Engine swap into 260z
Sounds like an L28ET to me! Should be a fun project, I'll make sure I follow your website. I'm in no hurry to start working on the motor myself, still caught up in the bodywork phase and getting nowhere fast. Glad I pulled her apart though, any longer and the rust would have become a serious issue.

The Fast and The Furious
This movie and it's sequel have a lot to answer for. It has had a noticeable effect on the young blokes in my area! I found this out last night when I went down to my local shops late last night. On the way there I was driving down a narrow back street when some *%$#wit passed me on his motorbike. Not unusual being overtaken by a bike in my 4X4, but this guy did it front wheel in the air and engine screaming. He must of been doing 170 km/h to my 50. Anyway he scared the crap out of me but I pressed on to the shops and found about 60 cars parked in the carpark and young blokes milling about in large numbers. Mostly commodores, 180SXs, hondas, skylines and old seventies muscle cars. I must have been early because they were still comparing shiny bits and had not got around to street racing yet. I guess there has always been a street racing sub-culture in my town but I have never seen them in such large numbers in such a public location. Is it just me or has anyone lese noticed this?

Engine swap into 260z
Hey James, where did your obtain your L28ET from? Or are you modifying a NA L28E into a turbo? Just weighing up the options myself - with my 260 sitting in the garage with an empty engine bay it is very tempting to look at other options apart from putting the L26 back in there.

Started fuel cell install...
Hehehe, that was the first thing I thought when I saw "fuel cell". Looks good Rick, love to see a photo of the car after the installation.

A Pleasant Suprise, and Confirmation of What Previous Owner Stands for
:D :D Classic mate. Hope you weren't flogging it too much on the highway in 4th before you found it. Reminds me of my wife's challenger, we bought it from a yard and drove it for month when we found it had a six stacker CD player under the passenger seat.

Black... or gold?
Go for gold mate! FWIW I'm also not a big fan of those dark wheels, something about the lack of contrast between the tires and the wheels. When I have seen them on the street they remind me of something out of Mad Max.

Automatic or Manual
I'd second the comments by alfadog. My Z has the old 3 speed auto and I can tell you that it is not a performance component. Very slow off the line and you won't win many of the traffic light take offs. At the time I bought it it was the best 2 seater I could find. It will be converted to manual during the staged rebuild I'm doing.

Manafold questions.
My wild guess would be that the manifold came off an old Toyota Crown. One of the "sports" models came with twin SUs on a straight 6. The motor had a crossflow head which seems to match your manifolds appearance.

I'm a newb, but I have an opportunity to buy one...
It sounds like the car is pretty run down and will almost certainly have more rust in it than you would think. If the seller says he is not sure if it runs then it probably won't and is likely to have been sitting there for a while. Based on your post my advice would be to give it a miss. In my experience the 2+2 is not really collectable compared to the 2 seater, and in this case there would be a significant amount of work/cash to get it looking, and running, nice again. note - I'm based in Australia where less desirable 2+2s outnumber coupes 3 to 1. Someone from the US would have a better idea of the collectability of a 2+2 out you way. So what do you want a Z for: Daily driving? Project car?

Rear hatch with lots of bondo
This tailgate was covered with a liberal coating of bondo. The panel would warp slightly when you closed the hatch leaving large cracks in the bondo layer. Not sure if I will attempt to fix this myself, might be one for the professionals.

Point of no return
Just got the engine out. Now need to strip back paint, weld holes then get stuck into it with POR-15.

Ford XY tear drops (mirrors)
Ivan : I think my side mirror looked like that picture about 20 years ago, now it has gone an ugly pitted dark grey colour because all the chrome has come off. Must have been cheapies! Anyway I have been looking for replacement mirrors from recent cars for a while now, the type that attach to the door panel and not the window frame. Here is my picks so far: Late model Mitsubishi Magna : bit big Misubishi FTO : very similar to the Magna Mazda MX-5 : great except the early models Mazda RX-7 : The first series have pretty good seventies style mirrors, the rest are good too. Honda S2000 : Great but probably expensive BMW Z3 : Great but probably expensive Daewoo Matiz : Jury is still out on these ones Honda Legend : OK but big and rare Hyundai Grandeur : Look OK Toyota Supra (last model) : Great but probably expensive Thats most of the ones out there at the moment I think.

My New Z
Mate, if I had a car like that I would be ranting too. Damn impressive. What has it got in the way of brakes?
