Oh my! So how many hornets are in a typical nest? How do you exterminate before chopping it down?
  4. SU, O-ring and lock ring $72.02 shipped from courtesy. Prices have gone up. Always weird to me what is NLA. I figured I wood get a new plug and tank washer, nope.

I thought today was hornets nest day!
  6. Well I tried it with the car off and it was just a fine vapor barely noticeable and it stopped altogether. I started it and ran it for about 10 min and no smoke. Gauge was only Luke warm. Not sure if this is normal or not. Disconnected the two tank wires and gauge dropped as it should.
  7. Thanks. Yeah my wires were completely off when I got the car back. On your other thread I noticed a 90 on one of your vent lines above the tank was that to prevent kinking?
  8. Old thread yes I know. 71 240z, So my gauge doesn't work. I was able to get it to full sweep by connecting the yellow wire to the black wire which tells me my sending unit is bad. Just to be clear the yellow wire on the tank goes to the top of the Sending unit, bottom is ground correct? The new gauge I'm using is from my old 73. (My current one is falling apart). VisuallY the wires match up at the plug, however, I'm getting a very faint amount of some coming from the gauge that last for a second. Dust, dirt in the gauge? Do I leave it pegged at full and see if it (gauge) heats up and or pops the fuse? Also my car has the GM 90amp upgrade. Maybe I should try with it off vs running to see if the amps are causing smoke?

You should have asked me first I would have given it to you for free! I have a few odds and end 280z stuff. May not all be applicable.

The other thing you could do once you get the new starter innstalled, if the voltage drop continues, pull fuses one by one so you can possibly isolate which circuit is causing the drain.

    Oh I gotcha. Thanks.

Dave I'm not following you. From how I thought this worked is the key switch supply's voltage to the dropping resistors which goes straight to the injectors. That's the positive side. The other 6 wires go to the Ecu which controls the grounding aspect of firing the injector. if that is not right please correct me.

Yes it's normal. See the dropping resistors on the bottom of the page right above where it says notes.

That is exactly how my ZX acted and then the injectors freed up. Add some more starting fluid a few more times. Let it sit over night and try it again. I had the exact same problem with my starter too. Luckily I had a spare.

You should only have 3 volts or so to the injectors, if I recall correctly. That is what the dropping resistors are for. Little silver metal box bolted to the fender side engine bay. I forget which side on the s30, left side on ZX. At least you got it to fire. I don't think the starter connection is causing your fuel issue if it runs on the fluid.

Or an old good working injector works well too. You can hold it in your hand and feel it actuate.

If they are clogged with the fresh gas sitting in them they may work free. My 280zx sat forever (10 years) and they worked free finally within 30 min. I was using starter fluid and I think running the motor on it alone helped the injectors pulse more and free up. At least that is my best guess. Or take them out and make one of these to pulse them and run carb cleaner through them. Honestly, I don't think that is your issue. I would do this as a last resort as it's a PITB!

If your getting spark now, spray some starting fluid and see if she kicks over. If she does you injectors aren't likely firing or they may be clogged. Doubtful on the clog, but maybe. Hasn't been sitting that long.

I know there was one in Australia. The Subaru swaps have been abandoned. It was always a pleasure to watch Z-gads car when he live here in Orlando. He has a 8.95 pass on streetfire that won't play on my iPad.
