  1. He also says, "idk know anything else really". As someone famous once said, "We hold these truths to be self evident". Dennis
  2. Welcome! Haven't noticed the acceleration jerk on my '71 during the last 42 years, so can't help you there. As for blue plates, California is working on reissuing blue, and even black, plates. So just Google California blue plates for more info or check the DMV web site. As for the orange air cleaner housing, eBay and Pick A Part will be your best source. You can also look at the parts for sale section of this forum. Dennis

    Cobra Z

Thanks for the additional pictures - looks like more than a little time was spent polishing up the engine compartment. Dennis

    Cobra Z

Interesting front end. Any more pictures from other angles? Dennis
  5. Nice! No broken posts on the chrome trim strips? Dennis
  6. I have two of the 10 - a Z and an Avanti - and sold the Mustang GT Fastback a couple years ago. Valuations seem somewhat inflated in the article, however. Dennis
  7. Not sure which is a bigger mess - the Z or the chick with tats. Either one would be a huge, costly, project. Dennis
  8. I agree with those who mentioned pulling the rotor. I've done it for over 40 years. You can remove the coil to distributor wire instead. Either is quick, easy, and free. Dennis
  9. It was hard. When I bought mine in 1971, there was a nine month waiting list...and no color choice. You took what rolled off the boat or it went to the next guy on the list and you waited for the next delivery. It was possible to "buy" your way up the list by paying about 20% over sticker price - which is what I did because I had just returned from overseas and needed a car. Fast forward 42 years and that same Z is parked in my driveway making me feel as good as when it was new and in the showroom. Dennis
  10. Grey sounds good - a light dove grey so as not to be a stark contrast, more of a shadow. I agree with you on not doing the panel between hood and bumper. Sounds like an interesting project. Dennis
  11. Have you tried Photoshopping in the color on a picture to see how it would look? Dennis
  12. Have you Googled "dry ice dent repair"? You'll get links To about a bazillion YouTube videos and DIY accounts about the process. Dennis
  13. As others have noted,139,000 is probably more accurate. Although, the original style hoses and clamps are rare on well used Zs. In addition to the reprint, the hood emblem has been removed and the holes filled. Aftermarket door mirror has been added. The air cleaner housing appears to have been repainted. Have you run a magnet down the body to check for body filler in the usual rust locations? That said, you'll have a fun project ahead. Enjoy the final product! I bought my Z in 1971 when I was in the Air Force and still find. It to be a great car. Dennnis
  14. Have you pulled the injectors to check their spray pattern? Dennis
  15. Welcome newbie. What type/year Z are you interested in? Dennis
  16. Are the lenses made with holes to allow use/mounting of the chrome trim strips? Dennis
  17. It's the one I saw on Velocity a few days ago. They sometimes, very rarely, substitute a show and don't change the listing. When I saw it, I clicked on the on-screen info to see what it was and noted that a different show was listed. Dennis
  18. Yes, it's belt driven. When they go bad, they are often removed by owners rather than replaced. No power steering on the early Zs. Dennis
  19. Time to start learning about Zs. The part you removed and called a power steering pump was most likely the SMOG pump - unless you took off the alternator or an A/C compressor. Get a Haynes manual for the Z. It seems like you may be in over your head with your new 42 year old car. Dennis
  20. Welcome to the group! What's the build date on your '71? Dennis
  21. No idea of the name and I'm unable to access yesterday's TV schedule on line. I looked to see if it would be on next week, but nothing listed. A mystery. Time to dig up a copy of TV Guide to see if it's listed. Dennis
  22. I saw it. It was on Velocity. Also showed a large collection of European collector cars in Japan. I'm watching waaayyyy too much TV as I recover from a broken collar bone. Can't wait to drive again. Dennis
  23. I don't think that boat's going to sail. If you stop to think about why people originally bought a Z, it wasn't so they could carry three friends along for the ride. The 2+2 filled a need, but at a cost as you noted above. The two seater is the one with demand. I doubt that there were any high school kids drawing Datsun 2+2 sketches on their notebook covers during Social Studies class back in the 1970s. Opinions may vary. :classic: Dennis
  24. Do it! Got mine from MSA. There are lots of threads on the topic if you search the forum for"air conditioning kits". Dennis
