  1. Why would the original steering column vs aftermarket make a difference in handling?
  2. Out of curiosity, what exactly would be considered "low?"
  3. Now that's awesome. I couldn't agree more. Subtle mods are great, and compliment the Z. However, the Z is beautiful from the factory, and does not NEED any body mods. 90% of flares, 90% of airdams, Ferrari or Daytona replicas, etc. all ruin the Z, IMO.I noticed the amount of thought you put into each your modifications, and the amount of effort that has gone into keeping it quite stock looking, and it has clearly paid off. It reminds me a bit of the light green Z Garage 240z with the RB25 - looks pretty stock, but performs like a modern car. Which reminds me, is that I think my favorite thing about your car is the fact it's the original color. Seems like no one ever does that, which is a shame, since the 240Zs came in some great colors. I could go on, but I really need to get back to my school work. If I am ever in a position to build my dream Z though, it will probably end up a lot like yours. And of course - congrats on owning your dream car! Enjoy it.
  4. Voted for the things that would basically assume the car has had a serious hit at some point, or has serious rust. Also, if the PO did enough hack jobs to basically double the work that would have been needed initially, that will do it to. That said, I want to sell my shell, and get an original, complete, straight (structurally) and rust free (or very close) shell. I'm not sure if anyone would want to restore my car, since it's really not THAT rusty, but it's more than I want to deal with. I just wanna drive something already. I am also a perfectionist, and my car won't be "perfect" without a ton of work (and $$$$$).
  5. Another NJ'er checking in! That's a really nice 240z, given the location. I wish mine looked anything like that... Instead, it is pretty much a typical east coast car with rust, that I am contemplating selling for something more solid. I'm in Burlington County, BTW.
  6. Stumbled upon this. Description is poor, but the pics look promising IMO. I'd look into buying it personally if I had the money or space, but I don't. Thought I'd pass it along. http://fresno.craigslist.org/cto/1681707018.html
  7. It is a series 1 car, I'm almost positive. The same person has the vented hatch for sale. I'll ask and make sure.I need the fuse box anyhow, mine doesn't have one. Only thing left from the original harness is the bit going to the tail lights. Confirmed - it IS a series 1 car.
  8. Bump! I found a 1/71 series one harness for sale. Does anyone know if this will be compatible with my car (12/70)? Also, value? Thanks.
  9. That's all correct by my count. Don't think there was anything else.
  10. I have #17955. It's not registered or on the road, or running. But it is safe and sound in my garage, although in need of restoration - it has it's fair share of rust, sadly.
  11. He had a thread about it on HybridZ, and pretty much confirmed it is a series one with later hatch and badges.
  12. That's a really nice color. Looks great!
  13. PM Tony D. I'm pretty sure he knows something about that car.
  14. Old post, I know, but my 240Z is #17955 build date 12/70. Not far off!
  15. My bad, I meant series 3, said series 2... go figure. Don't know why that was in my head... anyway. The reason I'm reluctant is because when I stripped my 280Z, taking that piece out was, for me, pretty difficult. Maybe it's easier on a 240Z? I did notice there are some small changes between the two in the sheet metal back there. Although I can think of how I'd get it back in, I can't imagine it that it's easy. I'll take your advice though and not mix/match different year harnesses trying to make them fit. On the note of trashing another harness... I decided I probably shouldn't use my good, unmolested (I think) '72 harness, since I would need to hook up the Crane ignition that came with the car, and I'm assuming that means snipping wires. I'll do my best to make the Painless kit work, since for my application I think it would be the best choice between the two. Thanks for taking the time to reply. Much appreciated.
  16. Thanks again for that wealth of info! I've got just a few more questions. What is the difference between the early/late series 1, and series 2 harnesses? Is it the connectors? I think I read something about a single pin/double pin difference - don't know if that's correct or what it means since I don't know much electrical work. Is it possible that I could replace the connector on my harness such that it would fit my series 2 harness? Like I said, the car is neither complete or original - the original engine is long gone, as is the dash, and a few of the gauges, among other things. I don't mind if doesn't fit the correct series 1 gauges, or anything you can think of. I have the ENTIRE series 2 harness from an 11/71 or 12/71 (I forget) 240z. Body, engine, dash harness, even the dash and gauges. But again... I am dreading replacing that rear piece. I suppose I could just leave it there and run the new harness in a more accessible way. I think I might try that if I can't get this Painless harness to work. In the mean time I think I'll keep my eye out for a late series 1 harness.
  17. Thanks for the info! For now, I think I'm going to just try to make the harness work. It doesn't need to do much, just operate my lights, signals, gauges, and engine. The car is neither complete or original. I was REALLY hoping to avoid having to take out the old harness that goes through the quarter, and that piece of the roof, since that was an absolute pain just to take out. I will let you know if I decide to buy your harness, especially if it would just plug into my remaining harness without any fuss. Do you know what months it was that will fit my car? It's a 12/70, FWIW.
  18. I bought a 1971 Series 1 240Z that had an electrical fire in the past and has had most of the wiring replaced. The only original left is that which goes to the rear of the car, and the over head light. The new wiring is very confusing so I want to just buy another harness. From what years can I use the wiring harness from? I have one from a '72, and I found one on craigslist from a '71, although I don't know if it was from a series 1 or series 2. Can anyone point tell me what year/series I need to get a wiring harness from to just have it plug and play?
