  1. Good as new! Maybe even better. Dennis
  2. I'm guessing that you've posted the same question on BMW, Toyota, and Mazda forums, too. What kind of feedback are you getting from other sources? Since you realize that any answers will be biased, it comes down to "pay your money and take a chance". Just like marriage, it doesn't have to be a lifelong commitment and you can always move on to something else if your first choice doesn't meet your needs. Also like marriage, learn as much as you can about your choice before committing. Good luck on the decision & search! Dennis
  3. Never pay the asking price and don't worry too much about the cracked dash. Mine has been cracked for about 35 years and the car is still as fun to drive as when it was new Dennis
  4. It's been years since I've checked Classifieds. Ebay tends to be my "Go to" used parts source. As for the Hybridz.org method of posting to Classifieds, one MUST be a Donating member of the forum in order to post items for sale. If you don't donate financially, you can look, but not sell. When they changed to that mode, there was quite a bit of complaining a few years ago. Dennis
  5. If you get the reproduction chrome trim pieces that cover that area and attach through the holes in the lenses, no worries about the black lines. Your originals are removed. Ebay and MSA are your friends for that task. Dennis
  6. The Quarter Mile test works for me. Plus, if made from old slicks, the trim pieces could be marketed as "Speed Equipment". No downside. My apologies to those who come to this forum looking only for serious advice. Dennis
  7. Bumper trim made of tread cut from used racing slicks would probably look better. Or, even more impressive, snow tires Dennis
  8. I've bought a few hard to find early Z items from Datsun Spirit over the years. Good service, able to get "unobtainium" type parts, OK prices, and good communication on orders. One man's opinion. Dennis

    Stahl retiring

"Twin Pipes" would be a perfect title if the flow through on this topic remains unrestricted. Dennis
  10. Didn't know that MSA had the screw for the handle. I'll be picking one up the next time I stop there. Thanks for the tip. Dennis
  11. If you do, I hope you have tiny fingers and tiny tools. That's a very small set screw. BTW, I need one, too, for the last 32 years. Dennis
  12. Nice looking alternative style. I like the flow of the body lines. Sort of the "Shooting Brake" body style that's been around forever and used by Jaguar and Ferrari recently. Dennis
  13. Might be a bit high. I had the unit that MSA sells installed with electric fan for about $1,600 a few years ago in SoCal. The unit you're looking at may be more expensive, but installation cost should be about the same for any unit. Dennis
  14. [quote=73str86;461267 Is there a video size limit for these forums? I want to take a good quality video of my current exhaust before I change it a little. If the video is too large, you could load it on YouTube and just post a link to it on this fourm. Dennis
  15. Vinyl, plastic, rubber flooring is typical of utility vehicles like pick up trucks and your FJ as it's easier to clean/hose the crud and corruption up after work or play. The Z generally doesn't go off roading, intentionally, or carry construction supplies. So, they came with carpet. Have you tried generic rubber mats from WalMart or your FLPS? They could fit over or replace floor carpet. The rear deck carpet replacement will be a little harder to source. Dennis
  16. Like the tree that falls in the forest when no one is there to hear it fall, it would have gone unheard. Dennis
  17. Who WOULDN'T want a 260Z 2+2 with automatic? Does it have mud flaps? No offense meant to any current owners of such a car in this group. Dennis
  18. ARA unit installed by a Chevrolet dealer shortly after I sought the Z new in '71. Dennis
  19. Glad you have the ash tray. That saves you a few hundred dollars. As others have mentioned, if the car has been sitting for years, change the brake fluid, Trans fluid, oil, get rid of the old gas. My Z had been sitting for about 15 years in storage and I changed all the fluids, plugs, plug wires, fuel lines, brake calipers, fan belts, air & gas filters, and gave it a tune up. Lots of crud in the gas tank. Good luck with the project, and as you start pouring money into it, remember that the car was free. Dennis
  20. Welcome to the group! Glad to see another early Z in Palm Springs, besides mine. From the pictures, it looks like just about everything needing attention is fixable or replaceable. The ash tray that covers the fuse box will be a little pricey, but they show up on ebay from time to time. If you need the name of a good local mechanic for mechanical and electrical issues, let me know and I'll give you the name of the place that works on mine. He also installed the A/C on my '71, in case you decide you need it for the 108 degree weather. Dennis

    Rotsun

Entertaining. Making something from nothing is always fun to watch. There was no pretense, no flash, and no made up drama. Just a couple guys with a goal. Dennis
  22. This thread has strayed so far from the original topic that it's neither informative nor pleasant to be a participant. It's dead to me and I'm moving on. Dennis
