  1. I agree with the plug reading - it it one of the tell all's that our cars will let us know - tune in those carbs and the plugs will look great - too lean or rich and the plugs don't lie............remember - the 3 front and 3 back plugs share the two carbs.
  2. George- Be sure to peel back those carpets on both floor boards and inspect for rust there - that area is just as prone for extensive rust damage as under the battery is. Be sure to inspect where the hatch meets the body around the latch - that area is prone for rusting as well. Wheel wells need to be inspected as well - also remove the spare tire (if it has one) and check that area too. I would mainly be looking for somebody else's project that they want to sell to begin another project - Be an educated buyer! If I was going to buy a "Z" here are a few of the things I would be looking for: What engine is in it = L24 / L26 / L28? What carbs are on it = round top / flat top/ triples / FI? What transmission = 4 or 5 speed? What rear end (that's a tough one to tell - use the search engine)? Do the lights work on the dash - and all around the car? Is the dash cracked - dash mat - dash cover? Look at the fuse box and see if there is any meltage? Original paint - or repaint - does the engine bay look correct? Does the car sit good - mash on each of the four corners to test suspension? Has the car had brake upgrades (front and rear)? Tire Wheel combo - is it what you are looking for? At this point most older "Z's" have had some kind of work done to them by the PO's. Take your time and get what you want - You can only expect what you inspect!! Good Luck tomorrow - I hope she is everything you and your father are looking for!
  3. Keith, Welcome to the site - be sure to use the search feature. Get some pics up when you can!
  4. George- Best of luck on your journeys - both college and travel!! Welcome!!
  5. It's not only the money that we are spending - it's the self reward that all of us get having the cars that we own and drive. It's a sence of pride that comes everytime we start our engine knowing it's not another Ford Mustang or Chev Camaro. Follow the above advise and get the best car you can afford on the front end - be sure to research as much as possible, know the trouble spots for rust, know what to look for with the engine and transmission. Don't buy on emotion (don't fall in love with the first Z you find) - buy educated! Good luck and keep us posted on your find.
  6. I looked at mine - thought about the salt and grime on the roads from the last snow storm knowing that each day is going to get a little longer and spring is another day closer!! Happy New Year to all!
  7. New custom made 240z kickpanels with speaker cut outs and matching Kenwood speakers that sound match my back one's! http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32386&page=3&highlight=kick+panel Hey Dave - I thought GM stopped producing hummers......
  8. Once you take your carbs apart be sure to do three things - research - research - research. You will need to make sure to adjust several settings - replace your float bowl gaskets - reset your floats and so forth. If your floats are set too high the fuel will come out of either your carb(s) or your overflow hose. If your floats are set too low your engine will not have any performance or loose torque and fuel at any random RPM. Be sure to do your homework before you start so you understand the process and what items to have on hand to get your setting finalized correctly. All this has been discussed in detail in the past along with the FSM............the joys of S.U.'s!!
  9. Give me a shout when you want to come up - due to the extreme salt on the roads in WNC I don't get the '72 or the '29 out until the springs rains have cleaned the roads off -
  10. Mark- I live in Boone - give me a shout this spring summer and drive up to the Western part of the state. We'll take that out on some back road twisty's!! Great pick and color! I know you are going to have a Merry Christmas!
  11. I just completed a complete rebuild - fattened up my cam - increased my compression and new pistons, rings, rods........ - repainted the engine bay - my first recommendation would be to call Dave Rebello and discuss your complete project with him - he has some crazzzzzzzzy knowledge on our engines and a proven track record on the race track. Make the call and get his input - he can give you some guidence on your head - pistons - rods - compression - sell you a few parts or a lot of parts - he knows his stuff.
  12. I had a '67 MGB-GT back in '75...........great little car with tons of fun!!
  13. The twisty's in the North Carolina mountains are some of the best in the world!!
  14. If any of those cars (new or used) are on the stealers lots on Jan 1st it's costing them inventory tax dollars. Hold themout for two weeks - get them on the hook and chain and they will beg you for the purchase the last calendar day of 2010.........all IMO! It's a different game when you have them and they don't have you! By the way - that Black Cherry is HOT!
  15. Fantastic deal - I'm sure she will go fast!
  16. Steve- Let us know how this works for you once you get them installed. I had a buddy this fall that had a '65 Cobra totaled due to low visibility in the evening (and a woman not paying attention). Brighter lights are a good thing!!
  17. Do you have original flattop carbs or are they the earlier carbs - what carb was used on the CD? Do they have the same setting? I know where the setting should be on my '72 ........what is the setting for a '73 flat top carb? Sorry - I missed the 3screw part - just last month I got my carb float level dead on - mine is set at 15 mm front and back - where did you set yours?
  18. Great pic's and thanks for sharing - this is the perfect time to replace those fuel lines in the tail section of your car if you have not done that yet - better now then waking up one morning and having gas in your garage floor!
  19. When you say you "rechecked float levels and they are correct" what are they set at and how did you set them?
  20. Bud - Thanks for the kind words! As with any of us that put more money into our cars then they are worth it's a labor of love more than anything else. I would have to agree with you though, there is something about the lines on these Z cars that just keep on talking to me.
  21. Glad to have you as part of our forum - welcome!
