  1. Seems like a give-away price. Curious about it being on eBay as well as CL It will certainly go for more than $2500 on eBay. Dennis
  2. Now, all you need is a poster to print that message on. It will sell millions of copies for years. You'll be wealthy beyond your wildest dreams! Dennis
  3. Used covers with "replacement" mounting hardware, reserve not met, and days to go before the bidding ends. This should be fun to watch. Dennis
  4. When you see lots of visible rust coming through the paint, beware of what you don't see. As others have said, not a $14K car. For that money, you could do better. Dennis
  5. Thanks for sharing that information. My pleasure. The gas tank in the Avanti sits between the trunk and the back of the back seat and above the differential with the filler on the "C" pillar. In a rear ender, the tank won't get pushed into the differential and punctured as with the infamous flaming Pinto. As we like to say about our Avantis, they were ahead of their time for 1963 - even came with seatbelts and a built in roll bar for crash protection. Dennis
  6. For the sake of Pinto history accuracy, the fuel filler was on the left rear fender. The problem with the fires in accidents had to do with lack of protective structure around the gas tank and tank location that allowed it to burst on rear impact. Court cases referenced the 1963 Studebaker Avanti as an example of the correct way to place and protect the tank for cars of that era to avoid external combustion. Dennis
  7. As the Bard sort of said, "To buy, or not to buy. That is the question." It's always the question. The Z looks good if it doesn't adversely impact your personal or financial life. On the other hand, it's really easy to acquire too many projects. Ask me how I know. Dennis
  8. Yup, that's probably a better use of your dollars. The total cost of my Z was actually $4,200 as I had to pay above sticker to move to the top of the waiting list and not wait nine months for a car. The good old days. Dennis
  9. For perspective, keep in mind that 46 years ago $3.7K was about six months' pay at my reasonably good job. Today, I could buy a nicely optioned 2017 370Z for a little less than six months pay. So, it's all relative. BTW, if you're paying that much for a bucket of......... in 2017, I can get it for you a little cheaper Dennis
  10. November 1971.... St. Paul, Minnesota. I had just returned from living in the Philippines for a year and a half and needed a car. I had taken a new Pontiac Gran Prix SJ to the Philippines and sold it there before I left. On a stop in Tokyo on the way back to the States, I saw a Fairlady on display in a window on the Ginza. A lasting memory. While I had considered getting a Volvo 1800 or a Lotus when I returned, the 240Z was just too unique and exciting to pass up. Unfortunately, at that time, there was a nine month waiting list for 240Zs at every Datsun dealership. However, I found a dealership that allowed me to buy my way to the top of the waiting list and drive off in a new 1971 Datsun 240Z for just 15% over sticker price. Now, 46 years later, that Z is parked in my driveway and if it wasn't 110º outside, I'd take it for a spin. Dennis
  11. Do a Google search for "1973 Appliance slotted mags" and you'll see lots of them. Popular wheel for many types of cars in that era. Dennis
  12. Don't forget a CB antenna to complete that 70s vibe Breaker, breaker, this is Z-Dog lookin' for Smokies. Dennis
  13. I think the 280zx injector cooling blower is the remedy. Anyone differs? ............................................................................................................................................................................................................... Perhaps it's a language problem. I asked a couple questions about troubleshooting and your ability to connect with other Nissan owners in Panama. In your response, you quoted my questions and then answered with a question about an injector cooling blower. WTF! (Spanish translation available upon request). Ya no puedo ayudarte. Dennis
  14. This has been an ongoing problem for a long time and I don't remember all of the remedies you've tried other than fuel pump and fuel lines, so excuse me if you've already tried what follows. Have you tried letting the Z idle in a shaded spot with the hood open all the way and an external fan blowing down on the carbs to push heat build up away and then revving the engine when it gets to operating temperature to see if it stumbles? That could confirm or eliminate the fuel percolation aspect. Have you connected with any of the Nissan clubs in Panama? Dennis
  15. I've had good luck with Rit Dye when returning the black color to the 46 year old carpet on the cargo shelf on my Z over the years. Dennis
  16. Soooo, the only question should be, "Which do I like more, the Z or $8,000 in my checking account?". Dennis
  17. What's the asking price? Dennis
  18. Don't forget that the rear wheels/tires can be spares for flat up front if you put the small holed spare on the rear and rotate a good rear to replace a flat up front. Had that some issue with a set of alloys many years ago, Just have to jack the car twice instead of once. Dennis
  19. Looks like you're having one of those "When it rains, it pours." times we all experience in life. Stay strong, stay focused, time is a good healer. Keep in touch on this forum. Dennis
  20. The first modification I made to my '71 Z in 1972 was to add a BRE Spook. I did that after severe lifting in crosswinds at highway speeds. Problem solved. Dennis
  21. Parked mine in the driveway and immobilized the ignition system as theft deterrent while I'm away for two weeks. Drove it to the post office yesterday to drop off taxes. The Z is such a fun car to drive even after 46 years of putting miles behind us. Dennis
  22. Who WOULDN'T want one of those split windshield beauties in their garage so they could drive it to Cars & Coffee on Saturday mornings? Dennis
  23. Just Dashes if you can deal with the cost. www.justdashes.com I had some work done on an interior pad on my Avanti and it was perfect. They've been in business for decades. Dennis
