  1. The next time in the area, I'll take a better camera and get a clearer shot. You can see the rear of the car reflected in the mirror behind it. The museum will soon be opening two additional display buildings - one with cars from Hot Rod Magazine and the other with Hot Wheels and the cars that inspired the models. The Petersen Museum in LA has some of their cars on display loan there, too. A nice Tucker was one of them. The museum hosts club meetings and events, gives free rides in their cars, and only charges $5 admission. An interesting hidden pleasure. Dennis
  2. A search didn't turn up any mention of a Z prototype that I recently saw, so I thought I'd post a picture. The Automobile Driving Museum in El Segundo, near the Los Angeles International airport has a full sized styling prototype of the 350Z on display. I was surprised at how it appeared to resemble the original Z a bit more than the final production model 350Z. Smoother lines, recessed headlights, rounded shape. It was made in 1999. Here's a link to the photo: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/album.php?albumid=496 Here's a link to the Museum: http://www.automobiledrivingmuseum.org/ It's an interesting museum that gives rides in its cars on Sundays. I got a lengthy ride in a 1926 Pontiac that had only 15,000 original miles. The Z is behind glass. Excuse the cell phone camera picture quality. Dennis

Pleating seams in vinyl upholstery that aren't stitched are dialectrically sealed - melted to give the look of stitched pleats as found in leather upholstery. I believe my '71 came from the factory with dialectrically sealed pleats. Too many reupholstery jobs over the years to remember what the originals looked like. Dennis

Thank you. I now feel better about using the substandard equipment that has worked so well for me for over 40 years. Dennis

Agree. They've worked, and held up, nicely for me and my Z since 1971. I understand differing opinions. Everyone likes what works for them. Dennis

That could explain the troublesome "fumes in the passenger compartment" issue associated with many Zs. Dennis

Interesting idea. The Z is about a foot longer than the Cobra, but there's less than an inch difference in wheel bases. Front tracks are within a half inch, but the Cobra has a 4 inch greater rear track. Dennis

Wow! Very nice looking fix. This could open up career opportunities if your day job doesn't work out. Dennis
  9. My current A/C kit from MSA has that type of controller and uses a rotary compressor. It replaces the original unit I installed on my '71 in back in 1972. That unit used a York compressor and had a different control switch box that attached to the side of the center console. The original unit was an ARA brand after market install. Dennis
  10. I have the MSA A/C on my '71. It was installed a couple years ago to replace the older unit I had installed in '72. My mechanic did the installation, so I can't provide "hands on" installation advice. He did, however, say it was straight forward and installed with no surprises. It's a much more compact look under the hood - especially after removing the previous York compressor. It cools well in desert heat. Dennis

Welcome to the Group! Let's hope you don't have to use ALL of the knowledge on this forum. But feel free to search and ask when you need help. Dennis
  12. Gotta love Hawaii - especially in the winter! But, where is the closest Pick-A-Part? Dennis
  13. Sending units are often the problem with low or inaccurate readings. However, you mentioned that you swapped out the sending unit. Did you install a new one or a previously used one? Did the gauge react the same with the original sender? Dennis
  14. "Jim, that is awesome! I've got to stop at the Borders book store tomorrow to pick up a copy. Congratulations" Be sure to check out the BIG sale at Circuit City on your way to Borders. Dennis

Hi David, welcome to the Group! Looks like you have a great start to the project. What are your plans for the Z? Keep us posted. Dennis

Welcome to the Group! Always good to see another '71 Z on the list. In 1971, I bought my Z after returning from SEA, including visits to RVN, too. Dennis

Let's try the trunk of this Bluebird... http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/nissan/auction-434127461.htm Dennis
  18. Just a guess....But if the volcanic rock scent removal method really worked, Hawaii would smell like nothing Dennis
  19. Welcome! Always nice to see another '71 added to the Group. Dennis
  20. Someday, I will learn to do a background check on a poster's Z before responding. Thanks for keping me honest. I keep forgetting that all Zs don't have carbs........:stupid: Dennis
  21. They will certainly make the Z more aerodynamic, but I doubt that you'll recoup your $70 investment from increased mileage any time soon. If you like the covers, buy them. Adjusting the carbs and gapping the spark plugs will probably be as effective for increasing MPG - and those only require time, not money. 2¢ Dennis

Welcome Ryan! Not sure what a MS1 is, but since it's at UCLA, it must be good. Let us know how the project goes. Dennis

Armature night? Methinks you're spending too much time with your car...... "In electrical engineering, an armature generally refers to one of the two principal electrical components of an electromechanical machine–generally in a motor or generator." Yes, I know what you meant...just poking a little end of year fun at you. Best wishes for a Happy and Prosperous New Year! Dennis

Easier if you lived in Nashville, more expensive and complicated if you plan to jet in to see the car and arrange transportation to port and shipping to Germany followed by trucking to Austria - or hiring an agent to accomplish all the transportation tasks and paperwork. Having shipped a couple cars to Austria, I speak from experience. On the other hand, if you like an adventure, power on. Let us know how it turns out. Dennis

Check with my friend Reinhard Funke in Krems. He deals primarily in Porsches, but has other sports cars and may be able to help you find or import a Z. His web site is: www.zum-FUNKE.com Tell him Dennis from California sent you. Dennis
