  1. Haven't seen that picture with the load sensors under the tires before. I'm guessing Nissan has a larger wind tunnel now. But it's interesting to see "state of the art" 1971. I've been in Porsche's previous Weissach wind tunnel and it was much larger. I think the new one is even bigger - good for everything from bicycles to vehicles larger than cars. Dennis
  2. Congrats on the long term relationship! There must be some very good memories and stories to reflect upon. My Z and I celebrate our 47th in November. Dennis
  3. No, common sense would dictate that such an event is NOT normal. Otherwise, the highways would be littered with cars by the side of the road and race cars would never finish a race. Cause? Loose hose clamp, defective hose clamp, improperly installed hose and clamp, Act of God. Dennis
  4. Calculated risk. The various test cities were part of the "proof of concept" program which was put in place to learn what could go right and what could go wrong. Everyone was aware that there could/would be fatalities due to pedestrian and vehicle accidents. Uber must have had to provide a huge insurance policy. I wonder how difficult it will be to get states and cities to host the tests now. Dennis
  5. It was part of a test to see what could go wrong, after all. I'm sure Uber will have a lot of data to review after the lawsuit. As for driving in the Philippines, I did that for a year and a half and mostly had to dodge pigs, chickens, and guys with guns. Dennis
  6. You've been trying to adjust a modified engine to stock factory settings. That can be like trying to fit a size 12 foot into a size 10 shoe. The process of tuning the engine/carbs results in adjustments to settings to a point where it runs best. Sounds like you're finally just about there. Button that baby up and head out on the highway! Dennis
  7. There's a nice one on Amazon for less than $80. I may have to look into getting one of those, myself. My 45 year old non-digital dwell tachometer is probably a bit out of calibration at this point. Any brand recommendations? Dennis
  8. All part of the "growing pains" of any emerging technology. As they used to say in the early days of passenger flight back when flight attendants also had to be Registered nurses, "If God wanted us to fly, we woudda been born with boarding passes.".
  9. It would be interesting to look through 100 year old newspapers to see if the same type of conversations occurred when cars started replacing horse & buggy transportation. I guess we got through that in about a 25 year transition period. Dennis
  10. And that's why later ads had the black center spokes painted over grey closer to original rather than the black as first shown on eBay and CL? Sorry, not buying his new sincerity. Did he happen to say anything about refunding his customers? Dennis
  11. At this point, my eyes are beginning to bleed and Jalex is no closer to having a smooth running Z. Measurements and calculations just aren't working for him. I think Chuck's upcoming pictures may help more than anything. Dennis
  12. We seem to be flogging the deceased equine at this point. Jalex has asked for a picture about a half dozen times. He's not a native English speaker and appears to be a visual learner. Since I've been a credentialed teacher for 50 years, I'd like to make a suggestion. We need to visually define terms. We need to use one of the carb pictures and place an arrow point at the spot that we refer to as a NOZZLE. A top view would be best. Next we need to show a ruler graduated in 1/16 inch increments and indicate where 1/16 of an inch would be indicated. Finally, a carb diagram side view indicating where the 1/16 inch should be (difference between top of nozzle and top of fuel level). Then we can have a "check for understanding" moment and press on. Can someone use the pictures on this page to indicate that information? I think it would be a big help in moving this process along. Dennis
  13. www.iprcenter.gov might be a good place to start for anyone ripped off. Dennis
  14. I recently read a story about Nissan cracking down on counterfeit and "out the back door" parts shipped to the US. Wonder if they'd be interested in this rip off of their trademark. Dennis
  15. Seller offers a 14 day return policy....but with a 10% restocking fee. Sounds like a win/win for the seller on a $1,000 sale either way. Dennis
  16. Just when I thought we were nearing closure. Dennis
  17. Only concerns are termites and dry rot. Nice looking fun car, otherwise. Dennis
  18. Maybe it's time to think about converting to the early style Z bumper which, although pricey, is readily available in chrome or stainless steel. I realize there's a budget involved. But is sounds like a viable option unless someone finds a correct well used one at a pick-a-part. Dennis
  19. Although the hubcap seller has a very good positive rating on ebay, when you look at the individual positive rating scores they're based on ratings from people he bought from, not sold to. Very few sales, many many purchases. I wonder what he's going to do with a warehouse full of poorly reproduced early Datsun hubcaps now that the word is out. Dennis
  20. In all the years, did.the Z ever run smoothly and with adequate power? Not sure if that was ever mentioned or if it's had this problem the whole time since it got off the boat.
  21. Give me a few minutes and I can type up an even better build sheet. Unfortunately, it may not accurately reflect the actual engine. If you go to the California Datsun web site, he still mentions that his engines are done by an engine builder in Riverside, CA - just like on the flyer. There's a warehouse along the 60 Freeway that has advertised rebuilt Japanese engines for many years - it may be the supplier. I think the big thing is the reputation of the seller and California Datsun has a poor one. Include me on the list of those who suspect issues other than the carbs may be contributing to the poor performance. Dennis
  22. My first clue that everything was accomplished with a high level of precision and perfection was that there are TWO #10 entries on the "Rebuild Process" list. Dennis
  23. Sound advice. But, like so much sound advice that's been offered to solve the Panamanian Zs problems over the last several years, my guess is that it will NOT be heeded. And that's a shame. The carb float problem has been diagnosed to death and the advice has been pretty much ignored. I'll be interested to see how much longer people will be willing to help. Dennis
  24. I've run Carter and inexpensive Facet pumps on my Z for 40 years. Both have worked well until "end of life" necessitates replacement. Even the stock mechanical pump was adequate until I chose to go electric for no particular reason other than the newer Zs had electric pumps. Dennis
