  1. here are all the pics. sorry bout that. Just look at the name and it will tell you what ur looking at.
  2. Well, i just got back from talking to the guy, he has changed his price to 4K!!!! I took some pics of the car and here they are only of the actual pieces here and there, as the car's body itself is in perfect condition. all the chrome poieces have no dents and are shining! Now here are some of the problems I notice. . . 1) When in park the car runs perfect, as soon as i put it in any gear I get a LOUD whining noise. Sounds like it is coming from the dash or somewhere next to the shifter.(it an automatic) As soon as i put it in neutral or park the noise goes away. I'm sure this is an electrical noise so what do you guys think? Bad ground, or something? 2) From a stop if i press the gas hard i hear a thump of some sort in the back of the car. Sounds like the Diff or something is moving? I looked under the car and the diff isn't in the best condition, but if i hit on the gas while driving, the car won't make the noise it just picks up and goes. 3) I think i may need to replace a few springs in the throttle system, becuase i opened the hood and cranked the level for the throttle and let it go but it got stuck at 3500 rpms! I jumped into the car and blipped the throttle and it dropped back down to around 850-900. Any advice on that? 4) There seems to be a little rust here and there under the car, but from what it looks like that's it! I didn't take any door panels off or the rear hatch pastic stuff, but i pulled up the caperting and the sound deading stuff and it looked like everything was perfect. Allthough the driver side under rail has a dent in it that looks like a mechanic tried lifting the car up from it. I took a picture. Well, that's it. here are the pics. . . Here is something i didn't know, I saw it and asked the owner and he told me that the red little switch gives more gas to the carbs when switch down.( i didn't know how to test this, but maybe someone here could give me a way?) Dash.jpg Here is the bend in the driver side rail i was talking about. Is it bad enough to warrant a weld on new rail? Here is the cracks in the dash up on top where the gauges are. All the gauges work fine, and the needle stayed right in the center for the temp the entire time after it warmed up. This was the WORST rust that i could see on the entire car!!! It was taken from the driver side wheel well. Don't know what it really is from this angel, but hope one of you can shed some light. Here are the tears in the driver side seat. These are the only tears on the entire interior, and was wondering if they could be fixed? And an idea of how much$$? Here is another shot of the driver side rail in the far back of the car. doesn't look bad enough to warrant a re-weld, but i'm no specialist. Any ideas? And here's another shot of the driver side rail at the front. Now this car has only had 1 original owner, and on the odo. only has 36739 as the reading. The car was, like i said in my first post, storaged for over 19 years in CA. I asked him if they ever got a undercarrage spray after pulling it out of storage and he said no. The car has EVERYTHING original on it. The only thing that has been worked on is the engine. The shocks are a little old but still work fine, and it has the original radio along with working antenna. So, what do you guys think? Do you think I should pay the extra 1K and fork up the 4K he's asking? Or do you think it isn't worth the money? I need opinions! Please get back to me asap, as i am anxious to buy the car. He has actually offered me only 700 down, and at least 500 a month, but must be paid off within 6 months. So, what do you think? Let me know
  3. You guys all give good words of wisdom. I have been trying to contact a person who actually lives in OC, just like me, but he is very . . . well . . . not talkative. Everyone on here is much more helpful, and i wish someone was around in my area. I know a little about cars, and I learn VERY fast when someone has the time to spread the word onto me. But, I've search quiet a lot, but found very few who live in Orange,CA. 280z1975, I have been to your site and read up on everything you have done, FANTASTIC MY FRIEND!!! I wish I had the know-how that you have. I'm only 22 and still learning, but I hope to someday be on the same level as some of you. I want to be able to rely on myself rather then a mechanic at a shop, becuz i trust myself. I have purchased the video from Ztherapy and will be watching over and over. Does it have anything on how to weld/fix rusted metal? Ktm, I've been floating around that site for many days now! Its a wealth of information. But for some odd reason, not a lot of in depth information. Its more opinions that anything else. (especially when it comes to the SR in the 240z) But, there has been some good ones i will say that. I just got in touch with Adrien over at Vildini Motorsports in Mission Viejo and the price of the labor isn't too bad. I'm a little strapped for cash, but i think i can handle it. I am lucky enough that i already have the engine, FMIC, tuners, and so forth already in another car. They are willing to take both cars pull the engines, do the wireing and so forth. I will keep you guys posted on the progress of the cars. Hopefully, this will all turn out for the best. FairladyZ, When you mean check the floorboards, do you mean under the car or actually under the lining inside the car? Can this be done without tearing the car apart? Seeing as I am picking up the car on Tuesday. (Also, I'm paying 3K for the car, one dent on the side about the size of a dime, 2 rust spots on the entire car, and then also the dash is has 3 cracks, all of which are on top of the 3 gages. The engine has been rebuilt and brand new shocks, struts, and springs all around.) Beandip, It seems that i am going to ditch the L24 for the Sr when the time comes. I think i will drive the L24 around for a little while here and there until i can save up enough $$ to do the swap out and so forth. Do you have any ideas as to what kind of $$ i can get for the L24 with a fully rebuilt engine and carbs? (I know the 73 carbs suck, but they have been completely rebuilt) A ballpark figure would be nice, i know it won't be much but anything will help! Once again you guys thanx for the help and words of wisdom. I will keep you all updated on what's going on. U are very helpful, i just wish one of you would actually be located in Orange,CA or around me. Hell i'll drive anywhere in a 100 miles to talk with someone in person about this car! I LOVE IT!
  4. I have been reading up and what amazes me is i found that the SR20det is actually a good swap into the 240z. And, what's more. . . I have a 240sx with a SR20 fully built that i could drop into her. But, like you were saying 71ZZZZZ, the body of the 240Z can't handle that kind of power without reinforcement. Do you know what main points of the body need to be reinforced? And, what the costs of doing such a thing will be? I will DEF. be at the West Coast Nationals, I live not even 15 min away from Anaheim! Beandip, What kind of power could i expect to get out of a rebuilt L24 with 72 Carbs, some new cams, P&P head, and some new pistons? I really just want to make this car a nice Daily Driver, and have the ability to take her to the track and have some fun around the corners. With the weight being soo low, i could deal with less Hp and Tq.
  5. Thanx for the help, will be sure to do everything i can. I'm looking forward to this!!!
  6. Hey guys, Excuse me for anything i may ask that may sound stupid, I'm just starting out with my 1973 240z. I have never had a car this old, and want to make sure this thing is strucurly (sp?) solid! I have been reading here day and night relentlessly for the past 3 days! I have read tons of guides and so forth, but I still have 2 questions. The first and formost is of course the body. I have been reading up on rusting and so forth, and where to look for it, but as to how to fix it . . I'm at a loss. I have NO welding skills (never tried or had anyone to show me) and I want to make sure that i don't miss anything. From what i have notice, there seems to be only a little rust on the rear fender well, and a tiny bit on the pillar that extends on the lower part of the middle of the car. I was hoping to find a few members that live near me (Orange,CA) and get their opinon on what i should do. Maybe a few beers for your time will ease the mind? Second, the engine has recently (within the last year) been rebuilt and has maintained the original 73 Carbs, and well I want her to have some power. I'm not looking for insaine power, but i would like to have around 230-270 hp and a nice amount of TQ. Is the original L24 capable of doing such power with mods, or would i be better off swapping in the L28 or a diff engine for that matter? (I know the Diff, axles, driveshaft, etc must all be upgraded as i move the power up, but i am just wondering about the engine right now.) Wow, sorry for such a long post I'm just sooo excited about my 240z!! I got the biggest smile! I hope to learn a lot from everyone here, and will contribute as much as possible when i do feel I am getting the hang of things. -Matt
  7. Hello fellow Zians! I have been in love with cars for a long time, and have owned , now, about 6 cars. I have recently purchased a 1973 240z with only 1 owner!! It had been staring at me for the past 2 years now everytime i passed it on my way home, only 1/4 mile from my house!!! I kept saying, it must be an old guys car, and there's no way he would let her go. But, one day about 5 days ago I sucked it up and left a note on his windshield asking if he was interested in selling the car to someone who would take care of it and bring it back to life. I got a call 3 days later and went down and talked to him. He told me the cars life story. . . . ." His father and mother had purchased the car back in their day from the dealership, and drove it only 3 days or so a week. After many years his father started to get sick, so the car was garaged away in CA. Over the next 19 yearws it had not been drivin, or moved an inch. Until they found out that his father was near his end. So, he did what any son would do, he took it to a Z mechanic and had the entire engine rebuilt and put all new shocks, springs, etc on it and made it drivable for one last drive. After taking his father out, during the drive he asked if he would give the car to his son and keep it going. So, when his son was old enough to drive it was given to him as a gift, and the son, being he was a sports enthusiast didn't like how small it was. So, onmce again it was garaged!! Then, his father died and he has 3 kids now, so he has no room to store the car anymore. That's where i come in!!! So, I looked over the car, talked with him and decided that i wanted to buy it and now. . . I own her!! I am thrilled that i can have this car, and i am dieing to make this thing race ready!! So, hopefully with your help and my enthusiasm, this baby will be ready in time!!!
