  1. 1) After sitting for you long you may need to bleed your lines. 2) Have you checked your brake fluid?? 3) Pull off your rear drums and see if your pistons are moving by one person looking at the pistons and another putting on the brakes. Do the same thing to the front............no drum to remove 4) After sitting for you long you may need to bleed your lines. There are a lot of articles on this topic, have you researched any?
  2. Call Les at Classic Datsun. He has the custom original color mixed in spray cans and will sell you the correct paint if that is what you are looking for. I purchased two cans when I had my bodywork completed and had my painter matched the color. I still have one can @$25.00 per can but I have put that in storage incase I was to need it in the future. I would remove all three rear panels, clean them up, light sand, steel wool, prime, and then use correct color paint from Les (three light coats). Your tail light panels will look correct from the factory (or as close as we can get). http://classicdatsun.com
  3. Mark- Make sure you read up on the "cord technique" and putting your windshield trim in. Has your body shop installed a windshield of this type in the past? If they are a bunch of young guys they could have a challange due to our style of window and weather seal. I had an oldtimer installer at a glass shop put mine in and they still broke the first one. You may want to make sure that they have insurance if yours gets broken or cracked and can get one overnighted at their expense if yours does crack (hopefully that will not be the case - the glass shop replaced mine at no charge to me)!!
  4. Matt- My recommendation would be (if possible) go and view the car of you choice in person before the purchase. So many of the ebay/craigs listings are not entirely true, it would be cheaper in the long run to know exactly what you are purchasing with your money. You can spend big $$$ on fixing rust and painting that pictures can hide. Good luck, and the old saying "buyer beware" could not hold more true for classic car purchasing.
  5. Mauro- All of us know exactly how you feel. Sure, any of us could have bought another car, one that was newer, more updated with airbags and more modern things but it's just not the same. Take you time, enjoy the ride, and enjoy the looks and remarks from all age groups on how good your car looks once you get her finished.
  6. I am looking to upgrade my original AM/FM Radio in the console. I want to leave the original look in the console and put a remote IC stereo in the glove box - total seperate system to the original stereo in the car (so when you open the glove box there will be a total faceplate with the upgrade reciever in the entire space of the glovebox - all nicely tucked away out of site). I am looking at a Retrosound Digital Media Reciever with the IC cable to run the remote control so I can change songs - stations - MP3 - without opening the glove box. I am also planning on installing the black speaker panel from MSA. http://retrosoundusa.com http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/SP/50-5351 http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/IA42/50-1290 Has anybody done this install and if so how did the install work for you? I know I will have to support the reciever inside the glove box cavity and I'm sure the actual glovebox will have to come out for the install. Somebody may have already optimized this install in a different fashion that is even better - show me what you have completed - I'm looking for the best quality install - not the loudest - my ears are still ringing from the last KISS concert I went to back in the 80's!! I have already searched the archieves and did not find this type of install. Thanks in advance for your assist!
  7. Randy, Beautiful car............great find!! Get some pictures up when you get a chance.
  8. 2005 BMW X-5..........it's a helluva SUV. 150,000 one owner miles and still travel'n! It still drives as good as it did the day I picked it up in Greenville SC.
  9. I've got both my collectables covered under Hagerty. Just be sure you have your values set correctly to cover a total loss (plan for the worse and hope for the best). You have to have pictures into them and you car(s) have to be garaged full time in a locked garage. I'm sure their claims are far and few between. I have not had a claim yet (thanks goodness). 1972 Datsun 240 Z 1929 Ford Model A Roadster w/ rumble seat I wouldn't think of going anywhere else
  10. You gotta love Jeeps - I've got a '75 J10 Pickup that will climb a tree. We use it in our Christmas Tree Farm ...........oh yea, welcome to the site. My first passion is the Z without a doubt, ever since the 70's when I got my first one!!
  11. Chris- From one '72 to another, welcome!! Get some more pictures posted the first change you have.
  12. If I had it to do over I would find a great restored project that somebody has gotten tired of and purchase it. Naturally I would fly to the location and personally view the car before the purchase. By the time you buy a car, complete a restoration-refresh of some sort, replace body panels, replace interior parts, work on some engine issue, exhaust, and so forth- take two or three years to complete, and spend much more that you budgeted it would be a lot easier to take your time - and purchase somebody elses project. So- Whats a Datsun 240Z worth - It's worth (to you) whatever you have in it!! So - would I do the restore-refresh again - IN A HEARTBEAT!!
  13. Craig- Great looking car. I am a stripe fan (see below) but IMO some cars look great and some cars get too much going on). I would also have to agree with the above posts. Personally, I think the car would look great by losing the stripes, and also removing the front Datsun plate and putting on driving lights in the front. The front spoiler looks great and the Datsun colors on the front plate is not complimenting the overall colors of the car.........IMO. Let us know your final descision. What ever it is, you can't go wrong with a Datsun Z Car!!
  14. Yes, this is a true statement. Give them your CZCC number and your good to go. That's all there is to it.
  15. That looks like the gift that will keep on giving. Happy Birthday
  16. Congrats on your find, looks great! Looking forward to seeing more pictures. While you are cleaning the carbs you may want to pull that gas tank and make sure everything is clean in there. There are some great write ups on prep for getting your car starting before you actually fire it up. It could save you some big money on interior damange to your engine. Let the FUN begin!!
  17. I got (IMO) real lucky and found the louvers on ebay about 3 weeks ago. The PO never installed them, they were in the original box and I got them with a BIN for $140.00 and 35.00 ship. One of the best buys I have purchased on ebay for my '72, finally I didn't get screwed. The louvers are hinged. http://www.sfxperformance.com/parts/AST10532.htm The manufacturer is: WILLPAK IND 2030 SPEERS ROAD OAKILLE, ON CANADA PART NUMBER 10532
  18. Ken- I hope this helps with your decision. Keep us posted.
  19. I just installed a set I purchased that DO NOT require you to drill into the hatch. I will try to post a couple of pictures this evening. The louvers went on easily and the way it mount was excellent. Somewhere down the road if I want I can take the off for a while and then put them back on and the back deck will remain without holes. I would really think twice before I got a drill and drilled into my deck hatch!
  20. I purchases OEM from Courtsey and they are perfect.
  21. There is a ton of information on this site dealing with wheel size and offsets. Be sure to do your research and NOT have your tires rubbing. Wheels are a very personal thing (what I think looks great you might think are just OK). Scan through pictures and find what you like and then double check to make sure they do not rub!! Arne is the resident expert on wheel and tire size. Welcome!
  22. Great looking car and excellent details. Thanks for sharing!!
