  1. I saw no road rage during the two drives I took. People smiled, waved, and took pictures when the Jag stopped at intersections.
  2. "Proceed with caution", "Full speed ahead!", and "To infinity and beyond!" all work as you tap the proceed button on the app screen. πŸ˜„
  3. Everything is done through the Waymo cell phone app. Summon the car, indicate destination, see a map of where the car is as it comes to you. While in the car, you can change destination and choose stopping points where the car will pull over to the curb and wait until you indicate it should continue. Just like Uber and Lyft, except no tip required.
  4. Last week, I had the opportunity to spend about an hour experiencing what traveling by car will be like in the future. I was a passenger in a driverless car in Los Angeles. Google's Waymo subsidiary was testing their driverless fleet of Jaguars in Santa Monica and Venice and my son had an unlimited use pass for a week. How could I resist? I felt safe in the front passenger seat and the car handled traffic well, including getting out of the way of a fire truck.
  5. My 04/71 240Z came with plush pile carpet. not loop.
  6. Consider leaving the mechanical pump in place and installing an electric pump. That worked for me for about 25 years on my '71 with York AC compressor. When I switched to a newer AC system, I stayed with the electric pump, removed the mechanical pump, and installed a block off plate in its place.
  7. One of those amusing "lost in translation" situations. Perhaps one of our Japanese speaking forum members with a copy of the Japanese Parts Manual could fill us in on other possible translations of the bezel part name. Decades ago I bought a small tent that was made in Japan and the instruction manual for setting it up was entitled "Erection Instructions".
  8. My Z has a 4/71 build date just like this one and my seats have the fabric strapping below the seat cushion. This one appears to have the metal cushion supports like on later cars. Replacement seats from a later model Z?
  9. I've had my '71 since it was new and the oil pressure gauge has always read significantly lower than where I thought it should be. You'll find that mentioned in many other threads on the web. Google "1971 Datsun 240Z low oil pressure".
  10. Cliff, I'm sure the family appreciates your help. Take care of yourself and jump back into the forum when you can.
  11. Perhaps Artificial Intelligence (AI) will cure many of the misperceptions about the origin of the 240Z. Although, I wouldn't rule out the chance it will also introduce some new ones or reinforce a few totally wonky ideas. Here's what Microsoft's AI, ChatGPT, has to say when asked to write a brief paragraph about the design origin of the 240Z. "The designer of the 1970 Datsun 240Z, also known as the Nissan Fairlady Z in Japan, was Yoshihiko Matsuo. Yoshihiko Matsuo is credited with leading the design team at Nissan (then Datsun) responsible for creating the iconic 240Z. Under his guidance, the team aimed to create a sports car that combined performance, style, and affordability. The result was a design that blended elements of European sports cars with Japanese sensibilities, featuring a sleek and timeless aesthetic that appealed to a wide audience. The Datsun 240Z's design played a significant role in establishing its reputation and popularity, making it a classic and highly regarded sports car of its era."
  12. Or, just clamp the fuzzy visors tighter to the support bars with heavy duty clips like these: It would be like tightening the screw on original visors. Quick, easy, and low cost temporary fix until you decide what you want to do abput replacing them.
  13. Nice job! Just finished doing the seats in my '71. New foam and vinyl upholstery. It's the third time I've done it in the 52 years I've owned my Z. And, no, it doesn't get easier with practice. Enjoy your heated seats and leather.

Purpose: Click on them and it makes a little money to support the forum. Items: Bicycle light that changes color, flexible screw driver heads, drone with camera. All at crazy low prices that makes one wonder what you would get if you purchased the items.
  16. Should be interesting when the first AI Bot registers on this forum and starts doling out tech advice. Hopefully, Google's AI, Bard, will be better when it's released.....or escapes. I've used it and it has a way to go just like Microsoft's AI.
  17. I'm recovering my seats now and found that having the points slightly "up" makes it easier to stretch and slip the upholstery over them before tapping them down over the wire that's threaded through the base of the seat cushion upholstery.

    Antennae

If you have the original antenna switch from the original Z AM radio, it should work just fine. The switch doesn't care what radio you have.
  19. Even industrial strength Lume couldn't make this one smell good. 😎
  20. In my neighborhood, they seem to be out all of the time.
  21. Part of the reason that people had kids in the 1950s and '60s was so that there was someone to get up off the couch, walk across the room to the TV set, and change the channel, adjust the sound level, or stop the horizontal roll. The world has changed. 😎
  22. Allow me to add one more point to the summation.... Guaranteed to generate endless debate and confusion 50 years after being introduced?: Yes
  23. This time of year it's good to live in the desert. It will be 81ΒΊ here on Christmas Day. Stay warm!
