  1. Thank you. I now feel better about using the substandard equipment that has worked so well for me for over 40 years. Dennis
  2. Agree. They've worked, and held up, nicely for me and my Z since 1971. I understand differing opinions. Everyone likes what works for them. Dennis
  3. That could explain the troublesome "fumes in the passenger compartment" issue associated with many Zs. Dennis
  4. Interesting idea. The Z is about a foot longer than the Cobra, but there's less than an inch difference in wheel bases. Front tracks are within a half inch, but the Cobra has a 4 inch greater rear track. Dennis
  5. Wow! Very nice looking fix. This could open up career opportunities if your day job doesn't work out. Dennis
  6. My current A/C kit from MSA has that type of controller and uses a rotary compressor. It replaces the original unit I installed on my '71 in back in 1972. That unit used a York compressor and had a different control switch box that attached to the side of the center console. The original unit was an ARA brand after market install. Dennis
  7. I have the MSA A/C on my '71. It was installed a couple years ago to replace the older unit I had installed in '72. My mechanic did the installation, so I can't provide "hands on" installation advice. He did, however, say it was straight forward and installed with no surprises. It's a much more compact look under the hood - especially after removing the previous York compressor. It cools well in desert heat. Dennis
  8. Welcome to the Group! Let's hope you don't have to use ALL of the knowledge on this forum. But feel free to search and ask when you need help. Dennis
  9. Gotta love Hawaii - especially in the winter! But, where is the closest Pick-A-Part? Dennis
  10. Sending units are often the problem with low or inaccurate readings. However, you mentioned that you swapped out the sending unit. Did you install a new one or a previously used one? Did the gauge react the same with the original sender? Dennis
  11. "Jim, that is awesome! I've got to stop at the Borders book store tomorrow to pick up a copy. Congratulations" Be sure to check out the BIG sale at Circuit City on your way to Borders. Dennis
  12. Hi David, welcome to the Group! Looks like you have a great start to the project. What are your plans for the Z? Keep us posted. Dennis
  13. Welcome to the Group! Always good to see another '71 Z on the list. In 1971, I bought my Z after returning from SEA, including visits to RVN, too. Dennis
  14. Let's try the trunk of this Bluebird... http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/nissan/auction-434127461.htm Dennis
  15. Just a guess....But if the volcanic rock scent removal method really worked, Hawaii would smell like nothing Dennis
  16. Welcome! Always nice to see another '71 added to the Group. Dennis
  17. Someday, I will learn to do a background check on a poster's Z before responding. Thanks for keping me honest. I keep forgetting that all Zs don't have carbs........:stupid: Dennis
  18. They will certainly make the Z more aerodynamic, but I doubt that you'll recoup your $70 investment from increased mileage any time soon. If you like the covers, buy them. Adjusting the carbs and gapping the spark plugs will probably be as effective for increasing MPG - and those only require time, not money. 2¢ Dennis
  19. Welcome Ryan! Not sure what a MS1 is, but since it's at UCLA, it must be good. Let us know how the project goes. Dennis
  20. Armature night? Methinks you're spending too much time with your car...... "In electrical engineering, an armature generally refers to one of the two principal electrical components of an electromechanical machine–generally in a motor or generator." Yes, I know what you meant...just poking a little end of year fun at you. Best wishes for a Happy and Prosperous New Year! Dennis
  21. Easier if you lived in Nashville, more expensive and complicated if you plan to jet in to see the car and arrange transportation to port and shipping to Germany followed by trucking to Austria - or hiring an agent to accomplish all the transportation tasks and paperwork. Having shipped a couple cars to Austria, I speak from experience. On the other hand, if you like an adventure, power on. Let us know how it turns out. Dennis
  22. Check with my friend Reinhard Funke in Krems. He deals primarily in Porsches, but has other sports cars and may be able to help you find or import a Z. His web site is: www.zum-FUNKE.com Tell him Dennis from California sent you. Dennis
  23. Generally, the less you pay upfront, the more you pay later. Find a good driver within your budget or plan on saving a bit more so you can buy a better car that will require less repairs. Have you checked on shipping fees to Greece? Dennis
  24. Five months is a long time. Is the Z parked inside or outside where sunshine can warm the car? The sun's heat does wonders for helping to compress the door seals. Granted, it gets a little warmer here in the desert than in Ventura. Dennis
  25. Another reason to give up atheism is an enormous lack of special days when you eat good food and get presents. To me, that's ample reason to belong to several religions simultaneously, rather than none at all. Dennis
