Oil Pan Gasket Replacement
Where did you get the Victor/Reinz gasket? It sounds like a nice gasket. Do you have pics? I usually use gasket adhesive on the pan side. You can spray it on the gasket and lay the pan on the gasket, adjusting the holes with a tooth pick until it sets up........Then you can get a few bolts started with the help of a friend. I installed mine without removing anything, or even raising the engine.

Oil Pan Gasket Replacement
Which gasket are you using? The Nissan factory cork gasket, or the competition gasket? If you use the comp gasket, it's really important to take Pop's Z's advice. The cork is a lot more forgiving. I don't use any RTV and I use cork......never had a problem.

does this look bad?
Only looks bad if you like steering with one front wheel attachedLOL........replace the tie end ASAP. Don't screw around with something as important as tie rod ends! IMO

Kia Sportage weatherstip rocks!
I've got a friend who installed Vintage Rubber door seals in his 71 restoration. He said it was easy to install, fit perfect, and the doors closed perfectly. I saw the installation and it looked awesome. We're lucky to have VR take an interest in the Z cars and to make such a high quality product. We should try to reward that with our purchases so they stay around as a source for our Datsuns.

What is it? Series I or Series II?
Agreed - Eiji is a great person to work with. ..............and he'll build you the most beautiful motor (right down to his signature laquer coated freeze plugs) you've ever seen! Eiji is a purist......he loves the "L" series motor.

What is it? Series I or Series II?
Trannies are the same dimensions.....If you wanted to use a longer driveshaft, you'd have to use a 72 mustache bar, a 72 diff mount and the 72 diff hanger. This moves the diff back to correct the angular halfshafts to do away with the so called vibration of the early Z's. When you install a B tranny, it's exactly the same size as your A, so the driveshaft you have is good to go with either tranny. However, you're going to have a pain in the butt trying to make the B fit in your tranny tunnel and console.

What is it? Series I or Series II?
No problem Zedy......use what you have in regards to your driveshaft....it'll work with either tranny. Guy

What is it? Series I or Series II?
Ditto that.....my 73 is the best driver, but had to drop another engine with round tops and a few other goodies to make it something special. I love 'em all......miss seeing your red avatar. Guy

What is it? Series I or Series II?
Thanks Arne.....always learning something new. Which brings us to what is the best Z to own. My conclusion is even though the early Series I and II's are the most collectable, the Series III is a much better Z to drive with just a small amount of engine mods to bring it up to snuff.

What is it? Series I or Series II?
Hi Carl......Thanks for clearing this up for me.......I thought there was Series I and Series II.......never knew the 72 and 73 were considered Series III. Now it makes sense. This is the Safari Gold car I brought to ZCON....HLS30 29,832........ A Series II. Regards. Guy

What is it? Series I or Series II?
My May 1971 240Z came with the early console and "A" tranny, vertical defrost but no tailgate vents. I have the early angular half shafts and straight mustache bar and short (early) driveshaft. The hole for the shifter is the early opening. I don't have the 240Z on the pillars. The steering wheel is the late type with holes. The engine came with the early E31 head. The tool compartments are late type in the back with metal door hatches. Many have told me this is a transition Z. Carl says January 1971 was the last Series I month, but what would you call this car.....Series I or Series II? It certainly has a Series I drive train, the body is half I and half II. Someone please tell me what to call it ! Guy

Put that to rest. Thanks Steve

Clutch recommendations
Steve.....Don't you think a 9 lb. Flywheel is going to be a pain to drive in traffic.......the light flywheels rev quicker, but aren't they a chore in stop and go traffic? What's your thoughts after driving both. Just a thought. Guy

'71 240z plus '78 parts car on craigslist
Hi Carl.....I have a May 71 with the early console, angular half shafts/ short drive shaft, no vents in the tailgate, vertical defrost, E 31 head, "A" tranny and no 240z on pillars........all original. I understand that it's a transitional car. What is it? A series one or series two? It's the gold car I brought to ZCON. Guy

Clutch recommendations
I use the stock L24 clutch and pressure plate with my fully modded L28 engines.......no problem! Make sure you use the L24 collar and clutch arm off of your current tranny, or if you use the new 5 speed collar and clutch arm, use an L28 clutch and pressure plate.

Advantage of F54 over N42 block?
Eiji just installed a 9 lb. Flywheel on a his 280 driver on my lift a couple weeks ago. He went back with the stock clutch. With stock, you know what fits with what. KISS is a good practice. You won't need a high performance clutch with what you're building IMO, but ask Eiji.
