  1. So you have no 9/16 filter? Man I'm all confused.
  2. You guys have Walmart down there? The g2 and the g12 both are 5/16 and in the auto section. Your actually stretching 5/16 hose on to a 9/16" filter? Or you running on 9/16 hose on the 5/16 fuel line?
  3. What was the outcome?

All very nice. I sold my big letter NISSAN cover a few years ago for $150. Now I know they are going for much more. On the bright side I think I paid $20 for it. Your not afraid to drop some money I see!

Every time I buy one there is always some kind of remark. I look at it this way, if you got for a price where you can simply flip it the way it sits and make money, who cares. It's an investment. The cars I lose money on are the daily drivers, not Z's. That is my approach for the hobby. To me I get a kick out of the buying selling and working on them.

I have the 72/73 fuse cover panel I can sell you. I think the one with the seat belt light was for the 73, without was for 72. I think. Either one $30 plus shipping.

On the fuel line that runs under the car there are mounting points every couple of feet. It has a little metal cover that is screwed on that holds the fuel line in place. Need 4 or 5 of the covers. No clue why mine are missing but they are. Let me know.
  8. Alrighty the wife went to bed so I went back to the garage! I got it! I started at the front. With a very small wire 1/64 from ace, I folded over the end made very tiny teardrop on the end. Hooked to my drill, I could only go 29". It would not go any further. I cut the return line right at 30". The blockage was at least 6" long and rock hard. I ended up cutting back it so only 6" stuck past the firewall. I even tried to drill it and had a difficult time. I know the car sat a very long time. So now that the front was open I put the weed eater line back in. Amazingly it would only go as far in as it did in the back. Within a 1/2". I went back to the back and tried that way, same result, right at 6'. So with Stanley's idea, I grabbed a new bicycle cable I had laying around cut the end off and Inserted into my drill. With it spinning and right at 6'4" long I was able to get it through! I switched from front of the car, to under the car by the tank a couple of times and had good results. I thought for sure the weed eater line would now go through, nope! Anyway,I put a rag over the engine bay side and blew air through it and the rag shot right off. I really want to get the weed eater line through to really clean it out. You can see the return line right on bottom side of the starter and the bike cable in the drill at the bottom left.
  9. I had thought about the drill too. I was able to twist the weed eater line very nicely. What was the length of wire you were running in the drill? Hmmm. Now you have me thinking. I have a good length of new bike cable for the brakes I could use.
  10. Nothing. I'm running 125 psi air pressure holding as tight as I can. Nada. This was brilliant and has worked best so far. From the front I can get about 3' and it stops. Puts me to edge of battery. The concerning part is from the back. I can get 6' in. Lots of lube and the back should go in the furthest. I think I'm ending up right about mid tranny. I've tried and tried with same results. If I can't get to much further from the front I'm going to cut it at the firewall and flare it there. Then try from the front again. More tomorrow. Wife gave me the look of death for going in the garage. Geese at least I got out of my good clothes.
  11. That's what she said! My return fuel pressure was a nice stream when i took of the fuel line in the engine bay. I know it's not the same as lacquer thinner but I figured it's been sitting with fuel for awhile. It runs the full length of the car. I think worse cast scenario I can run a rubber fuel line from front to back and not use it for the time being. I have a feeling the tank is coming out soon anyway and I'll want to upgrade to FI I'll need a bigger return anyway.
  12. Good thought. I have tons.
  13. i tried two different small gauges of piano wire. It's only a 3/16 line so... First was a no go. Went back and got the smallest flexible i could but still stiff. It is tiny. I was able to make the first bend in the engine compartment and only went about 5". I'll try from the tank side tomorrow to ensure it's a clog and not the wire. Has anyone ever cut the fuel line before and used a brake tool flare to remake the end barb?
  14. Any suggestions on how to unplug? Searched and some folks said compressed air, tired that from either end disconnected from the tank and the rail, nada. Someone else mentioned small wire. Where you getting piano wire from, hobby store?

Oh to be 16 again, especially with all the time you have! Like Jay said above, it's just the internet, don't take it personally. You have a lot of older, seasoned folks here who only have your best interest in mind. All that aside, you've made tremendous progress. Just avoid the girls for awhile to help you keep focused!

You check eBay for your old model? Sometimes you can get lucky.
  18. Thanks for everyone's comments.
  19. EFI is simple also, just different. I'm talking plug and play, not tunning like madkaw is going through. Carbs are simple too don't get me wrong. I think SUs are one of the simplest ever honestly. I've already stolen the EFI from my 79 parts car that I got running very well. Just time. That is my first step. Trying to make small steps. I have bad tendency to lose focus. I have gobs of turbo parts. Just been collecting for awhile. Been all over the place wanting this and that HP wise. Had 2 LS1 donor cars and sold those off. The first car was wrecked and auto then I wanted a 6 speed. Bought a nice trans-am 6 speed for cheap. I really understand why people go LS1. I couldn't bring myself to canibalize the car. Then I needed money for a second house so I sold everything. Luckily I was able to buy back my Z I sold. That is another weird story. At this point I'm simply trying to use what I have. My 71 is not very original someone already swapped in an L28. So why not. I'm shooting for a conservative 300HP now. Anything more things start breaking and I'm only going to run 225/50 out back.
  20. Thanks guys. Appreciate the experiences. Yeah I'm heading down the EFI road. I'm just very slow getting there.
  21. Yeah this one? https://zcardepot.com/fuel/fuel-pump/electric-fuel-pump-carburetor.html?search=Fuel+pump Looks like the Airtex: https://www.amazon.com/Airtex-E8016S-Universal-Electric-Fuel/dp/B000C1LW0E/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1499569897&sr=8-1&keywords=Airtex+E8016S
  22. I thought the mr gasket were the junk ones and not the dorman? I had a mr gasket on before and it was collecting junk well. Didn't look like it was deteriorating. Nothing against you madkaw, but it seems everyone has an opinion on filters. Either fram is good or they suck. I can't make heads or tails of everyone's opinions. I'm likely going to go back to the fram g2 as they have the 5/16" in/out and cheap.
  23. Thank you. I'm going to swap to electric and use the G2 as well, then a second before the carbs. "Supposedly", my tank was cleaned before I bought the car back. There has been a lot of junk filling up the filter. Put a new one on yesterday and it is filling again. I may have to pull the tank again. Anyone know if a 73' tank is a the same as a 71? I have a nice clean tank from my wrecked 73 I could use.
  24. So that is kinda what mine does then. Thanks
  25. Can anyone tell me when if they are running the clear filter like the dorman, when the car is running is it completely full, 1/4, 1/2? I know I have some junk in my tank but when the car is running mine is only 1/4, to 1/2 full. I know I've thought I've seen it completely full before but recently I've been having issues. Possibly my mechanical fuel pump is failing. I was going to switch to low pressure pump by the tank soon, but just wondering.
