  1. I liked the questioner at the end of the listing, and following the pictures of the needy interior, who asked if the clock worked. Dennis
  2. I'm OK with the Edited banner, but if it starts leaving a Grade, I'll be unhappy.
  3. Scarab or Scarab-like? No air dam, single exhaust, maybe wrong steering wheel, Recaro seats. All unScarab from what I've read about Scarabs. http://www.classiczcars.com/topic/2298-datsun-scarab-info/ Dennis
  4. 1976 still seems to be the "magic" year for SMOG awareness. There was a time when my 1963 Studebaker Avanti had to have seals placed on the carb adjusting screws after it received an "official" adjustment to the standards 40 years ago. Woe be to me of I broke the wax like seals that filled the screwdriver slot on each screw. Glad those days are gone. Twenty years ago, my '70 Porsche was the SMOG demon. It ran clean enough to pass the exhaust test, but couldn't pass the visual test due to aftermarket carbs and linkage. I ended up putting Historic plates on it which took it out of the SMOG test cycle and enabled me to drive it. Dennis

    $65K

The ad says, "Please serious buyers only". One might wonder if the owner is a "Serious seller" with a $65K asking price. I wish him luck. Dennis
  6. The Denver Yellow Z is also listed on Craigslist in Los Angeles. In that listing, the owner says he's in LA and the Z is in Denver. Dennis
  7. I like the part near the end of the 2nd one where the owner says, "Getting married and need space." Does that mean he currently keeps the Z in his bedroom or that his new wife will be staying in the garage? Dennis
  8. Street legal? No laws about bumpers in denver? I'm sure the police wouldn't notice, although they may ask about the parachute Dennis
  9. Are they cutting you a break on price for cash? Often, one can get a discount for cash rather than paying by credit card. The other thought is that they want to do the work off the books and not have to declare the income. No paper trail, no taxes. Dennis
  10. Sounds like you need to start tracing wires ftom the A/C control switch and the fan switch on the center panel to their power source. Do you have a wiring diagram? Start with a visual check to see if all the connection points are connected and them check for continuity between the fuse box and the switches. The fan control switch isn't too complicated, be sure to check the condition of the plug. You never know what's been pulled apart, bent, or broken by a previous owner.. Dennis
  11. An extra set of electric fans will help with cooling in traffic. You can wire them to come on with a thermostat or manually if you want to control them yourself. Dennis
  12. Looks like just about anything one would want in that field. Dennis
  13. Got some of that, too. My wife and son went skiing today in the local mountains - good snow and temperature in the 50s. All part of the charm of California. Years ago, to prove a point, some friends and I left the warm desert and headed up the mountain to go sledding in the snow. After sliding down the hill a few times and a quick lunch we jumped back in the car and headed for the beach and went wading in the Pacific before heading back to the desert. I don't miss the snow I grew up with in Wisconsin too much. Dennis
  14. May as well put the junked weather stripping to good use on a deserving Z. A foot of snow? Bummer. Mid 80s here today and no break in sight Dennis
  15. I'm guessing that if it had four speakers, it's stereo. You have the button that goes from side to side above the radio rather than the vertical antenna rocker switch to the right of the radio? My Z was built 4/71. Dennis
  16. One speaker for the stock AM mono radio. The first mod I made after buying mine in 1971 was to replace the radio with an AM/FM stereo aftermarket unit and add a second speaker on the right, behind the existing speaker holes. Had a little issue with mounting the power antenna rocker switch, but all worked out. Dennis
  17. Thanks for the insight. When checking the rear float bowl last week, that was one of the things I anticipated as a cause. I checked the float and it appeared to be good, not heavy, not cracked, no holes, no indication of holding fuel. Haven't checked the front float, yet. Dennis
  18. Thanks for the tips. New fuel filter, but I'm sure there's crud in the gas tank. On the rear float bowl valve, I sprayed carb cleaner through it and also checked to see if it was closing tight enough to stop gas flow. Passed. I may tear into it later today, again. Dennis
  19. There's some interesting reading on that site. I also liked the bits about show cars at the end of the model listings. They do show a Z and mention that it replaced the roadster. Dennis
  20. Actually, both float bowls are spewing fuel. I have only opened the rear float bowl to check things out at this point. As for the rear float....it does float and moves freely on its pivot. I've shot carb cleaner through the valve as well as manually held it closed to see if it would keep cleaner from spraying through - it did stop flow. Same electric fuel pump and pressure since 1977. Rain in the forecast today through Tuesday, so it will be a few days before I open both float bowls up for another look. I appreciate your troubleshooting suggestions. Dennis
  21. Thanks Mark. I'll give it a try. We're in for a few days of rain starting tonight, so it may be a "next week" project. I have a question. When the float shuts the valve and the fuel pump is still pumping, why isn't the fuel tank return line relieving the pressure that seems to be at the fuel float bowl? Might that line be blocked/clogged? Too much fun. Dennis
  22. I took the rear carb float chamber apart today to clean things up and check the condition of the float and the fuel shut off valve. I cleaned the sediment out of the bowl with the help of some spray carb cleaner, made sure the float still floated, checked the action of the inlet needle valve. I put everything back together with a new gasket. When I started it up, I still had gas puking out. It may be time to bite the bullet and ship the carbs away for a professional rebuild. Not the way I had hoped the day would go.
  23. Nothing wrong with recycling a good idea that's worked in the past. Happens in movies, music, books, clothing styles, TV shows, and many many consumer items. Now, if Nissan would just give it a try with a new Z, that would be dandy. Dennis
  24. Nice job! I'm sure you'll have eager customers if you decide to expand production. And you did this all in your spare time? Dennis
