    Paula Murphy held several speed records driving Studebakers in the early 1960s on the Bonneville salt flats and in coast to coast runs. I'm sure the STP connection goes back to when It was owned by Studebaker and she was a factory driver. Didn't know about the Datsun connection, however. I met her and a couple of the Granatelli brothers about 35 years ago at a Studebaker Avanti event. Quite a lady. Dennis

    The internet is a powerful persuader. However, rumors have a way of becoming truth if repeated enough. I always like to check out questionable claims about any topic at snopes.com. Go there and type Beneful into the search box. Also check the Beneful web site FAQs. Having recently gotten a pound puppy a few months ago, I asked the Vet for food suggestions. Food and treats which contain corn seem to be the type to avoid. Not always easy to find as corn seems to be a cheap filler in dry dog food. Our previous dog, a beagle, lived quite nicely to 15 on whatever food we gave him and whatever he could sneak off the counter or table when we didn't push things out of his reach. Trying to be a lot more careful with the cocker pup. Dogs do make life more interesting. Dennis

    Steering wheel has vented spokes, not solid. Appropriate for a low VIN '70? Nice looking G nose, however, in spite of the modification inaccuracies. I've always liked the look. Dennis

    As a couple of us with aftermarket AC have mentioned above....YOU DON'T NEED AN ELECTRIC SOLENOID TO INCREASE RPM. I've been running aftermarket AC on my '71 Z for 43 years without one - 35 years with an ARA system and the last 8 years with a rotary compressor system. If you're concerned about a 200 RPM drop when the AC kicks is, simply adjust the RPM idle speed a bit higher than it is currently. Problem solved. Dennis

    Looks like we both had the same question. If OP designates Optional, was it a dealer installed item or did the the factory assembly line guy get to choose? Or was it just a "dress up part" that could be purchased over the parts counter at the dealer? We did that dealer upgrade as a gift for our son's Scion tC. Dennis

    Reading the chart, the Applied Model for the skin knob is "OP 4 Speed". What does OP 4 speed mean? Another question about the leather knob some have observed: What emblem does it have - same 4 speed pattern plastic insert as the wood knob or something else? Dennis

    The wood gear shift knob was standard equipment on the early cars. It was NOT an option. You can still buy the wood knobs from Nissan, I believe, but they are new production and somewhat different in wood grain than the 1970s originals. There are threads discussing them in the message archive. Dennis

    Oil pressure sending units on Zs are notorious for reading quite low or just being inaccurate. You may want to consider replacing your sender at some point. Denni s

    Watching it now. It's a 2+2 with a bit over 2,000 miles that has been parked for years. Mice and mildew have added a little patina. He thinks the low miles will balance out the fact it's a 2+2. Dennis

    And who would "vet" the vetters and the Keeper of the Coin? The Federal government with all of its three letter agencies can't effectively vet people, so what's the chance of this group being capable of managing a multinational adventure of the scope proposed? Put me somewhere on the scale between "The Voice of Reason" and "The Voice of Doom". A kind and thoughtful proposal, however, just not practical IMHO. Dennis Dennis

    You can crowd fund the dollars, but, unfortunately, not the motivation, mechanical skill, enthusiasm, and determination. Many, maybe most, of us are dreamers. We readily envision the finished project, but not what it takes to get there. That's probably the biggest reason that there aren't more fully restored Zs roaming the highways. Folks have a dream, buy the needy Z, get started, and experience the cathartic reality check. Some see the dream through to completion while most find contentment, or abandonment, at a point somewhere along the way and never get there. The money it takes to get there is just one small piece of the puzzle and not necessarily the piece that solves the puzzle. Yes, I'm one of those who sees the glass as half empty. Dennis

    What's the temperature range on your thermostat and when was it last checked/changed? Dennis

    I would check to see which way the electric fan blade is turning. Is it blowing cool outside air into the engine compartment and through the radiator or pulling hot air out? As for overheating, when I've had that problem in Los Angeles freeway traffic, turning the AC off and turning on the heater has brought the engine temp down. Although it makes it a little uncomfortable in the passenger compartment.Dennis

    I'd be a little concerned about the ZERO oil pressure reading, too. Didn't you install an electric fan when you added A/C? Dennis

    Actually any Urban Assault Vehicle (UAV) would be preferred for big city driving. I get into Los Angeles every few weeks in my 4X4 truck and wonder how I ever got around in that city/congested freeway traffic in my low to the ground Z many years ago. Dennis

    That looks like the can that came with mine, complete with a smear of color on the lid. Wish I knew what happened to it over the years. I used some for touch up in the mid-70s. Dennis
