  1. Since my Z is sitting at my mechanic's shop for the next few weeks while we wait for the ZTherapy carbs to arrive, I'm also having him drop the gas tank, clean it out, install a new fuel sender, install a new gas tank filler tube, and replace the hoses for the vapor recovery tank. After driving it for 44 years, I think it's about time. Dennis

How does $50K compare to what you thought it might be appraised for? BTW, just paid my annual collector car insurance premium today. Value must be going up since the annual premium sure is Dennis
  3. As I mentioned on that thread, I was surprised to see that Mike & Edd connected with him to supply parts rather than one of the many other reputable Z parts suppliers in SoCal. It appears they did their vendor research on his web site rather than checking what others have had to say over the years. Dennis
  4. Ordered a set of SU carbs from ZTherapy this morning. If I can run them as long as I ran the originals, they should keep me and the Z on the road until I'm 112. There's a 30 day waiting list for delivery that I hope goes by quickly. My mechanic suggested a Weber conversion kit, but I prefer to stick with SUs. Dennis
  5. Called AAA to have my Z taken to my mechanic's shop. Not sure what the problem is, but it's beyond the scope of my trouble shooting and fixing skills. Time to let a pro help me get it back on the road. Dennis
  6. I always get a little concerned when a seller starts out be telling you he's honest. On a scale of 1 to 10, isn't everybody? That aside, $4,000 seems a bit high for this one. Looks like a total redo with a little "undo" of the rear mud flaps and adjacent Bondo. I live in the area near the Z and if it has been sitting outside or even covered for the last 35 years, everything not made of metal is going to be dried out and crumbling. It may be a nice shell for a total restoration, depending on how much body filler is under the paint, but I see it more as a $2K car. I, too, am being totally honest.

I just looked for it, too. Looks like YouTube pulled it. Seems to be a copyright issue. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfhMuekqG0Q Dennis
  8. Go with the rechromed bumpers and new rubber trim. The $400 difference wIll seem insignificant when your project is complete and the Z looks like new. Dennis
  9. Sorry, entered in error and deleted.

Interesting US connection for Mike & Edd. Dennis
  11. The doors appear to be staying open by themselves. That's a plus! Should be a fun car. Dennis
  12. And here's one more approach. My '71 went through a couple leaky mechanical pumps in the first six or seven years of its life. After the second one started leaking, I decided to go with an electric pump and NO pressure regulator about 37 years ago. At that time, I left the mechanical pump in place and just bypassed it. Eight years ago, when I replaced my old AC system with a modern version, I pulled the non-functioning mechanical pump which was surrounded by the old York compressor bracket and installed a block off plate. No component problems in 37 years. Dennis
  13. I liked the questioner at the end of the listing, and following the pictures of the needy interior, who asked if the clock worked. Dennis

I'm OK with the Edited banner, but if it starts leaving a Grade, I'll be unhappy.

Scarab or Scarab-like? No air dam, single exhaust, maybe wrong steering wheel, Recaro seats. All unScarab from what I've read about Scarabs. http://www.classiczcars.com/topic/2298-datsun-scarab-info/ Dennis
  16. 1976 still seems to be the "magic" year for SMOG awareness. There was a time when my 1963 Studebaker Avanti had to have seals placed on the carb adjusting screws after it received an "official" adjustment to the standards 40 years ago. Woe be to me of I broke the wax like seals that filled the screwdriver slot on each screw. Glad those days are gone. Twenty years ago, my '70 Porsche was the SMOG demon. It ran clean enough to pass the exhaust test, but couldn't pass the visual test due to aftermarket carbs and linkage. I ended up putting Historic plates on it which took it out of the SMOG test cycle and enabled me to drive it. Dennis

The ad says, "Please serious buyers only". One might wonder if the owner is a "Serious seller" with a $65K asking price. I wish him luck. Dennis
  19. The Denver Yellow Z is also listed on Craigslist in Los Angeles. In that listing, the owner says he's in LA and the Z is in Denver. Dennis
  20. I like the part near the end of the 2nd one where the owner says, "Getting married and need space." Does that mean he currently keeps the Z in his bedroom or that his new wife will be staying in the garage? Dennis
  21. Street legal? No laws about bumpers in denver? I'm sure the police wouldn't notice, although they may ask about the parachute Dennis
  22. Are they cutting you a break on price for cash? Often, one can get a discount for cash rather than paying by credit card. The other thought is that they want to do the work off the books and not have to declare the income. No paper trail, no taxes. Dennis

Sounds like you need to start tracing wires ftom the A/C control switch and the fan switch on the center panel to their power source. Do you have a wiring diagram? Start with a visual check to see if all the connection points are connected and them check for continuity between the fuse box and the switches. The fan control switch isn't too complicated, be sure to check the condition of the plug. You never know what's been pulled apart, bent, or broken by a previous owner.. Dennis

An extra set of electric fans will help with cooling in traffic. You can wire them to come on with a thermostat or manually if you want to control them yourself. Dennis
  25. Looks like just about anything one would want in that field. Dennis
