  1. Out of curiosity, why don't you want to use the power antenna? Dennis
  2. Probably because you never put one on before and I put mine on 42 years ago Dennis
  3. If there's no guide hole in the air dam to get you started, just use "C" clamps to hold it in a place while you center it and drill mounting holes. Dennis
  4. Welcome to the Group! Always good to see another '71 getting back on the road - especially one that's almost 20 years older than its owner Dennis
  5. The original plastic ones in my '71 Z lasted 40 years. If the replacement set of plastic ones from Nissan last as long, I'm sure I'll never replace them again, either Dennis
  6. Shouldn't be a problem at the local dealership. The parts counter guy looked up the parts and had the top two bushings in stock and the bottom pivot within 48 hours. Dennis
  7. Second link doesn't seem to work for me either. Lots of "http://"s in both links. Dennis
  8. Have you tried contacting Nissan to ask about what they did with the early Z metal stamping dies? Here's a link to an article about a company that stamps out all the sheet metal parts for the '57 Chevrolet - a bit pricey. How to Retool and Build New '57 Chevy Bodies for Fun and Profit - Column - Car Reviews - Car and Driver Dennis
  9. I'm guessing a call to MSA could answer that question since they sell the wheels and the various caps. When I bought my 15" Rewinds from them, they didn't suggest any of the other caps as a suitable fit for the front dust cap problem. Perhaps they have something new since then for the 16" wheels if clearance is a problem. Let us know what you find out. Dennis
  10. For many years, I had the expanded metal mesh in place of the stock grille when I had fog lights behind the bumper. It was cut larger than the stock grille mounting points and then the edge was folded over all the way around to make a double layer. Then screws were put through to secure it to the stock mounting points. I painted it flat black. It sat back a bit so the fog lights could sit on a panel mounted to the back side of the bumper - kind of a shelf. It looked good IMO. Good luck with the project and be sure to post pictures of the final install. Dennis
  11. Check your local metal supply house, or Lowes/Home Depot for this: http://www.industrialmetalsupply.com/products/expanded-sheet Dennis
  12. Expecting auto manufacturers to store and maintain the dies for the sheet metal of every model from every model year is probably a little unreaalistic. Dies wear out and are discarded. As mentioned above, auto manufacturers make their only from making new cars. Aftermarket companies find a niche based on enthusiast demaand and fill it with offshore parts of varying quality. When the demand is there someone will eventually fill it if there's. a buck to be made. Denis
  13. So, how much should an autograph add to the value of any car? I know there are a lot of "signed" Shelby Cobras that are probably worth more than the "unsigned" variety. Dennis
  14. Interesting to see a 43 year old $30K "rare" Datsun listed on Craigslist. I tend to think of CL more as a shopping venue for low cost bargains. Anyone here buy a Z on Craigslist in the past? Dennis
  15. Aircraft fuel tank sealant would do the job, but if the tank fill hose is springing one leak, it may be wise to put in a new one before a larger problem develops. Dennis
  16. How much do you plan to spend? I tend to agree with the earlier comment suggesting that you buy something safe & reliable and consider the Z as your 2nd "fun" car. Dennis
  17. They are from early Zs. There's currently a pair on ebay with the bid at $60 and Buy It Now at $100. They often sell for less than that depending on condition and if the mounting studs are still in place. Dennis
  18. What's the date of manufacture on the ID plate located on the driver's door jamb - or the VIN? Dennis
  19. Looks like the beginning of a good project! I note a few missing pieces like the bumpers, bright trim on the windshield and hatch glass, windshield wipers, hood emblem, and the emblem that covers the ventilation hole that appears to be filled in on the upper rear quarter - nothing that will keep you off the road if you can find a place to hang a front license plate. No visible holes through the body sheet metal is a big plus. The other good news is that everything that appears to be missing is fairly easy to get from vendors, a wrecking yard, or ebay - albeit at a cost a bit above your $100 budget mentioned earlier. Power on with getting that Z back on the road! Dennis
  20. Nice job! Looks like you achieved matching the look of the Mazda dash as intended. With it in place in the car, how's the view of the instrument pod from the driver's seat? Dennis
  21. The reserve hasn't been met, yet, so I suppose the "bidder" could run it up by bidding against himself to just under the reserve price and then safely stop bidding. Gotta love ebay auctions. Dennis
  22. The Z may look dirty, but the seller says the title is clean. Dennis

The 3rd picture. I'll try to get a picture of mine posted for you - sorry for the delay. Dennis
  24. Good luck with your $100 "get it running" budget. It appears that the mechanical fuel pump has been removed and blocked off - indicating an electric pump somewhere in the system. You may need a new pump after 20 years of sitting. However, since the seller said it ran perfectly 20 years ago, you're probably good to go. At a minimum, plan on changing all filters, all fluids, a few hoses, spark plug wires and distributer cap, probably a brake cylinder or two, I could go on. Having done this after my '71 Z sat for 15 years, I could really go on. Good luck with the process and keep us posted. Always nice to see another '71 back on the road. Dennis
  25. My error if they're round top. I plead "old eyes". Dennis
