so I'm planning to get an S30 Z! 240 or 280?
A 240 will always go for more than a 280 in terms of classic status. If you're taking prestige into account, I would say a 240 has a hair more because it was the first Z. If your not thinking along the lines of prestige and which "classic" to own, the 280 is an excellent car.......and like others have already mentioned, it will be more affordable. I've owned mine for 10 years with no regrets. ......However I would love to get my hands on an orange 72. Someday (sigh)

Update On Accident
Hehe...Thanks! It almost came to that right before they decided to comply. The only thing that I will be losing is the rear bumper overrrider. The used bumper I'm installing is the regular type. However, my car was not originally equipped with the overrider bar anyway. I added in the bar after I bought her years ago. So, in essence she'll go back to her very original looking bumpers. This will be the 3rd rear bumper on that car. Too bad I didn't keep the first one.

Good experience with BlackDragon.
Wow, great customer service is a dying thing. That's awesome. Thing that I've noticed about Black Dragon is that they are sometimes not as knowlegable as say, Motorsport Auto. However, sometimes I THINK they have lower prices on some of their items.

Update On Accident
Thanks! They tried to pull a fast one until I threatened to sue with a deadline. I tell ya, it's hardball or nothing. Believe me, I LOVE the 240 bumpers but.......

Update On Accident
Hi guys and gal. Not sure if anyone recalls, but a few months ago I was rear ended. Well, after months and months of urging the other party to cooperate, I finally got my claim settled, and I'll have a replacement bumper very soon! To make a long story short, I had to be very persistent in hounding these people to fix my car. My own insurance wouldn't cover it (Amendments to my own coverage soon to follow). After threatening to sue the other party in red ink, they finally complied with the investigation. I recieved a check for the damages rather than taking it to their shop. That way I can by a used bumper from Sunrise Z, install it myself, and keep the rest of the money. I've done the installation before on these bumpers. Anyway, I'm very happy. And not to mention that there is ONE good thing about those 280 crash bumpers. It saved my whole rear end.

Is this Z worth $45,000
if I had truly unlimited funds I might sponsor a proper WORLD convention of S30-series Z cars - to take place in Japan, and with all market models and variants present and correct with their owners. That would be fun. Alan T. Yeah, that would be nice if I had the funds to ship my car and meet it in Japan. When I uncle from Japan visited a few years ago, he was intrigued by my 280Z, since that was an American market car. He owned a Skyline. God rest his soul.

Classic 1970 Z, some rust, needs TLC
Not too low, but still a first year nonetheless. Is this one being documented in any sort of register?

Classic 1970 Z, some rust, needs TLC
Yeah, what was the vin? Just wondering how early of a production model met the end of the road this way.

Classic 1970 Z, some rust, needs TLC
What a shame. Since it's a 70' model, do you know the vin#?

Is this Z worth $45,000
So how many Gold Medallion Z's are out there? Does it only apply to the 240?
-
Is this Z worth $45,000
Wow. Where and when would someone be able to be honored with this award? West Coast Nationals, or something like that? What's the criteria?
-
Where ya from
PASADENA, CA......just outside of Los Angeles, and 20 minutes from Hollywood. Needless to say, MANY Z's out here. However, the good looking ones are hard to find. Think I'll go to the beach now.

Is this Z worth $45,000
The primary circumstance would the the existance of the opportunity to purchase a Z with a publicly documented history, or a Gold Medallion winner or close equavalent. Those cars don't come up often, and I am sure Carl knows of buyers waiting when they do. Will Ahh. I see. Ummm....What's a Gold Medallion winner? Is that a car that won best in show?

Is this Z worth $45,000
Hmmm.....I didn't know that he was partial to those entities. Very cool. So, what sort of circumstances in an "off the radar" sale would permit a Z to sell for more than 25K? Don't mean to be a pain. I'm rather curious, as this is amazing news to me.
-
Should I keep it? It's the car in my avatar.
-133,000 Miles? Wow, that's nothing these days. I've got 300,000 miles and she runs strong on an un-rebuilt engine. -78......Great year. I don't care what anyone says. -new paint? That'll save you a lot of money and time. I waited 5 months for mine to be painted. -Unplug the EGR valve. That's what I've done to both of my Z's. Runs better without that smog crap. Owning a Z becomes a lifestyle. Have a little faith. "Treat her like a lady, and she'll always get you home." Andy

ZXT wheels
...$^!#! Now I feel my wheels were served to me on a silver platter! Damn. Funny thing is, I rememeber thinking that I was making an upgrade on my suspension back then. "Yeah, I've got 15" wheels from a ZX, baby!" was my initial feeling. Truth is 15" is nothing these days. I only will hold onto them now because they're rare and very cool looking.

Is this Z worth $45,000
Alright, thanks for the very specific insight. I will not argue that the above listed Z's are worth more. However, I am curious; What auctions, listings, and such have actually had Z's sell for that much? What's your source? I cruise the internet and various other places scoping out Z's for sale, just to see their values continue rising. I love that. But, I have never seen a Z sell for more than $25K. Now, I will give you the benefit of the doubt that Mr. K's car, or some vintage racer could rake in a lot more than your average 240. As for the rest that you cited, I am interested to know when this has actually occured.

ZXT wheels
Yeah, based on what I paid for them back then, I guess I wanted them badly! In LA, I can't imagine they're as rare as somewhere a bit more rural. Then again, I didn't shell out $45K on a modified 73 240.

My Beloved 78
Ideally the Le Bra product would've been my choice too. Unfortunately it just didn't seem to not work out. One of the metal grommets chipped my paint, so after that I said, "Screw that!" I got my money back. But, maybe I just wasn't careful enough. Since mine is a one piece, I can still easily loosen the top portion for hood access. A slight pain, but not too bad considering. Glad your has been working out, sincerely.

My Beloved 78
Oh, sorry I didn't address that. the bra came with the cut-out.

My Beloved 78
Thank you! The first bra didn't quite work out (Le Bra). This one I got at Motorsport Auto. Easy to install. The "Datsun" patch was my ex's idea.

Is this Z worth $45,000
..Right on. In my opinion, if you make changes to your Z, let it at least be tasteful. A lot of money doesn't equal "good taste". Then again, beauty is in the .......you know the rest.
