine except when I stopped and made a hard right turn. At that point it made an irritating vibration noise on acceleration that lasted a few moments......kinda made you want to throw up! I kept driving it and it kept sending me weird vibrating signals that something wasn't right. I took it back to the house, raised it on the lift and proceeded to take off the crossmember, mount, and removed the spacer. Went back without the spacer......on the 2nd test drive, everything was perfect. A half inch spacer bunged up the works.....amazing how critical pinion angles to smooth function of the drive train are.Peter.....get rid of the GM mount....it's your problem. Steve keep using spacers to raise or lower the rear of the tranny until you get it right. When you finally get the correct angle, you'll love your cars again.

Rear Seal
Right you are Blue......that's how you get smart....by doing stupid things! At least I was going to swap the tranny anyway. :stupid:

Rear Seal
Just finished the tranny swap......while I was at it, I pulled the clutch and flywheel. The seal was dry, but I replaced it anyway. When I was finishing everything up, I noticed a drip of oil coming from the bottom of the heater hose. I lowered the car and discovered a pinched gasket at the rear of the valve cover........wasn't the seal after all.

New engine
Went to work on the Z Doctor P79 head today. I geometried all the wipe patterns for the Isky Stage III cam and valve springs. All rockers centered out with .160 lash pads except 2 which were .150's. I use an old egg carton to keep everything in order. Hope to start reassembly soon.

Reproduction tail lamp lens and trim
No problem....I just ordered a pair of the chrome strips....$200.00 with shipping....we'll see how they look. Anyone know how to remove the lenses from the housing? I think there was a post on that subject ......seems it involves heat, but not sure. Can you remove the old strip without removing the lense from the housing? Most of my lenses are in good shape....just the chrome strip that goes bad. Any help would be appreciated.

replacing callipers on 73 240
Chris.....I'm not sure, but if I recall, they were from an early Toyota Fourrunner (maybe 1984)......If I were you, I'd get Conedodger's (Rob's)friend to rebuild your stock units as mentioned in post number 2 (Willoughby Z). That guy does an amazing job, and a rebuilt set of stock Z calipers will work as well as the Toyoshimo's with no cutting required. Unless you're racing, replacing the rear drums with discs is a major job (PITA). I'd stick with drums. IMO

Rear Seal
I'm referring to the crank seal.... Not the side seals.
