  1. Truely outstanding! If a person were to budget that type of work quality were do you think that budget would be in todays market with labor?
  2. Rick- Your Z looks great. Stunning engine bay............keep those pictures coming!! On down the road I'm going to have to check out one of those stroker engines..........I've heard a lot of good things about them. Does she get up and go?
  3. Keep it cool............MSA has done a fantastic job for me during my restoration/refresh. I have purchased $1000's of dollars worth of parts and have had to send a couple of items back, some my fault and some theirs. The one's that have been their fault they have paid for shipping and have been very professional. Call them up and discuss it with them.
  4. To resolve the issue with two sound systems and one automatic antenna from the original radio I went to my local audio installer and purchased an antenna "Y" and connect both systems to the same antenna (Radio Shack did not stock them anymore). Yea, I've got to put the antenna up and down from the electric control on the original AM/FM reciever but I don't like leaving mine up. Reception is excellent! Back in the day people didn't smoke crack through them they snapped them and broke. The "Y" was the perfect solution for me (kudo's goes out to William-HLS30 for helping me a couple months ago with this issue!!)
  5. I did leave my original AM/FM in place and fully operational. The Retro Sound One system sounds great. The remote works well. I've got my system in place (I have not finalized the glove box face plate yet). My AM/FM has 10 times better reception and my Ipod had a never ending random song selection. I can get a thumbdrive and download but I kinda like the Ipod and picking the songs or artists that I'm in the mood for. I've got over 200 CD's loaded so I'm good to go! I am very pleased with the Retro Sound One product and the simplicity of the install. The glove box mounting was a little tricky but sitting in the car you would never know it was there.
  6. Scott- First of all welcome to the site. Second, that's some bad luck. Be sure if you rent a car hauler and if you have a front spoiler on your Z car to take some 2x4's or something to help get the nose of the car up so you will not scrape the spoiler. Some car haulers are fine and some are not. I found a buddy this past month that I can borrow his car hauler but I can see my adventure will probably reflect yours. This guy is a fixer upper and his favorite tool is duct tape..........I will have to give that trailer a close inspection before I borrow it from him. I am also looking a buying one but with two car projects going on ('72 Z and a '29 Roadster) my wife is ready to shoot me as well. Then you have to decide if it is going to be enclosed or open. Enclosed is the best bet but also the most expensive one. The opens ones are ok but then when you park at a hotel everybody can see what you have and hope nothing happens...........by the way, did you insure your car with Hagerty?? If not you may want to check out thier rates and service.
  7. MSA gives members of CZCC up to a 10% discount (just give them your membership number). I've bought a lot of items off ebay but it is a lot easier just to go to MSA or Courtsey Nissan out of Texas. Between the two they can supply me with 95% my needs. By the time we cherry pick the best price from ebay we all get it on the shipping.

These are the most industrious guys I've seen in a long time. From engine rebuild to paint. I haven't watched all of them yet but there is a lot of information packed in these.
  9. Great find.........get some pictures up and let's see what you have. It's amazing what is in each of our neighborhoods that we don't know about.
  10. Carl- You are correct........I cleaned the surface of the metal and attached the Dynamat with the roller - after pre-fitting because once it is attached .......well, it's there to stay. I then made sure my headliner was prefit cut and put a piece of tape in the middle where I knew I needed to start once glued. I then sprayed both side and let set up. Then, just lilke the ones before me start in the middle and work out. I tucked the side into the metal frames.......that was the easy part. Do be sure to support your headliner and let the eveything totally set up overnight before you move on the the front and side pieces. The three other pieces were extremely hard to stretch and fit and keep in place and clamp - you really need 4 hands working at the same time to do a good job. That is why I posted pictures because hopefully it will help somebody working on the headliner and the front and side pieces. Be sure to place plastic sheets over car to protect your paint when you are spraying the glue........it does like to fly out of the can when you are working on the side pieces and front - just like the headliner - spray both surfaces and let set up and get tacky for a minute or so before attaching. You will need something to keep the glue off you hands as well because it does get messy and sticky. You can use some glue-be-gone once you are finished to get any residue off your trim.
  11. For future reference, when your headliner is out is the perfect time to soundproof. It makes a HUGE difference in the roof sound quality. I am also attaching picures on how I attached the other pieces. It was a complete pain in the azz but it does help if you have a very patient helper to complete the project and don't get in a hurry. Don't buy the ultra fast drying glue.....you will need a little wiggle room
  12. Joe- Welcome to the site. All of us really enjoy projects and gaining knowledge on this site. Enjoy yourself, use the search engine often! Congrats on your find and enjoy the adventure!!
  13. I would have to think you are steering in the right direction with your new find. I little more advise (take it or leave it- its your call). With today's low airfare it would be worth your time to purchase a ticket and go and touch the car. I bet you could get airfaire for under $250.............for the piece of mind, that money could not be better spent. Congrats on your find and by the way, it the best color out there.
  14. I would honestly listen to what is being said by some of the most experienced members this site has. A lot of us (me for example) got the urge you got and made an error in purchasing. It really depends on your check book and annual income. If you have the extra cash and can afford to fix the challanges that comes with a car with known rust then go for it. The guy that sold me my car said it was rust free on ebay, I made the purchase, had it shipped from Californina, paid for freight to the east coast ($1K). If I would have known what I know now I would have had a member from the site go by the location in California and looked at the car If I had it to do over again I would wait to find somebody else's project that they have gotton tired of and make that purchase. All it takes is a little time and lot less money. Most of us that have done refreshs are in the $20K range and total restores are in the $30K range...........yea, we know the current market does not justify the money we put into it but it's the car we want to be associated with, for me its part of my teenage years growing up back in the 70's........I had a 73 back in '78 Keep your eye on ebay, use any of us as a eye for you if you find something, we have members all over the place and be patient. I do agree you can find better, maybe not right at this moment but maybe tomorrow. Unless you have deep pockets it would be worth the wait. Good luck and keep us posted with your descisions:beer:
  15. Brandon- Great looking project - I use to live on West Grace Steet back in the mid 60's...........Richmond has grown!! I've still got family membes there. Keep the pictures rolling with updates!
  16. I would look under your car and around the gas tank area and see if you have any fuel line leaks. Also, remove the right side interior rear hatch panel and the tail light panel (from inside the car) and inspect all fuel lines in there. It sounds like you have a fuel leak. I think that would be the first thing I would look at and get corrected. Most any auto store will have replacement fuel line.
  17. Logan, Great find! Now your ready for an adventure!! I hope you like heads turning because that's what is going to happen when you get her cleaned up and on the road. Congrats and welcome!!
  18. I thought real hard about putting them on when my body work was almost completed but ............... I just couldn't bring myself to it.........to each their own.........but I'm damn careful where I park.
  19. Don't forget about inspecting your fuel lines in the rear hatch area. You will need to remove two pieces of interior panels to get to it but could and will save challanges on down the road. It really easy to drop the gas tank out and have it cleaned as well. Good luck - it's really a great adventure oh, by the way, go ahead a put a small refrig in the garage with your favorite beverage, it's turned out to be one of my favorite rooms in the house now.
  20. Great looking Z........I can see why you won. Congrats!!
  21. You took first place and did not post a picture............unbeliveable!! Come on now!!
  22. Leave your 72 console original............I just purchased a RetroOne and leaving my original Hitachi in place. This (Second System) will go in the glove box with a complete face plate with a total stand alone system. When you look into my car it will look stock. I have purchased the MSA speaker box for the back. I just ordered speakers yesterday and still have to order a hidden antenna and then I will begin the installation.
  23. I recommend to jack the car up off all fours. Take off all your wheels and remove the rear drums. Have a buddy sit in the car and apply the brakes and you look at each of the pistons from each braking system and make sure each of them are working correctly. It sounds like your rear piston is frozen, if it is you will have a challange getting that drum off. Get two small thin screwdrivers and while using the good rear brake as an example get into the inspection hole of the locked brake and push the star wheel lock down to free up the star wheel, while that is down you will need to counterclock turn the star wheel to free up the drum to remove it with a second scrwedriver in the same inspection hole (its a little tricky but it will free up your drum and save you $100 from beating the hell out of it). If this is the case check that brake piston one more time so you can see if it is frozen (when you press on the brakes it will NOT work and I bet you will see a little brake fluid come out of the piston itself). Sounds like a bad wheel cylinder to me...................remember, there are left ones and right ones, be sure to order the correct size. I bet only one of your rears are locked, once you jack it up and check you will know for sure, be sure to use jack stands!!
  24. Jeffery- I have a stock 72 Hatachi AM/FM and I am installing a RetroOne reciever MP3 Player AM-FM as a stand alone unit with seperate speakers from the stock radio in the car - MSA speaker unit that takes the place of the rear tail light plastic. I am planning on placing it in the glove box all tucked away and out of site so if you look into the car you can not see at all. It will be controled though a IR remote and wiring that goes back to the reciever to change mode selections. Once I get the install done (hopefully next week if I can find time from my projects) I will post pictures. I have requsted information from the group and nobody said they had done an installation like this one. Some people could not figure out why I would want a remote but would you try to open the glove box while you are driving to increase volume or change to another MP3 file or radio station.........I don't think so if you like you carROFL
