Gee, that's a pretty big tank!
Reminds me of a "made in Japan" one man nylon mountain tent I bought about that same year. The owner's manual for setting it up was titled, "Erection Instructions". Subtile differences in meaning sometimes make it past the proofreader. Dennis

Tail Lamp Chrome Strip Molding will be offered in Sep 2013!!!
Check link below, post #122: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/open-zcar-discussion/48220-reproduction-s30-parts-nla-5.html It appears there will be another source for the tail light chrome strips - perhaps with posts. Competition benefits everyone! Dennis

Is this a good example?
A few of the things that would concern me and lead me to ask questions, or move on, are: No bumpers Where are the front turn signals? Engine compartment paint overspray Why no radio, but has antenna How recent is exterior paint and what does it hide? Dennis

Crazy steering shimmy
Double post deleted. Shame on me.

Crazy steering shimmy
I second the suggestion to change the steering rack bushings - especially if the rough steering feel happens only at certain speeds. Have you ruled out the 25 year old tires, flat spots and all, as the cause? Dennis

Original Steel Wheels
No hatch vents, holes in the steering wheel spokes, circular outside vent openings covered by round chrome emblems, tool compartments accessed through hatch doors in the cargo area floor, radio antenna vertical rocker switch, Summer/Winter flap on air cleaner snorkel as it came off the showroom floor. Original Steel Wheels
Good question. My 4/71 Z came with the "D" caps. Dennis

The original ARA bracket is made of 3/4 inch wide unpainted galvanized steel. There is a screw hole at each end (rounded ends not square corners) for mounting to the side of the engine compartment and another screw hole at the crest of the arc on the bracket. Not sure why that's there as you wouldn't put a screw into the dryer. Hope that helps with your scavenger hunt. Dennis

Yes, the bracket is similar to the coil bracket and the unit is mounted vertical so you can check the sight glass for flow & bubbles, not horizontal like the coil. Dennis

5222 unrestored
Right you are! The period correct AC compressor would have been a huge York unit on a bracket surrounding the mechanical fuel pump. The AC switch pod screwed to the side of the center console looks right for the ARA era of the early '70s. Lack of wear on the shift knob could indicate the stated mileage is correct....or the knob was replaced. The way we're picking this car apart, we should all be CSI employees Dennis

Clean interior showing little wear. The "Factory AC" comment and the picture of the Datsun Air Conditioner servicing decal are interesting. Dennis

I had the ARA unit installed on my '71Z in 1972. No switch on the drier. Dimensions: 6.75" tall not counting the sight glass on top and 2" diameter at the base. There are no engraved markings on the unit and the paper label is toast, although the # 12730 is visible at the top of what's left of the label. Unfortunately, I can't read what it refers to as the 40 year old paper is covered in crud and quite faded. Dennis

Rock Auto Hack --- finding closeout parts for Z's
Shipping charges do seem a little wonky with some vendors, but I suppose we still have the choice to buy elsewhere. On the other hand, those parts don't just jump into the boxes by themselves and labor and postage costs seem to be constantly rising. Dennis

New gauge - stock lighting?
You can remove the clock by either removing the glove box liner or the center Heat/Vent control panel. Glove box liner is probably easier. Dennis

A-R-A Air Conditioning unit with York Compressor unit from 1972
I had plenty of clearance on my ARA unit when it was installed for over 30 years. Any way for you to twist the radiator hose to change the angle? I never had to strap the hose out of the way. Once the compressor is bolted in place on its mounting bracket, it should be good to go and not interfere with any wires & hoses. Perhaps the new hose is shorter than stock. Dennis

The NICEST Z EEVVVEEERRRR-so the owner says---------------really
Interesting comment in the description: "the car does not have a title as it is not required in my state for a car of this age". Is that only in Alabama or do other states have a similar policy? How old before title no longer needed? Dennis

Tire well coolers?
Group Buy, as it says 1,000 units minimum order But, a nice Z logo instead of the Coors could be fun. Dimensions are a little wonky at 18" diameter and 10" deep. The "Clack" color doesn't translate well, however. Dennis

How do I install new Brembo (Corvette c6) 4 piston brakes on a 76' Datsun 280Z?
Seems like you may be putting the cart before the horse on this project. Instead of getting a set of brakes and then asking how to adapt them to your car, you probably should be asking, "What's a good brake set up for a Z?" and then buying those calipers. As for the 350Z engine & tranny swap.....sounds interesting, but not "plug & play". You've picked quite an ambitious task or two for your first project. Oh to be 19 again Keep us posted on progress. Grabbing JY parts- which ones to grab first?
Headlight scoops, early carbs, radio, rear speaker holder, check the tool bins, and don't forget to look for loose change under the seats. Dennis

Z history based on VIN
You can see where your VIN falls in with reported numbers at: Z Car Registry - Online Spreadsheets - EditGrid As for the Z owners in Florida not being of much help finding a Z sold in Colorado.....makes sense. Have you asked Colorado owners? Dennis

He forgot to mention "minor surface rust", the desirable aftermarket bumper overriders, and A/C, or at least A/C system remnants under the hood. Dennis
