License and Registration Please
Virginia is $25.00 fee and it's good for life. The car has to be over 25 years old. There is no personal property tax and no inspections of any kind required! Pretty awesome. I can register the 90 300ZX in 3 years as an antique.

Painting engine
A trick I use when painting blocks.........If you want to mask off the freeze plugs, use an old freeze plug or a pill bottle the size of the freeze plug. Get a roll of wide masking tape and trace the 8 circles (the size of the freeze plugs). Cut 'em out with scissors and press them over the freeze plugs. It's a hell of a lot easier than trying to mask them off with little strips of tape.

Reaction disc
Found a reaction disc.....thanks PJOE. I removed the two nuts holding the brake master cylinder to the master vac.....then pulled the master cylinder back 4 to 5 inches. I shined a light in the master vac and sure enough, the reaction disc was absent. I epoxied the disc to the adjustable plunger and pushed it back in. It's raining, so I haven't test drove her yet, but there's absolutely no question that the disc is what made the brakes work a little funny. Hope this helps someone else.

Gas tank rehab.
Wow......The Muratic acid cleaned it up like new......the rust was so minor and cleaned up so good, I think I would have run it without the sealer. IMO, I wouldn't use a second coat. What does everyone else think? Muratic acid is great for cleaning parts for plating.....full strength for 60 seconds or less.

Gtom.....The 71(920 gold car) is running Eibach springs, Tokiko adjustable shocks and Willwood front disc brakes. The wheels are Panasport 16 inch "0" offset with 205 55 16 KDW II tires. I've collected every 240Z year.....don't think the wife would let me collect every color. Green, gold, silver and white is probably it!

Yes......That is correct. I'm running Ground Control Coilovers with adjustable camber plates, so I can tuck them under the rear fenders. I would suggest running 205-55-16's.......I run those on my 71 and they look and work great.IMO

Angularity of the driveshaft, differential and u-joints on an early Z vs later models
To fix the angular problem, you'll need to get a 72 diff hanger (curved not straight), a longer driveshaft from a 72, flip your mustache bar, and install a 72 front diff mount (or flip the one you've got 180 degrees).

Who's 280Z is this on Griot's Garage?
Just a guess Steve.....you're probably right....could push $100,000.00. It won the big trophy too......You won't have to compete against him next ZCON! You saw it.....It was perfect.

Who's 280Z is this on Griot's Garage?
Right John......He placed first.....Eiji was 2nd. Beautiful car....absolutely perfect. My guess is he probably had a minimum of $50,000.00 invested. I believe he was from Oregon.

valve cover finish removal
If you blast the valve cover, you should bead blast.....not sand blast. Also, if you bead blast the cover, make sure it is tightly sealed so no contaminant can enter the cover. I screw mine down with the gasket installed to a piece of plywood using power driven wood screws......tape off the vent tube. The last thing an engine needs is grit!

lash pads
As mentioned.....Dave Rebello told me that the stock valve retainers would accomodate up to a .220 lash pad. When I used .160 lash pads in my last build, using Dave's springs, they just made me feel uncomfortable sticking above the hat of the retainer. I used Isky springs and retainers instead.....made me feel better.

lash pads
If you're using a reground performance cam with over .460 lift, you should use performance valve springs (stock springs could stack). Dave Rebello sells new outter springs that you can use with stock inner springs and stock retainers (handles up to .500 lift). He says you can go as high as .220 lash pads with your stock retainers. I personally don't like to see the pads (.175) that high on the retainers (makes me nervous). I use Isky inner and outter springs with their retainers......the pads sit well in that set-up. IMO

Yes.....I screwed it down to a piece of plywood with a gasket using wood screws so nothing could get inside, taped ofF the vent pipe and bead blasted the valve cover. Then used acid etching primer, followed up with VHT silver paint. Mag wheel paint works great also. The carbs and intake are Z Therapy.
