[2018] What Did You Do To/with Your Z Today?
I’m a big fan of your period correct American Libre wheels. In the early 70’s, people would notice all Z’s, but when one came by lowered, front and rear BRE spoilers and a set of Libre wheels (made famous by Morton and Brock) and an aftermarket exhaust that sounded like Road Atlanta, it made them want to go out and buy one. Nothing wrong with a well restored Z with skinny tires and hubcaps, but what gets my juices flowing is the stuff that makes you feel like you ARE John Morton. IMO Zup, keep those Libres .......they are period correct.

What color are you going to powder coat those valve covers Brandon?

[2018] What Did You Do To/with Your Z Today?
Brandon lent me his steamer. You steam the hell out of an upper corner.....then start a peel with a razor.....pull down on the corner until you get 4 or 5 inches to pull on, then you can rip the whole section off cleanly. Use concentrated amonia to clean up the residue. All five windows took me a total of 30 minutes. My guess is you want the car as warm as possible....my garage is heated, but you could heat the interior up with the car heater for 10 minutes first.

Calling All SU Experts
I agree with Mark.....if you are getting continuous flow to rear carb, the only other variable is a restriction in the route from the fuel rail to the carb. Just had a friend that had the same problem.....new filter in banjo fitting solved the problem. He had just had his gas tank lined at a radiator shop. The red (twizzler looking) liner was dissolving and building up in his filter.

Deja Vu: 1971 Restoration
Rich.....Wow....facts of life....restoring a Datsun 240Z correctly is very, very expensive. The customer got a bargain, and I’m sure your labor costs charged were nowhere close to what time (and knowledge) went into the Resto. What the public doesn’t understand is that when a Z goes across the auction block, they sell (with a few exceptions) for less than has been invested. Two things stick out......start with a rust free, straight car (pay up for the right car), and pay up for the paint and body work. Your attention to detail is incredible! The engineer in you is apparent (Fluid Mech and Thermodynamics made me switch majors at Georgia Tech). These cars are so intoxicating......( everyone on this forum knows that). You certainly know that too.....You didn’t do this restoration for money, you did it because you are crazy about these cars......I am too! Congrats to you and the customer who got a real bargain. Guy

Can't believe you did all that work for someone else......wish I had friends like you....no matter what you charged (and I'm sure it wasn't enough)! When do you start your white car?

Stroker 3.1
Chickenman........I've Changed my mind from ITB's to Mikunis.......just too expensive when you add everything up. Guy

Stroker 3.1
.......and a twitching wallet (LOL). You really better love the ITB’s ( and I’m sure they are awesome). The head had to have $2500.00 worth of port work to match the ITB intake. Add that to the $10,000.00 for the total set up and labor. But, the real killer was if something happens, it’s a totally computerized set up.....no clue what to do to fix it....cold feet. Heck, all but one of my Z’s still have points! Guess carbs are what I understand.....and at more than half the price, easier to choose.

Stroker 3.1
Eiji has started.....a new Stroker “hatched” this weekend. Who else would keep you updated with photos.....I wouldn’t trust anyone else with my engine. Note notches in block.
-
Stroker 3.1
The car is a blast to drive.....no dyno yet....when it snows, I give it 4 rains before I drive to clear any road salts. We are in the process of building another stroker for the green 72. Eiji will put Mikunis on this motor.

......a beautiful car AND a beautiful wife. pazt2prezent.....hang around old boy.....you won’t believe the good info on this forum....it takes a lot of personalities to form a forum. Some can irritate, but they sure know their stuff. Zedhead can be a D***head sometimes (lol), but he’ll find an answer to your problems. Hang around a while....I think you’ll fit right in. After all.....they are great little cars....that’s what it’s all about!

Guess you could say "if the factory put it in , we should" IMO Most of the Z's after 45 years don't have it in there anyway.....dealers choice.

Spark Plug, Compression, Gearing, and Power Feedback
If you are going to pull the head, go back with a better head IMO, and flat tops if they are dished. Don't go Stage II, have Isky grind you a Stage III.....you won't be sorry.

Spark Plug, Compression, Gearing, and Power Feedback
Without smog equipment, my cars are happier running 17 degrees advance at idle (1000 rpm). The 73 E88 head isn’t your best choice for a performance head (large chambers, small cam and a small intake valve.......low compression).....does the N42 block run dished pistons? If so, that means even lower C/R. Also, you could check your air fuel ratio on your triple setup. As far as the chain marks, you could go to the number 3 timing hole on your cam sprocket and see if that compensates for a tired chain, or better still install a new chain. Never easy when you don’t know what a previous owner did to the engine.
