  1. Way to go Cliff! Thanks for sharing the cathartic moment. We could all use one once in a while. 😎
  2. Sounds like you're on the right road.....enjoy the ride.
  3. Sorry that the Google search didn't work as well for you as it did for me. Good luck with the project!
  4. Have you tried doing a Google search for the parts you need - like "Datsun 280Z brake booster gaskets"? That search will bring up quite a few sources.
  5. Nice find. That plug is an elusive piece. I used to run fog lights on mine, but above and slightly behind the bumper. Too easy to break no matter where mounted.
  6. Very nice interior! I wish my '71 was that clean and tidy. Does the red button on the center console activate the fog lights?
  7. Or maybe open that bar somewhere high in the mountains on the edge of a precipice overlooking a beautiful valley and call it....wait for it...Cliff's. BTW, welcome to the group, Bluez. Nice looking green Z. How's the interior?
  8. Based solely on his astute observation earlier in this topic which parsed screen name and accompanying photo, a promotion to Major Obvious may be appropriate. 😎
  9. After almost 2,000 entries on this topic, and while I haven't read them all, I don't recall seeing any stating anything like, "How could I have been so wrong. Thanks (insert screen name here) for opening my eyes to the truth about COVID." I doubt that many, if any, minds have been changed. I have however seen temper flares, false sense of superiority, and a little bullying. I'm in favor of ending this topic and maybe moving on to politics, religion, and global warming discussions if we really need diversions from the only reason everyone signed on to this forum - The Z.
  10. My son's company announced today that they're extending their "work from home" program until January 10, 2022 at which time they'll reevaluate to determine a possible date to return to the office. He was hired in March 2020 just as Google was deciding everyone would work remotely. He's never met his boss or coworkers in person and only gone to the office once about a month ago just to see what it was like. Interestingly, Google offers employees gifts, classes, days off, and other incentives to keep employees from going stir crazy.
  11. Sixty hour work week covering the hours the Post Office is typically open and one day off? If his day off is Sunday, it may be a while before you get the lug key.
  12. My April 1971 240Z had only the 2 non folding wheel chocks, jack, jack handle pieces, lug wrench, and stow bag when I bought it as a new car. It also came with a small Nissan labeled can of matching paint in the storage bins. It did not include open end wrenches or spare lug nuts. Does the parts book list wheel change kit contents and spares that were included on delivery?
  13. Looks like you're getting closer to searching for a replacement "in the style of" your dad's original rather than finding the actual car. The good news is that you could find a similar Z, tell your dad it's his original, and based on the lack of old pictures and a VIN no one could prove you wrong. All good!
  14. I paid over sticker price in 1971 when I bought my Z to avoid a several month waiting list. Seemed like a good idea at the time. The $4,200 I spent in 1971 is equal to $28,311, give or take, in 2021. I had been living out of the country for a year and a half, the $4.200 represented well over six months of my military pay, and I needed a car. I could not have guessed that I'd still be driving the car 50 years later. Not sure if the new Z will stir the soul like the original, but if I was 24 I'd give it a try. Life's an adventure, enjoy the ride!
  15. If I was 24 again, I'd be standing in line, checkbook in hand. However, at my current age, I think it would be easier to get out of Afghanistan than it would be to get out of the driver's seat of the new Z. I'll stick with my '71. 😎
  16. Success! No rear bumper over riders?
  17. A project dear to my heart as I'm doing the same with my '71. No adhesive required. I think if you loosen nuts on the mounting studs on the rubber pieces just a bit, you'll find that there is a little "slop" in how the studs fit through the mounting holes in the bumpers and over riders. That gives wiggle room to adjust the fit and remove the gap between trim and bumper before tightening the nuts on the studs. My front bumper was easy and the rear is a nightmare. The mounting studs on the trim are rusted and I have to use a hacksaw between the trim and bumper face to cut the mounting studs.
  18. Maybe a parking permit sticker for someone who makes sandwiches at a New Delhi deli? 😎
  19. If you have an Android phone, download the Google Lens app and take a picture of the decal. The app will then show you several similar designs as well as the one you have. I found the same decal in red listed as available at the website buyer.jp if you need a spare. Technology and boredom on a hot day have no bounds.😎
  20. This 240Z is proof that there is a "witness protection" program for old rusty cars that enables them to assume new identities in a new location and with a whole new back story. As Fox Mulder used to say on the X-Files, "Trust no one".
  21. Seems to have undergone quite a metamorphosis since 2014. Even the sunroof appears to have self healed. As described on Craigslist 2014 and EBAY 2021: 2014: Body/Underside heavily rusted. Would need Floor Pans, Left Rocker, Engine Frame Rails, etc, etc. 2021: RUST FREE Classic Z car has been been well preserved and maintained.
  22. To bring closure to the "rusted nuts" on the bumper saga, here's what happened. I took the rear bumper to a machine shop. Who better to resolve the issue than professionals who work with corroded metal every day? They kept it for several days, soaked it in a combination of acetone and ATF, added a little heat, and eventually got the rusted nuts off of the 50 year old bumper and over rider without breaking either of the threaded mounting studs. All good, I just need to clean it up and install the new rubber strips on the over riders and the bumper ends. A weekend project if the temperature stays below the 122ΒΊ level it hit earlier in the week. Thanks to all who offered suggestions!
  23. I think the governor and his crew will be phased out long before gasoline engines in California. Here's what the plan calls for: California Air Resources Board will develop regulations to mandate that 100 percent of in-state sales of new passenger cars and trucks are zero-emission by 2035 – a target which would achieve more than a 35 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and an 80 percent improvement in oxides of nitrogen emissions from cars statewide. In addition, the Air Resources Board will develop regulations to mandate that all operations of medium- and heavy-duty vehicles shall be 100 percent zero emission by 2045 where feasible, with the mandate going into effect by 2035 for drayage trucks. To ensure needed infrastructure to support zero-emission vehicles, the order requires state agencies, in partnership with the private sector, to accelerate deployment of affordable fueling and charging options. It also requires support of new and used zero-emission vehicle markets to provide broad accessibility to zero-emission vehicles for all Californians. The executive order will not prevent Californians from owning gasoline-powered cars or selling them on the used car market.
  24. That sounds like a better plan than buying it "sight unseen based on 1 photo sent to me by the owner." as mentioned earlier. Are you familiar with early Zs and know all the possible problem areas to check when you see it?
  25. Quite dust free for a "garage find". Why am I skeptical?
