  1. Mine hit, I trimmed a bit off of the console where it hit, and covered the new gap with the shift lever boot so it's not noticeable. Common problem solved....for me at least. Dennis
  2. Nice, relatively accurate, article. I would have preferred pictures of a Z with stock wheels and hubcaps instead of aftermarket alloys. But, that's just me. Dennis

Let's poke holes.......the description says it has a 383 engine from a '71 Corvette under the hood. To the best of my knowledge, no '71 Corvette had a 383 engine - only 350 or 454 blocks. I suppose the right buyer with a pocket full of cash, for instance Kermit the Frog, might like the color and rear spoiler. Good luck to the seller and the buyer. Dennis
  4. Sorry to interrupt your line of questioning, but help me understand what you're trying to do. I'm having a little trouble understanding your idle speed issue. Idle should be 800 RPM without AC. When aftermarket AC is installed on a Z, it's recommended to raise idle RPM to 1000. That's because it will drop to around 800 RPM (optimum RPM) when the AC compressor kicks in. If one were to NOT raise it to 1000 RPM when installing AC, idle would drop to around 600 RPM for a no bueno driving experience. I know you have a non-stock cam and other modifications on your car. What was idle set at when you got the car and before AC was installed....1000, 800, somewhere in between? A Z is supposed to be fun to drive and after reading about the problems you've experienced with your Z for years, I have to ask. Do you have an exit plan for this car? Dennis

The description on those LED lights says they last 25 times longer than incandescents. Since my original factory installed incandescent bulbs have worked nicely for 46 years I'd be good for another 1,000+ years if I switched over. Might be worth the effort. Dennis

    Same for my 4/71. Dennis

Check Amazon for a similar product at about half the price: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ZVHMSZC?psc=1 I've also heard of using lawn chair rewebbing kits which are even less expensive if cost is an issue. Dennis

Spoken like a true 16 year old! Keep up the good work, but be prepared for comments and advice when you post your updates. Posting to this forum is kind of like writing a letter to "Dear Abby". You may get sound advice you don't want to hear. Just keep in mind that you're going to get comments backed by a few thousand years of Datsun Z ownership experience. Take the advice you like and blow off the rest, you're 16, we've all been there. Dennis

However, in many ways engineers are like pilots. There are old pilots and there are careless pilots. But, there are no old careless pilots. Like most 16 year olds he's probably not going to take sound and reasonable advice from old experienced adults. Maybe there should be a new forum on this site where teens with Zs can bounce wild ideas and schemes off of each other. Dennis

I like the clay bar because it clears the tiny debris you can't see off of the paint. The paint surface feels soooo slippery and slick after going over it with clay. Not sure it makes the paint any shinier after waxing, but certainly makes it feel smoother to the touch. Dennis
  12. So the $550 "No Sale" one on eBay is now offered here for $700? My little mind is beginning to spin. I can't wait until it's listed on Amazon for $2000. Dennis

An extra "s" in desert, perhaps an extra "0" in $2000. My little mind spots a trend. Dennis

Kind of like the guy who worked in the elephant circumcision department at the Ringling Brothers circus used to say, "Pay's not good, but the tips are big". P

Welcome to the Group! Gotta love the '71 Z. Dennis
  16. Except for the lack of decals on the air cleaner housing, it looks pretty much like the one on my '71. Dennis

Or, if it doesn't sell on Craigslist and you don't want to be bothered with eBay, consider donating to Goodwill or another charitable organization for the tax write off. Like others have said, nice stuff...just 20 or 30 year too late. Dennis

Likely not, but brave to use the Maserati logo and brand name as part of their their own identity. So, either not the sharpest pencil in the box or enjoys poking the bear. Speaking from personal experience, there is no joy in getting the registered "stop what you're doing" letter from a European car company's US legal team. Dennis

Nice! I bet the rats are really going to miss it. Dennis
  20. I noticed that, too. It does say "Clear Title? in the description, however. Dennis
  21. It's kind of like a "mine is bigger than yours" mind game and is only meaningful to those who play the game. A lower VIN is only more valuable if you think it is. And the owner of a low VIN is only as important as he and the other players think he is. Easy! Dennis
  22. Interesting to look at the bid history. Initial listing was for $0.99 and the first bidder was a brave soul who jumped in and took over with a bid of $1.00. Then, he stayed out for 45 minutes before coming back with a $3,100 bid. He then had a proxy bid that kept him in until $7,600 a half hour later. This will be fun to watch. Dennis
  23. The Parts Department at your local Nissan dealer should be able to get all the float bowl gaskets you need. Cost was $1.70 each last time I bought some. Dennis

Pictures of the Hyundai side marker lights are posted at: One picture shows a marker temporarily installed to show almost flush fit. As with most Zs, mine has been a never ending work in progress........ for the last 45 years. When I got the Hyundai lenses, my plan was to use them. I have since picked up a set of Datsun markers with clear lenses and colored bulbs that I'll probably eventually use after new paint. Sorry for the picture and partial install quality, but it's a hot day in the desert and I didn't spend as much time getting the perfect shot as I could have a couple months ago. Dennis
