  1. Could the balance tube not be doing it's job? When I was running SU's I had taken mine out and inspected - it's couldn't hurt at this time.......offer still stands on the previous post I had a few pages back if it could help eliminate things................
  2. On your linkages be sure when you take them apart get some penetrating oil and spray each of the threaded ends, with a metal brush work the oil into the threads and work the adjusting nut so each of your links can be easily adjusted. When reassembling - snug up all your joints (including the firewall to the throttle pedal) so get as much slop out as you can. That is about all you can do to clean up and re-work the adjustments from the pedal to the carb. With all the adjustments and ball links - that is how the slop gets developed - all Z's have throttle surge due to the linkages (or at least 99 out of 100). It's been a problem since the original design. The throttle cable is a complete correction - one cable from the pedal to the carb - best of luck with your project.
  3. To each their own - I've had both and will not go back to the linkage.......have you tried the throttle cable? If you have not, then you do not know....and if you still have the rear end clunk there is a proven fix for that as well - fortunately I don't have linkage slop or rear end clunk........
  4. If you want to get rid of that throttle surge and linkage slop, give this a try - easy mod and silky smooth throttle advance. http://www.srbymichael.com/manufacturers/lokar/lokar-throttle-kick.shtml
  5. Ordered a AutoMeter 3878 Wideband Gauge with O2 sensor - this will be a great addition for finding a few more horsepower !! http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ATM-3878/
  6. ...........as always when working with gasoline be sure to use a well vented area - gas fumes linger on the ground and build up (to your light switch or your garage door opener) - this is a job for outdoors when you are draining that tank. Have fun but be careful in your garage!
  7. Pulled both headlights - new gaskets - bulbs - adjusting screws and put her back in with new mounting screws as well - waiting for spring and no salt on the roads! Off to the next project.
  8. Dave - Two great looking cars in your "garage" - get the Lokar kit for the Z with the Triple Webers and feel the difference - you'll be glad you!!
  9. Get a parts manual and order yourself from your local Nissan dealer - no shipping charges and cheaper parts - being an educated consumer is the only way to go. If you are not willing to educate yourself then the only choice you have (and not saying this directly to Ben's Z, but to anybody reading this) - is buy the item from the seller when you can find it at the buyers price. It's all about being an educated consumer!
  10. Steve- Be sure to review this thread - good stuff and not as much money as you think. I got my support bracket from Wolf Creek Racing. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?30584-Accelerator-linkage-fix-questions
  11. Lokar Throttle Cable - I would strongly recommend this modificaiton to anybody looking to remove the old linkage. Just attach to the gas pedal - through the fire wall - to the carb using the support - pretty straight forward install - no linkage slack at all - no linkage binding period. I'll never go back to the old linkage (I did keep the throttle linkage setup and the SU's, and they are in storage). Let me know if I can explain anything in more detail.
  12. My advise is to do away with the old linkage in it's entirety from the pedal to the carbs..........you'll be glad you did. Check out my garage for info. Just smooth acceleration from stop to go. No more jerking and dead spots in the linkage cause it's not there.
  13. Steve- Did you post a detail on this install - I would be interested in increasing my knowledge on the install..........let us know please.
  14. If I had your clock I would be reviving the thread as well - gotta love the Mikuni's with a little Rebello magic!! Keep us posted on how she works.
  15. Stephen - I just stumbled on your thread - I installed Mikuni's last year - you will not regret it at all if you opt to purchase - your engine will wake up and sing - it's a beautiful thing! When I was running my SU's I used only 3n1 oil for my pistons - never had any challenges at all. I believe I was setting my front and rear float levels at different settings though. I don't believe a float setting would cause popping - it would cause hesitation and sputtering - and sever lack of power (like going up a hill and running out of gas). I do have my SU's on a shelf in my garage - if you want to borrow them just pay for insurance and shipping (to and from) and feel free to use them to see if the challenge is your SU's. They are heavy and it may be expensive to ship but they were dead on with performance when I took them off and they are sitting on a shelf and have not been touched. Your call - feel free to PM me if I can assist any. My next purchase this spring is a O2 Sensor - I think it is a must for everybody.
  16. Be sure to look under the battery tray - you'll be glad you did.
  17. Jesse - Welcome to the club - I work out of Concord but live in Boone. Give me a shout sometime and head up to the twisty's - we have some great drivin' up here. There is a Z Club in the Charlotte area you may want to check into...........
  18. Welcome to the site - pull that header and send it to JetHot for refinishing - you'll be glad you did! http://www.jet-hot.com/
  19. Picked up my rear bumper from the chromers today - it looks better than new! I'm pretty stoked about it!
  20. OK - so reaching out to anybody that has a 1973 parts car that is interested in selling their Left rear bumper guard - my rear bumper is actually off a '73 and unknowing at the time of dismantling the left side rubber 85057-N3300 in none existent. If anybody has this part they would like to sell please PM me - this is the only rubber part on my rear bumper that I can not replace and just got the bumper from the chrome plating shop this morning. Thanks in advance!
  21. God forbid for anybody to use the "search" engine to assist with anything anymore...............I just don't understand! Half the fun is reading up on a topic and discovering 2 or 3 more answers to questions that were in the back of your mind.............crazy stuff!
  22. From one Z lover to another "welcome"!
  23. Interested in selling that old crate transmission that you recently acquired? PM me if so.
  24. Heading today to get the rear bumper re-chromed. Took the headlight assembly out yesterday and cleaned up the screws that adjust the headlights.
