  1. Power on! Be sure to post a picture. Dennis
  2. Add to that list....soaks and holds moisture to promote corrosion, absorbs gasoline drips and overflow to maintain that delightful fresh gas smell mile after mile, and dries out and cracks like an old shoe. But, after all the silly things I've done to my Z since 1971, who am I to judge? ? Dennis
  3. A question: Why leather instead of the factory style rubber flap? Dennis
  4. Didn't see any factory six cylinder 914s in the group. I think you're right about it being a batch from a shop or, more likely, a collector that lost his storage space. One of the cars had several bumper cones stashed on the passenger floor - nice parts to have & getting hard to find. Sheetmetal looked fairly rust free and not wrinkled on most of them. It would be fun to know the story prior to them showing up at Copart. Nice find! Dennis
  5. Looks like some still have a few good parts to be scavenged from the "bones". The listed "Estimated Retail Value" is interesting and accurate only if a drug smuggler left a suitcase full of Benjamins in one of the trunks. Odd to see that many in one place off the beaten path.. Dennis
  6. I removed the air pump on mine when it went bad and left everything else installed. No performance issues. Here's a link to a video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d15DtLaULAI If your goal is "collection value" as you stated, either keep all components in place or if you remove them put them in a box for the next owner. Dennis
  7. Breaker Breaker. Anyone have a CB radio in their Z last century? Or was I the only one? Those were the days, Good Buddy. Mounted it under the glove box and the antenna was attached to the rear window louvers before I upgraded to a magnetic base antenna. Catch you on the flip side. Dennis
  8. I gave him a "Like" because he's "trying to get familiar with other members". A bold move. Dennis
  9. Pull the drum on the side making the noise and look for scoring/rub wear marks on the inside of the drum. At that time, also look to see how much material is left on the brake shoes. Based on what you see, you MAY need to order shoes and have the drum"turned" which will resurface the inside of the drum. Any shop that does brakes should be able to do the job - not a major event. Dennis
  10. What a great excuse for a really expensive Demolition Derby. BMW could get some of their money back by selling tickets to the event. Dennis
  11. Similar fate to the several thousand cars that were on the ship that rolled on its side a few weeks ago off the east coast of the US. Scratch & Dent sale in that instance. https://www.cnn.com/2019/09/09/us/overturned-cargo-ship-monday/index.html Dennis
  12. It doesn't make a difference to me, although others may feel differently. I would prefer it to be updated and if it kept the OEM exterior appearance, all the better. My '71 Z is currently a collection of OEM, installed at the factory in Japan, and replacement parts installed in five or six states. So, no worries. I can't imagine a "purist" pulling a radio and opening it to see if it had original circuitry. That kind of fanatic would probably also "sniff-check" the air in the original spare to see if it had been replaced. After dealing with Porsche cars and car shows for 40 years, I know there are Porsche owners and show judges who are probably that fanatical. But, I haven't run across the equivalent in the "Z" community. Dennis
  13. The mounting hardware, locks/latches, and key usually seem to be missing with 2nd hand louvers that show up for sale. Good luck with the hunt! Dennis
  14. Good luck if that's the one you want. Auctions are interesting as bidders get wound up in the process. So, if you get it for $10,000, add a pro paint job for $5,000, add transporting the car from PA $1,500, add 5% buyers fee on $10K for $500. Plus the unknowns. Too much fun! Dennis
  15. As he crossed the Finish Line and checked to make sure his Depends underwear was still working, he was heard to say, "I meant to do that." ? Dennis
  16. Getting closer. Check the sooty exhaust residue on the left side of the rear bumper. Running rich? Burning oil? Dennis
  17. Midwest salt belt car, sat for years, quite a bit of visible corrosion, Poor fit on hood - see trailing edge seam at cowl, needs new bumpers, needs tires, not sure why they refer to the exterior color as "Avacado", the car has been stored for 35 years which means the engine swap and repaint happened sort of early in its life. Appears to have been "rode hard and put away wet" as they say with neglected horses. I think I'd keep looking. Dennis
  18. Danger is just a slip of the Sharpie away. Stay alert! ? Dennis
  19. My guess would also be an A/C drain tube. Not a lot of fluids drain out of the Z - A/C or radiator overflow. Have you looked for a hole on the passenger side floorboard that could accommodate the hose? Dennis
  20. Seldom do you see a music video where a Byrd, a Beatle, a Heartbreaker, a Domino, a Buffalo Springfield, and a Nobel Prize winner get together to sing a song. Here's one of my favorites. Dennis
  21. The description on the ad says, "•ORIGINAL A/C CAR, ALL THE PARTS ARE INCLUDED " Translation: Original A/C no longer works so it was removed. Plan on spending $1,000+ for a new A/C system and another $1,000+ to have it installed and charged. Budget, or make offer, accordingly. That said, keep looking. Dennis
  22. Currently out of stock, but you can make contact to see when the lens will be available again if you haven't already checked. https://www.240zrubberparts.com/apps/webstore/products/show/4519997 Dennis
  23. Enjoy those swirling twirling autumn leaves, Cliff! We don't get them here in the desert. Dennis
  24. The ad says it all. Fast cars, loose women, cigarettes, and Playboy. I miss the 1970s. Maybe that's why I have a '71 Z and a '70 Porsche. ? Dennis
