Need a Spare Tire ASAP!
Don't forget that the rear wheels/tires can be spares for flat up front if you put the small holed spare on the rear and rotate a good rear to replace a flat up front. Had that some issue with a set of alloys many years ago, Just have to jack the car twice instead of once. Dennis

RIP DEANNA
Looks like you're having one of those "When it rains, it pours." times we all experience in life. Stay strong, stay focused, time is a good healer. Keep in touch on this forum. Dennis

I blame Cliff
Great reminder of a long gone era when "pump jockeys" would fill the tank with 23 cent per gallon gas, check the oil, clean the windshield, and sweep put the floor with a little wisk broom while you sat in the driver's seat getting three one dollar bills out of your wallet to pay for the gas. Front ends. Show me your lower valence!
The first modification I made to my '71 Z in 1972 was to add a BRE Spook. I did that after severe lifting in crosswinds at highway speeds. Problem solved. Dennis

[2017] What Did You Do To/with Your Z Today?
Parked mine in the driveway and immobilized the ignition system as theft deterrent while I'm away for two weeks. Drove it to the post office yesterday to drop off taxes. The Z is such a fun car to drive even after 46 years of putting miles behind us. Dennis

Not Z but it's a hard to past up the opportunity
Who WOULDN'T want one of those split windshield beauties in their garage so they could drive it to Cars & Coffee on Saturday mornings? Dennis

Dash restoration
Just Dashes if you can deal with the cost. www.justdashes.com I had some work done on an interior pad on my Avanti and it was perfect. They've been in business for decades. Dennis

Swapping 280z wheels on my 240z with aftermarket 15 X 7 wheels
Has your car been lowered? If not, the air dam should work with either 14" or 15" wheels and tires as it's designed for the stock Z. I believe you should have whichever wheels make you feel really good about your Z. That's what all those wheels and aftermarket accessories are all about - making the Z look good in the eye of the beholder and creating 'warm fuzzies" for the owner. Dennis

Swapping 280z wheels on my 240z with aftermarket 15 X 7 wheels
More importantly, your hubs are 4 bolt, so the wheel pictured in the link you posted is not the proper wheel for your Z. Ask them to show you a picture of the wheel with a 4 bolt mounting pattern. I kind of like the wheels you have, but if you like 15" wheels, Konig makes nice vintage look wheels for your Z. Changing to 15" wheels will impact the accuracy of your speedometer reading slightly, so check it with a GPS to mentally calibrate. Dennis

Rubber Strips on 240 bumpers: where to source?
Where did a 17 year old get $7K? Certainly not from flipping burgers at McDonalds. Some of the cash would have been better spent on a high performance driving school class. Nice car, slow reflexes, bad wreck. Dennis

Rubber Strips on 240 bumpers: where to source?
Should have put put a strip of it in the center of the bumper......might have absorbed the impact. Dennis

Air Cleaner refreshed
Looks good! What shade of orange did you use - custom mix or "off the shelf rattle can"? Dennis

nice 71 with matching numbers engine
The radio surround panel looks a little plain for a stock piece although it does have the early antenna switch slot (homemade?). Aftermarket replacement? One of the first things I did after buying my Z was to replace the radio. But I used the stock surround. Dennis

Showroom Z 1970 month???
Interesting....no side roof vents or early Z rear decklid vents. As Chuck pointed out, a custom. Dennis

All-new Z car (code-named Z35) will honor the legendary Datsun
In a decade, or so, when all cars are electric, that will no longer be a problem. The grille opening will just be a fond memory from a bygone era - kind of like tail fins, chrome bumpers, and quad headlights. Dennis

All-new Z car (code-named Z35) will honor the legendary Datsun
I don't remember any "artist's concept" leaks of what the original Z would look like - it just kind of showed up in final form at the big car shows and in the enthusiast magazines around the time it hit the dealerships. But, that was a different time. New models cloaked beneath car covers arrived at dealerships and were hidden from the public until the official Fall model year introduction date. Then, there would be a BIG reveal with newspaper ads and coffee and pastries at the dealership. As a kid, I remember going to the warehouse where the local Pontiac dealer stashed the new cars and trying to see them through the blacked out windows. A security guy came out and let my friend and I in to look at the cars - better than Disneyland. New car/model year introductions were a bigger deal in those days. No previews of the XKE, T-Bird, Stingray, or Avanti before it was time. I think that was far more exciting than how it's done now with new models showing up throughout the year. Yes, I'm sounding old. Must be time to go chase some kids off my yard. Dennis

All-new Z car (code-named Z35) will honor the legendary Datsun
A Z update would be nice, but concept cars and what ends up in the showroom are usually quite different. The final design and manufacturing processes generally take a lot of the pizazz out of a concept car. Here's hoping I'm wrong this time. Dennis

Recommendations on 432 rear spoiler
The product MSA sent you is unacceptable and the folks there should either replace it, discount it deeply, or change their ad for it on their website. The unit on their website appears to have a shiny black gelcoat finish (not the mounted picture, but the stand alone picture). The item in your picture is far from that. I've bought a lot of items from MSA and I'm surprised they accepted such a poorly made piece from a supplier and willingly shipped it out to you - two quality control failures for them. They don't mention that extensive finishing work is required. The spoiler you got looks more like what they sell in their "scratch & dent" sales. That said, they are good about making things right and I think a phone call to them would get you a good replacement. Dennis

Faster response when speeding from 1st geat on my 240z and other issues
From all his past post he wants someone to say YES or NO. So can you or anybody else tell him YES or NO? So, if a simple Yes or No is all that's needed......... YES! Totally safe. The car won't catch fire, drive into a ditch, or tip over because the choke is open. However, for 46 years, I've judged when to back off on the choke by performance feel, not by looking at the temperature gauge or the clock. That's been my experience in starting and driving in ambient temperatures ranging from minus 20 degrees to 120 degrees F. Real seat of the pants driving just like knowing when to shift by sound and feel rather than looking at the tach. The Z is a car for all seasons. Dennis
