  1. Ron, I'm looking forward to meeting you at the Dinner. I used your restoration photos in part for my inspiration on my #3 BRE Tribute Z. This should be a fun event and a great way to kick off the 40th Anniversary Year of the Z. Cheers, Dana Boudreault

Allan, Welcome! How about posting a picture or two if all those Z's are in the same garage?

  14. Hi everyone, My name is Dana Boudreault (pronounced "Boodrow") and I'm the VP of the Carolina Z Club in Charlotte NC. I don't post here much but I lurk around reading the advice of people like Carl Beck and drooling over Ron Carter's Z and Roadster pics and vids, and I really enjoy the rest of the community here on this "Gentleman's" Z forum! Anyway, I'm going to The Mitty for the first time this year! I have never been to Road Atlanta or the Mitty, so I'm wondering if you guys could give a rookie any pointers? I'm bringing my 280Z, and I'm almost finished with it's restoration (but will be by then), and it's a BRE Tribute Z. I've been working on this resto-mod for just over 3 years now. I have decided to change the front spoiler which will require a repaint. I'd like to meet as many of you on this Forum as I can while I'm there. It's nice to place a face to the avitars on these forums, and meet people who's knowledge has helped me through my project. So if you see my BRE (Blue) #30 car there please stop by and say Hi. Cheers! -Dana PS: Here's a couple pics:

These are a couple I have found. These guys don't have pictures up yet, but you can call and get description: http://www.datsunstore.com/index.php/cPath/1_105 These guys have pictures: http://www.datsunrestore.com/catalog.html I believe they are both pre-cut, but are not press molded to fit the depressions in the door panel without working it with plenty of adhesive. It's funny you posted this because I was just looking for replacement vinyl today.
  16. Looks better than new! That Z is going to be a celebrity wherever it goes!

Fordlover, Here's a great website, especially for the fuel injected S30's: http://www.atlanticz.ca/component/option,com_wrapper/Itemid,30/ CLICK ON "NEW TO Z?", in the center of the page. the Z Tech Tips is by far the most comprehensive, useful, easily read, small volume that had kept my 280Z driving down the road! Scroll down 2/3, and take a really good look at the section labelled Tune the Car If you follow this step by step, you will surely find the solution to what's ailing your Z. Personally, because you say it dies when you step on the throttle, I would lean towards a vacuum leak. Half of this system is based on vacuum, and there are a lot of vacuum lines. If your 75 has a vacuum water **** on the inside of the firewall right up next to the heater core on the passenger side, you should ckeck those lines...they are probably craked because nobody even thinks of them. Secondly, really check the Z Tech Tips for AFM and TPS systems. Bad throttle response can sometimes mean someone messed with the TPS or AFM. A lean condition usually backfires through the AFM. You can hear it pop when you step on the throttle. Leaking vacuum lines usually cause a lean condition in these cars. How do your plugs look? You can tell a lot from what the plugs are saying to you. Hope this helps, let us know what you found.
  19. WOW, your picture looks much different than the photo of the product on Motorsport's website. I like your write-up, especially since I have been considering it to purchase. I have to wait for my engine to be in the car to see if the custom intake will not be in the way. One question: Did you tap and thread the bolts into the firewall, or just use nuts?
  20. Hi everyone, Does anyone here have a catch can for their L series crankcase? How did you reduce the ridiculous 1-inch diameter pipe coming out of the block down to the small fittings on most racing catch cans? Did you start with a hose and use a series of pipe reducers until you had the size to fit your can? Any pictures??

Oh, I forgot to tell you.... When I was at the bodyshop fitting the seats, they had my friend's 240Z there that just happened to have Sparcos in them. They put them in my car for a fitment test and....plopped right in as if they were made for the Z!! I don't know which model they were, but I know Sparco seats are at least triple the price of Corbeau seats. So, I guess what I saved in the price of the seat, I am paying for the metal fab work to make them fit! It's a cruel world!

When I bought my seats, I found a Corbeau dealer near where I live, 3SX Performance. Their website is 3sx.com, and they are having a sale on shipping or something right now. I checked the price on their website for the TRS that you are looking for and it is $40 cheaper per seat. When I ordered the seats, they had Corbeau drop ship them straight to my door (since nobody actually stocks racing seats). I was happy with the service and price from the guys at 3SX, but you can do your own search for the cheapest price. On a side note, I saw the Mitsubishi they own that currently holds the World Record in it's class for front-wheel drive 1/4 mile drag. Pretty cool. IMPORTANT: I bought the CR-1 seats, which look similar dimentionally to the ones you are looking at, that are going in my '76. I bought the brackets from Corbeau that are supposed to be for 75/76 280Zs. Not only do the brackets not bolt in directly, but they sit a couple inches high on the metal floorpan Datsun seat frames. With this added height combined with the thick padding on my CR-1s, it didn't fit properly! First, it was too high to sit in with a helmet. Second, the bulge in the transmission tunnel on the driver's side stopped the seat from mounting where it should in relation to the steering rack (and also didn't get the shoulder bolster out of the way of the door), so be very careful! I am commited to making these fit, so I am having the tunnel bulge cut out and the metal frames on the floorpan cut down to bring the seat into alignment that it will need to be. I used my old sliding brackets from my OEM seats because they didn't add so much height when placed on the floorpan framework. Sooo, if your seats don't give you as much trouble as mine did, I have the brackets from Corbeau that have never been used and I will sell them to you cheap if you need them. BTW, Motorsport's price on these brackets are also much higher than the price from 3SX. ( I'm not trying to diss M.A.-I've spent thousands with them, I just know you are looking for the best possible price) But I will beat both, since I already have them and have had them much too long to return for a refund. Hope this info helps.

I would honestly check a junkyard. I've kept my eye out for those things all during my restoration and never came across any sold as new. I wish I had an extra lying around for ya.

Have you tried an autoparts store....they may offer rebuilt ones?? I found some aftermarket Mallory distributors with the vacuum advance, but they were pricey- over $500 (Black Dragon, page 44 online). There must be someone here who has done a restoration recently and tackled the same problem. Have you tried the guys at ZParts.com in AZ? Some of these parts are getting very hard to find new, especially with rubber components.
