Be careful with the canned spray glue.......it goes everywhere if you are not careful. You may want to have something to clean up quickly if needed (which you will need). Be sure to let it get tacky and then stick it up. I supported my for 12 hours so it would not drop any. Don't attempt this project by yourself. If you let two sticky glued edges touch you are in trouble. While you are up there you may want to put in a sound deadener which makes a HUGE difference in the cabin of the car.

14 months - It's really best not to push - My time period was longer than my quote due to finding issues once they got into it........working mainly on insurance jobs - and then working more on insurance jobs - then working more in insurance jobs - well - you kinda get the picture. I would go by weekly and take pictures so I could keep a dated time log of their work and for me to have the work documented. I will promise you I will not buy another car without touching it first though. An airplane tickets cost vs. body shop cost plus the time - not even a second thought for the next one.

I agree - a great bunch to work with and order parts from. I've had excellent service from them and my wife ordered some of Dave's harness upgrades for part of my christmas gift. They assisted her and everything was perfect as ususal. They do deserve a "atta boy" every once in a while!

240Z sidemarker to turnsignal conversions available
Travel'n Man replied to Arne's topic in Electrical
The best saftey correction I have made to my car. This was a super easy fix and only took 5 minutes for both sides. I'm really fired up on the other two harnesses that I recieved for Christmas. The dayz are getting longer and driving season is getting closer. Thanks Dave! -
mlaw7- * No alterations to the original radio harness since mine is still live and I have two sound systems in my car * I have to use my power antenna to have an antenna - I "y'd" it off the back of the original radio - very basic and easy * Follow the instructions for wiring - 1 to the battery - 1 to the fuse box and a ground if I remember correctly. It was very basic and easy. * If I remember I have over 900 songs via the memory card and the random feature works nicely.

I installed mine last year. I kept my original fuctioning radio and put the new unit in the glovebox and "y'd" the incoming antenna lead.......works like a champ. I ordered mine through Crutchfield and they shipped a piece of plastic 15x15 and I used a dremel to cut out the plate for the glovebox facing. Perfect for keeping the original look of the dash and upgrading sound quality. Remote control works well with MP3 changes and volume control.

My main goal is front strut bearings and install new harness for lights, parking lights, and turnsignal connections from MSA (with a thanks to Dave for making a great correction for our cars:beer:). I've read all the reviews and this seems to be one of the best bangs for your buck. I'll be excited to drive her at night this driving season. Today, I'm getting her off of the tires to help reduce flat spots since she will not be moved until April or May along with the '29 Roadster.

Be sure to research the past postings. The thickness of todays speakers may give you a "buzz" that you do not want.

You are very fortunate!

Agreed! I had a diff that had bad seals and started screaming. I called Roger and just by luck I had a buddy in his hometown doing some music sessions at a local college. Roger found my buddies truck and took the part to him, matched up the license plate numbers and put it a plain jane cardboard box and saved me freight. My buddy delivered the diff to my house the very next day. I keep Rogers number in my Blackberry........you never know.

Jared- Have you been over to Maryville yet to visit Roger - if you are looking for a part, odds are, Roger has it - it's really crazy to see all the stuff that he does have if you are looking for that hard to find something. Beautiful work and budget! The Z Barn http://www.zbarn.com/ -

Stunning!! 14 is your lucky number! -
Bill- Everybody has a different opinion of what the perfect Z is. What is perfect for you may be overly modified for somebody else. That's the beautiful part about it.......all of our cars are very individualized for every owner out there. Some owner will cut holes in the door panels for that ultimate sound system and others would rather cut off their right arm before cutting into their door panel. The only information I can share with you is to not get in a hurry - don't buy the first car that "looks good" because looks are very decieving. There are several areas that need a very deep look i.e the floorpan area, the battery area, the quality of paint, the quality of the body panels, does the electric all work, is the interior in excellent shape, is the dash original or is there a dash cap on it. Is the motor original, is the transmission correct and working, does the diff make noise, any overheating issues............. So.........if I were you I would have a check list and while you are out I would "judge" each of the cars you are thinking about buying. Be honest with your scoring system and remember - you may think "it just needs a paint job" but do you really know what is under the current paint and how much work it is going to take to fix it. A little body work can eat up $10K in a heartbeat. Today is really a buyers market. There are a lot of folks that have a older refreshed or restored car that they have to sell due to today's work enviroment. You can really get a bargin on some very nice cars out there. Everybody on this site saw a early Z go for (it think) $16K on Barrett-Jackson earlier this month. This was an orginal car with a re-paint if I remember correctly. So bottom line - it's up to you but I would buy the best car - with the least amount of work that needs to be done. I agree with above - never buy with emotion because it could cost you thousands to correct you own error. Good luck and keep us posted..............welcome to the site!!

Here is the unit that MSA offers. It has a nice clean installed look. Wecome to the site and be sure to use the search option often. There is a ton of information here!

Well-it's been another week and another great driving week with some outstanding fall colors for driving in the mountains with a lot of twistys. All is excellent with the mount, and gears are shifting as they should. I've only got a few more driving weeks before the snow and salt start coming down. I'll give one last update here in a another week or so but as she drives right now the R/T mount is dead on perfect! My only problem is I should have done this a long time ago.

Looking for pictures of Z cars with WIRE WHEELS
Travel'n Man replied to logan1's topic in Wheels & Brakes
I had a White 240Z '73 back in '77. That was a great car! It had wire baskets that were removable so I could have to totally different personalities with the wheels - one sporty - and one a little more dressy. Damn, I miss that car. I ran into my high school girlfriend a couple months ago and asked her if she had any pictures of that car. If I can find any I'll post them. -
Replacement washer fluid pump "How To"
Travel'n Man replied to Zs-ondabrain's topic in Open Discussions
I bought a plug and play replacement at Advance Auto a couple years back..........they looked it up on their computer, ordered it and she fit perfect..........she is still working great. I had more of a challange getting the old one out then putting the replacement one in. -
I know several people are following this thread and to date since my install of the R/T Mount I have had absolutly zero noises in my diff area...........I hope your results will be as consistant as mine. This post is from a previous post in a different thread with the same topic----- This is the ultimate correction for my differential challange. This mounts goes into the exact same bolt holes as the Strap (4 bolts) and totally replaces the strap (I have one for sale if anybody needs one) Of course I will NEVER put it back on my car. There is an energy bushing that goes in the top and the unit is mounted into the original holes for the strap - pretty basic (the Datsun strap is mounted to the top of the diff and the Insulator is mounted to the bottom - with the R/T Mount they both are up top - nothing on the bottom). I got this installed (approx 30 min), retorqued all the main components in the rear and this is solid as a rock. There is enough flex for the diff due to the suspension bushing that is designed to be used with it, so it is NOT metal to metal. Their is absolutly no Clunk or any noise at all other than the tone from my exhaust and the big smile on my face. I was abusing the gear pattern with absolutly zero noise. Shifting was smooth regardless of how hard I was shifting. NO CLUNK AT ALL - AT ANY RPM - AT ANY SPEED - IN ANY GEAR. Within the past two months I have installed new: U-Joints Half Shafts (4) U-Joints Propeller Shaft (2) Replacment R-180 Diff Diff Cover Gasket Diff Mount (I have a used slightly used one for sale) Diff Mount Bar Insulator Diff Bar Washer Diff Seal Front Diff Seal Side (2) Ron Tyler Mount Suspension Techniques GM Transmission Mount Re-Torque Main Components This was the complete fix for the my clunk (along with re-torqueing).

OK..........I'm not tooting my own horn but I can afford to buy a muscle car or any brand of a car that I want. My daily driver is a BMW X-5 that I ordered new. When I deceided to renew - restore - refresh (what ever you want to call it) a Datsun it was my choice. I had a Z back in the '70s and that is the reason I started this project back in '07. And today I do not regret it at all. I can get in my BMW and know the money I make and the car that I drive. I can get in my Z and know exactly where I came from and the exact same feeling I had back in the '70's is with me today. I'm sure for all of us the exact same reason is the same.................it's a flashback in the day that we had and the day that we are having. I'm almost 50 and I hope in the next 10 years it's the exact same feeling. It's nothing about reliving yesterday, it's all about living today to the fullest. An American Muscle car...........just not my bag, the lines on a Dodge, Ford, Chevy, just not there for me. The sexy lines on a Z car and a 38-28-38 figure.........one in the same for me...................IMO. We all just need to stop selling these cars so cheap. We control the market.........if we want to!!

Auctions like these is why the core value of our cars are not going up in value IMO.

I was surfing ebay a couple of weeks ago and hit the buy it now button. I received the catalog today and the quality is great. I've been trying to purchase the CD for a while now but being a red blooded male I would rather look at the pictures and turn the pages anyway. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-Fairlady-240Z-260Z-Parts-Catalog-Excellent_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem439a9f5c58QQitemZ290356943960QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

I had a great Saturday - me and my buddy did our areas Toy Run Bike and Car Show me in the Z and him in his Factory Five '65 Cobra. We made a 80 mile trip and took 2 hours..........a lot of twistys and police escort the entire way - we were topping 75mph at times got to go through all the red lights it was a blast!! We got back to the show and had a great BBQ lunch and talked cars and bikes. My buddy deceided to come over to my house with his wife and tighten up his header and some dumb 19 year old chick pulled out right in front of him. He and his wife hand built this '65 Cobra in their garage and every nut and bolt they put in..........3 months of work and the front of the car is in bad shape. I was so bummed out for him - but I'll tell how much of a trooper he is. I called him up Sunday and asked him if he and his wife were up for a motorcycle ride into 3 states and he said "let's go". Now after a front impact I might be a little nervous getting on a motorcycle but he did not even blink............... I've gotta give him a "atta boy" ! I only heard him say "damn" one time.......... The chick got the ticket needless to say
