  1. My mechanic is booked until next Monday. So it will be a few days before I know the cause of the noise. I'm just glad to have a mechanic that works on older imports. Sounds like your son is eager to learn and enjoys a good challenge. My child never got too interested in the care and feeding of sports cars. Fortunately, he makes a good living doing classified things for three letter government agencies so he can pay someone to work on his car. Dennis
  2. I'm going to check with my mechanic this morning to see when I can get into his shop. I've "aged out" from many of the do it yourself fixes I used to take care of. Hopefully just the wheel bearing. Dennis
  3. I don't think so. I only drove about 15 feet out of the driveway and then backed in. It sounded like one clunk with each revolution of the front wheel. Dennis
  4. I put in a new battery and fired it up - started up immediately even though it had been sitting for some time. Prior to the old battery going dead, I had noticed a clicking coming from the front of the car when driving - speed of the clicking increased with the speed of the car. Today, the clicking became a clunking and the Z is now parked in the driveway. Couldn't see anything loose or hanging by the wheels. Maybe a bad 45 year old wheel bearing? Dennis
  5. Nice Austrian Puch. How much did it weigh? Dennis

W Jute is a natural plant based fiber. Although you have called it carpet, what you show in the photos is the carpet PAD, not the carpet. Your car, your choice about what you want to put UNDER your carpet. Dennis

Looks like a big crack to fiberglass. I'd probably bond in a thin sheet metal or aluminum panel under the fiberglass cloth patch for added structural strength. Dennis
  8. Check out "Forbes Field" or "Forbes AFB" in a Google search and on Google Earth to see the track (Heartland Park) that was built there. Dennis

Looks like factory carpet padding. If you choose not to reuse it, you can cut modern carpet padding to fit. Dennis
  10. Later in my career, I did a little time at K.I, too. Cruise into Marquette for all you can eat Fish Fry Friday! I think just about every base I was at is now closed or turned over to the Guard or Reserve - Forbes AFB in Topeka, Chanute AFB in Rantoul, Richards Gebaur AFB near Kansas City, March AFB near Riverside, CA. Keesler AFB, near Biloxi, still appears to be open. Thanks for the stroll down memory lane - the '71 Z was with me for all except Chanute & Clark. Dennis
  11. That certainly shows the darker side of Angeles City, New Balibago. American influence and money don't always bring out the best in people. After the US got out of Viet Nam, the Russians moved into some of the abandoned bases. The locals referred to them as "Americans without money". On a more pleasant note, there were plenty of other things to do in the PI and SEA that didn't involve the downtown bars. It was an interesting part of the world for a 23 year old. Dennis
  12. Nope. Dennis
  13. A couple days ago I asked if anyone had a picture of how they dressed when their Z was new. That started me searching to see if I had any from 1971. Here's a picture of what a well dressed new Z owner (me) wore in November of 1971in Northern Wisconsin. I was an Air Force 1st Lieutenant fresh back from living in the Philippines for a year and a half while keeping the world safe from Communism. Be sure to check out the white leather sheepskin lined jacket I had picked up in India while traveling around Asia. Also note the grey cashmere turtleneck sweater. I was cooler than the snow I was standing in. Dennis
  14. I've driven my '71 for 45 years without any vapor lock problems. Summer temps run about 115º here in the desert. Dennis
  15. What part(s) are you hoping to interchange? Dennis

Nice. I look forward to seeing other pictures when you get a helmet cam or a Nanny cam. Dennis
  17. And, also, no selfies just wearing stringback gloves. We need to set some limits On the other hand, so to speak, does anyone have old photos of how they really did dress when their Z was new? There must be a few of us who still have Members Only jackets stashed in the back of the closet or in a box in the attic. Dennis
  18. It sums it up. But, since my wife is a psychologist, I thought I'd ask her for a few more characteristics. Here's her list, see what fits. disregard for feelings of others a lack of remorse or shame easily lies to achieve goals egocentric Dennis

Other than both having two doors and four wheels, not much else is the same. Fun collector item, however. It's kind of like the bootleg record albums that were made in Taiwan in the 1970s. I remember a Johnny Cash country album with the picture of a Black singer on the record sleeve. Dennis
  20. Buy a lottery ticket. This clearly is your lucky day. Dennis
  21. They do make nose picking a little easier . Other than that, I'd think "Pretentious SOB". Dennis
  22. It certainly was a different time. Even the pit crew guys Going over the BRE Z are nicely dressed. Gotta love the white pants. Dennis
  23. Nice find. Any worries about cutting the necessary holes? Dennis
  24. I think we all have those "I just want to get in the Z and drive without having to fix something, again" days...or weeks....or years. Kind of explains those Barn Find Zs that turn up from time to time. Be strong! Dennis
  25. Find a shop and ask what they need. When I've had it done, the shop I used only needed a line drawing that was then scanned and the engraving machine did the rest..
