Yep. Drivers door opened and closed fine, passenger would not. I honestly think it was hit in the rear too. True color is safari gold, but there appears to be a bend in the rear deck right where the strut tower meets on passenger side which I thought was odd, but then also look at the non original gas tank lid and the lime showing through and under the bumper as well. Plus the rot from the inside where the emblem was is really bad and looked like bonds too. To many unknowns. I know he wants to get rid of it. I’m sure he will call me back and I’ll offer him $500. He won’t take it but I really don’t need it.

Engine is locked, missing correct valve cover, air cleaner is wrong, carbs may or may not be included, and maybe more hidden rust that I may not even see. What really is left for value? E31 head, steering wheel and some misc stuff? Those items may bring $1200. Otherwise I just can’t see it. I think there was more concrete than floor!

I have a source on a car not listed currently. It is rusty and he wants $4500. Needs floors and I’m sure a whole lot more. Vin he said is in the 13000 range. He is second owner and really no docs of any kind. Original owner parked it in a field in 84 and thus the condition.

I just don’t know, is see some unacceptable microscopic gaps there! ??
  5. So for inquiring minds, with the current condition, what did you spend? Congrats as well! Funny, I like to watch American pickers and they always pay top dollar for stuff. I’m like they are nuts on some stuff. I just couldn’t do it.

Am I delusional in thinking I can’t find part “X” for my Z31 in the states, so of course the country of origin will have it in stock? My thought is that Nissan of Japan will want as much of the old parts out of their inventory and to countries that have the most units sold no?

What was the big drain on money? Just normal site seeing with so much to do or odd things you didn’t think of?

Thanks. We told the kids tonight and they are both super excited. We were talking about just turning them lose and let them go there own way. Is that a good idea? Not knowing much on Japan, are there seedy / sketchy areas of Japan I need to stay away from?

I was going to drive cross county by myself, then it morphed into an rv trip with my family to not be so selfish, then I have to be realistic about how nutty we all are and how we can argue like cats and dogs over just choosing a meal. So I’m trying to make it a special event for both kids of what they want to do to hopefully avoid some of that. I don’t know. I’ll be 50, son 25 and daughter 22. I figured this may be our last family vacation with them growing up so I’m trying to do a nice one. If I let them chose the destination, I think will have better success than some of our prior adult get aways. I would like to ride a high speed train for sure in Japan. Helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon. I’d be content with just doing those two things on the trip.

Looking at taking a 2 week vacation next year, with a week out west and then a week in Japan. Both my daughter and son want to go to Japan. My daughter wants to see Disney and honestly I’m not sure why my son wants to go but he does. I know as a kid he grew up watching some Japanese cartoon. Son will be 25 and daughter 22 then. Likely a week isn’t enough to see everything, but what are some must see things to see while we’re there? Any Z related places to see?
  12. How long has the car been sittting? Could be rusty tank issues too clogging fuel line. And by under load you mean driving or when you simply press the gas pedal?

I think it’s about the money at this point. Honestly, if the values have not increased to the levels they are at who would take on such a project. Of course there are those who just love the challenge of a restore. I keep thinking about the tractor guys, who spend thousands of dollars restoring a tractor that is only worth 3k when done. They just love tractors.
  14. I must be getting old or just crotchety, but the more and more I watch fantomworks the less I like them. Maybe it’s just the TV side and how they try to spin it and not their Work. It always seems like everything is so hard to do or it’s going to take forever. As a customer I just want to hear, sure we can do that and this is what it’s going to cost. Maybe they are more budget oriented I don’t know. I really like the work and show up in Canada Restoration Garage , the Guild. To me they do superior work.

Having the center caps helps a lot. Hopefully you still have them.

You’ll soon find out if it’s good or not when you have it rebuilt. ?
  20. It's a light touch you do for your women to entice excitement, "stroke her"! Oh wait, that's the other way around. :)
  21. On a lot of the FI cars esepecially the 280zx I’ve bought over the years, this is the first thing I always did to check the motors. What I did and had good success is disconnect both lines at the fuel Rail. Hook an external pump straight to the rail and the return back to the gallon or so of gas I had in a jug. Sometimes it would take a while for the injectors to free up but they all have so far.

Interesting. Both the rental and the one I looked at buying said premium mandatory.

I was moments away from buying my wife a used 2015 g37. We rented one on Turo for a week and she loved it. I think all said and done it was 25k or so. Then she got practical and went, for the same price we can get a new Camry. We looked at one and so she got it. Now a g37 goes by and she’s like I should have got the g37! Oh well, at least we don’t have to fill up with premium.

I often wondered if my wife was into my cars would things be better or worse. I could easily see the pros and cons either way. We love to garage sale together but sometimes she drives me nuts! I never get my money back when she needs a loan is the worst!

Just be patient is my advise. If your seriously at spending that much I’d spend some time on BAT. Are you familiar with BAT? https://bringatrailer.com/ lf a car comes up post It here and I’m sure everyone will give you solid advice. Hagerty just updated the Z pricing estimates.
